Positive Protective Factors

Each of has protective factors that help us when we are put in situations or face challenges that require us to look within ourselves to move forward. Each of us faces challenges, however it is during these challenges that we need to step back and use our wise mind rather than our emotional mind to be able to problem solve with the ability to decide how we are going to move forward. It may be that we need to ask for help, seek assistance and guidance or rely on ourselves. By completing the reading and exercises within this book I was reminded of what my strengths are and the positive protective factors that I rely on. Many of the exercises were designed for us take a personal inventory of ourselves and to highlight our protective factors and strengths. We are smarter, intuitive and have the ability to be perspective if we are able to listen and trust ourselves. We all have the ability to bounce back, using life skills and strategies that we have tested and proven successful for us in previous situations. …show more content…

My results for caring and support indicated that I am not always nurturing to myself (self-care) I recognize this and continue to work on taking the time to step away from the many commitments I have to do something for myself. While assessing my high expectations I once again realize that I do not give myself enough positive messages about accomplishing my goals and overcoming adversity. With my schedule as impacted as it is I do not volunteer to help others or belong to a group in my community, opportunity for meaningful participation. The category pro-social bonds did make me realize how much I have forgone in order to homework, classes, work etc. as I am not involved in positive hobbies or activities nor do I participate in any type of groups. It made me feel sad to recognize how isolated I have become due to my commitment to my
