INTRODUCTION
Poliomyelitis also called polio is a sever virus infectious disease it is a major cause of infantile paralysis it can be transmitted person to person orally By its name in the Greek language it is associated with the gray matter of the spinal cord
This virus cause inflammation of the gray matter of the spinal cord this infection in some cases can extend up to the brainstem. Polio enters the body through the mouth, infecting the first cells which come in contact with it
Poliomyelitis sometimes has numerous symptoms if it enters the blood. When the virus enters the central nervous system it destroys and infects motor neurons which will cause weakness of muscle, abnormal growth of limbs, muscle paralysis acute flaccid paralysis.
The cause of this infectious disease polio virus was discovered in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner. Polio had been in existence for many years in certain areas, the United States and Europe experienced polio in the 19th century, and the vaccine for this polio infection was developed in 1950, the introduction of the polio vaccine has seen the dramatic drop of polio cases per year from many hundreds of thousands. Effective effort by the World Health Organization and UNICEF would have resulted in the total eradication of this infectious viral disease polio, but in 2013 there were report by the World Health Organization of new cases in Syria. There are still some challenges faced by different Global Organization in the fight to control and eradicate polio. Public swimming pools were closed down as precaution against polio infection

Proper awareness programs, Political stability and security and Adequate supply of vaccine to endemic regions Migrants need to provide medical cards or medical reports stating they are free of the virus risk infection by the virus. Infected individuals should be quarantined and isolated.

Conclusion
The knowledge about this virus will help in the total prevention eradication of polio virus WHO has contributed in the eradication of polio in the western countries and are now combating to eradicate it in these endemic areas if proper cooperation is rendered by the government and people of endemic areas it will help in the fight to eradicate this viral infection
