Many students tend to dread attending classes. As a result, the attitude of students is at times very relaxed when completing assignments. Teachers can assess whether students complete assignments through a variety of ways. But the most effective way is by assigning a pop quiz. Pop quizzes are most effective for a variety of reasons. For one, it is a fair assessment. Every student is instructed to study and acquire an understanding of all the material. A student that takes advantage of his or her time will often succeed on the quiz. However, those that spend less time will most likely fail. This promotes one to stay on task and focus when given new material. But more importantly, every student is given an equal opportunity to make sure he or she is well prepared. …show more content…

Because most teachers assign tests two weeks after the material is give, students will never quite know if they truly have grasped the information. So, by giving pop quizzes, students can gage where he or she is at in terms of understanding the material. If he or she does well, then the student can focus on the weaker areas. And if a student did poorly on the quiz, then they know that more time should be spent towards learning the information. By having a quiz, a student can correct his or her mistakes now before they fail a major test or exam. Pop quizzes are a great motivator for students. For example, a student is performing very low in a certain class. Then a teacher assigns a pop quiz. And after a pop quiz, the student finds out he did well on the test. He or she will be quite proud of the result and will then be motivated to continue learning and studying. This motivation for studying will lead to better results on major exams.
