The pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) has been highly praised favorite table fruit from the ancient time. The potential nutritional, medicinal values and pleasant flavor with sweet acidic taste have been gain consumer appeal globally. That indicates the great scope for the industrial processing in to value added product, which is scarce in the India. The major problems faced by the processing industries are that the pomegranate fruits are available only for a short period (February to March). Heavy turnover of produce creates glut in the markets and the growers are bound to sell their produce at a non-remunerative price. It clearly brings out that the commercialization of pomegranate variety will be determined by its ability to provide stable processed and viable product of high value. The fruit beverages production has been become an important commercial at industrial scale after 1930 (Makwana et al., 2006). The …show more content…
(2012a) investigated effects of different pomegranate juice extraction methods on quality and stability of pomegranate juice were evaluated. A Hand press method, mechanical extraction using screw type hand juicer and electrically operated fruit juicer and machine extraction using electrically operated hydraulic basket press methods were used for extraction from manually separated arils of pomegranate fruit cv. Bhagwa. An extracted juice was analyzed for physicochemical and sensorial parameters like juice recovery, specific gravity, pH, TSS, acidity, sugars, phenols, anthocyanins, antioxidant activity, colour, flavour, taste and overall acceptability. Microbial limit tests were also carried out. Screw type hand fruit juicer with fiber molded crusher gave highest per cent juice recovery on fruit and aril weight basis. It also recorded maximum anthocyanin content (85.815mg/100 g) and sugars (16.818 per cent) in juice. Highest overall acceptability score (8.607) with low microbial population (7.95 x 103 cfu/ml) was observed with this
The Brazilian acai berry has been a food staple for low income families for years and a cultural symbol for generations. This berry is vital in Brazil, where it is farmed and, until recently had a relatively small market. However, after an Oprah interview the demand for acai has become an international affair. The rising demand has created a free market; however the once inexpensive food staple has become too expensive for the low income families. This report will analyse the current markets advantages and disadvantages, followed by two possible government intervention models. The examined interventions will be export tariff and price ceiling.
“Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday conveys the inhumane, gory lynchings of African-Americans in the American South, and how this highly unnatural act had entrenched itself into the society and culture of the South, almost as if it were an agricultural crop. Although the song did not originate from Holiday, her first performance of it in 1939 in New York City and successive recording of the song became highly popular for their emotional power (“Strange fruit,” 2017). The lyrics in the song highlight the contrast between the natural beauty and apparent sophistication of the agricultural South with the brutal violence of lynchings. Holiday communicates these rather disturbing lyrics through a peculiarly serene vocal delivery, accompanied by a hymn-like
If you bought a smoothie recently you may have been shocked at the price. Jamba Juice is a well-known smoothie chain, and it strives in promoting a healthy living style. When you bought this smoothie you maybe thought you were paying for the health benefits or quality. But that isn’t true, you were paying for the product and materials that went into serving that smoothie. Jamba Juice was simple back in 2008, only serving smoothies, but began a strategic move to transform. Consumers wanted more than something they can drink, they wanted food too. Jamba’s mission to transform began and the prices changed with it. By 2014, Jamba Juice began serving fresh juices, whole food smoothies, nutritional smoothies and food items (“Jamba Juice,” n.d.). But why did smoothie prices have to change? Well, many factors contribute to the cause.

The Odwalla Juice Company was founded back in 1980 when three friends Greg Steltenpohl, Gerry Percy and Bonnie Bassett started squeezing fresh oranges on a hand juicer. It did not take long for the people of Santa Cruz to start talking about the fresh taste of Odwalla. The company established tremendous brand loyalty and profits were rising 30% per year. Before they knew it, the company that the three friends had built from home was worth more than 90 million dollars (Baker, 1998). The Odwalla juice buzz spread quickly around the increasingly health concious market because of they unique acid based rinsing technique they used. The majority of other companies used a pasteurization method which the Odwalla team argued that pasturization “affected the taste of the juice and was unncecessary” (Melvin, 2011, Pg. 656).

The freshly squeezed citrus juices of Lemon, lime and orange were analysed through titration over the period of 2 weeks. Initially the lime juice was found to be slightly more acidic than the other juices followed by lemon juice and then orange juice since it is known that usually lime is more acidic than lemon and orange. It was hypothesised that the acidity of each juice will increase or decrease after the period of two weeks depending upon the sugar content of that citrus fruit that the juice is extracted from. The acidity of the juice with the highest sugar level will gradually increase over the period of time since sugar contribute to the the fermentation of the citrus juice to lactic acid. The hypothesis was shown to be correct;however

Tariq Ali uniquely puts into perspective the horrific tragedies behind the Spanish reconquest in his work, Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree, by capturing the history in the perspective of a Muslim family who lived in a village just outside of recently conquered Granada. He does this in order to expose the cruelty and intolerance of the Archbishop Xemenes de Cineros. Ali also uncovers the faults in not only Christianity, but also in Islamic ideology by having many character’s from the family Banu Hudayl debating and questioning Islamic beliefs which may parallel with the author’s own beliefs, or lack thereof. (Tariq) One of Ali’s strongest focuses however, was to expose the lack of urgency many Muslims felt after the fall of Granada. Many Muslim’s
