Composers of humorous texts draw inspiration from the context of humorous texts as a purpose to educate and entertain an audience. “Politically Correct Snow White”, an extract from “Politically Correct Bedtime Stories” composed by James Finn Garner, draws inspiration from the texts context as a purpose to entertain the audience. In contrast, comedy skit, “iRack” an extract from comedy spoof show “Madtv”, draws influence from the texts context to educate the desired audience about that particular period of time. Therefore, “Politically correct Snow white” compares to iRack as Snow white is more of an entertaining text while iRack is more of an informative text, although they both draw inspiration from their context. Composed in 1994, Gardner parodies and satires the, then, issue of gender identity and relations through body image, feminism and male masculinity. Female body image expectations are satirised in the text as the narrator refers to snow white as “not unpleasant to look at.”He is clearly avoiding the words beautiful, attractive and good looking as it potentially be objectifying the princess, relating back to the body expectations of 1994. By not objectifying the princess, Gardner is being politically correct while also satirizing being politically correct, creating humour. Furthermore, Feminism and feminist beliefs are being parodied in the text as women being referred to as “women” and “Womyn”. Gardner uses the pun and play on spelling to create humour as well as being politically correct as a woman didn’t need a man and therefore doesn't need the word man in their pronoun. Furthermore, male masculinity has also been parodied to create humor and to entertain the audience. This is explored through the “prince's impotence”. The dwarfs making fun of the prince imply that men have to masculine and show their masculinity, which was a great issue in 1994. Politically correct Snow white is more of an entertaining text where the entertainment is inspired by the text’s 1994 context. One issue that is brought to light in a humorous way is gender identity, in particular, male masculinity. Male masculinity is explored through the dwarfs having a retreat for men who, “need to get in touch with their primitive masculine identities.” Humor is conveyed through this as it is ironic that “vertically challenged” men are conducting a masculine retreat. In contrast, comedy skit iRack is more of a informative text where inspiration is also drawn from the context. In the early 21st century the Us started getting involved in Iran, which is being satirised in the skit as well as also informing the audience. At the conclusion of the skit where the iRack is broken, the announcer moves onto the Iran. This sterilised the bad decisions that the Us made in Iraq and now they are moving onto Iran, also informing the audience on the US’ mistakes.
