Has Art changed over the millenniums? When we analyze music, clothing styles and cultural behaviors over the last century we see trends that reappear in today’s society. Clothing styles of the 80’s made a comeback 20 years later among the teenage youth. Music styles of the 50’s are recreated adding new rhymes and rhythms to the iconic songs admired by generations before us. When we analyze art history we see similarities in the style, approach and their influences in the art world. We find that just like other trends art styles reappear in later art periods. Most common people were hard working farm labors providing for the families. War was abundant and medicine was scarce. The art of this era reflects the hard lives people endured. For the common folks this lifestyle reflected their hardships throughout life. The emotionless faces, over masculine bodies reflected people’s struggles they went through just to survive. Pop art is an art movement that started in Europe mid 1950’s. This style of art quickly caught on and migrated to the US and other cultures worldwide. Pop art took fine art to a whole new level. Pop art incorporated imagery from pop culture, advertisements, news and current affairs. This type of art is unrestricted from government, religion or other influences and used as a way to express rebellion. Pop art can be characterized as bright and quirky colors that stand out and grab the viewer’s attention. It is a form of art that can take the most ordinary objects and bring them to life by adding colors and distortion. Pop art focuses on the contours, shapes and basics of the picture. Pop art with its over the edge appeal was used in marketing, protest and way to make a statement know. One the most famous artist of pop culture is an artist named Andy Warhol. Pop art was used in a way to grab the attention of the viewers and to make political statements. War influenced artist to paint protest media such as over the edge political smear campaigns. The mass media influenced by popular opinion used pop art to depict social economic issues such as hunger, poverty and disease. During this era 1st amendment and civil rights were being challenged and pop art was used to push the limits of people’s rights in censorship and government control. Although the style of Middle Age art and Pop art can be different they have many similarities. Both periods were influenced by the social conditions of their time. Middle Ages art was influenced by religion, which was the main governing body of that time. Pop art was influenced by governmental control, censorship. What is different about these similarities is the Middle Age art was depicting religion as a positive influence and most Pop art showed government as a negative
