Not Up for Debate: The Science Behind Vaccination
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
Many people come to the United States of America in order to live freely and make choices based on their personal morals. Considering the fact that America is known for being the “land of the free”, people should be able to choose whether or not they want to get vaccinated. People should have the right to reject vaccinations for whatever reason it may be, whether it’s religious beliefs, health concerns, or lack of belief in the vaccination systems. Personally, Vaccinations have benefited me and my health, and I choose to get vaccinated. I choose to get vaccinated because I strongly believe in a way it helps build my immune system and keeps me from getting sick or catching diseases. However, people have different beliefs than mine. Therefore
Just like prescription drugs, vaccines can be a harmful risk. For example, the small pox vaccine that is recommended by government health officials carries a risk for complications like inflammation of the brain which can lead to damage of the brain or even death. People who believe we should have mandatory vaccinations will say that vaccines have saved many lives, and though its true vaccines have also caused many serious and sometimes fatal side effects. There are also many cases where many parents strongly believe that some vaccines may have caused autism in their children. The reason being that many parents noticed shortly after their child was vaccinated they noticed symptoms like loss of language abilities and they were suddenly stopped interacting with people. Also, the vaccines used to treat measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) are linked to many autism cases. Vaccines that contain thimerosal, which is an organic compound that contains mercury, has also been suspected to cause autism in children. Thimerosal has been removed from most vaccines because of its linkage to autism. Scientist believe that MMR vaccines trigger a regressive form of autism, because the measles virus in the vaccine embeds itself in the intestine, causing some kind of reaction in the brain. Mercury, a chemical element, is used in a lot of vaccines can be very dangerous. High levels of
Some religions object vaccines because of the ethical dilemma of using human tissue cells to make vaccines. For example, the Catholic Church understands the importance of vaccines and the protection of individual health, but they believe members should find an alternative other than vaccines. Catholics generally rely on prayer for vaccines and believe that medical inventions such as vaccines are irrelevant. Catholic religion as well as Mormonism are both against abortion which means they are against vaccines that use human cells derived from aborted fetuses. Religions like Christianity believe that our body is like a temple that houses the holy spirt and we should not pollute it with vaccines. For example, a vaccine is a manmade invention used to alter our immune system to protect us from disease, and the immune system is a gift from God that protects our body from diseases. So when we trust in vaccines in which are made by humans we are saying that God didn’t make us right and so we need to correct him. By doing that we are questioning God and that is against Christianity. Another religion that has historically been against vaccines is Jehovah Witnesses, because they believe the human body is sacred and whatever kind of disease you have is a gift from God and you should not contaminate your body with other human/
The article “People Should Not Be Allowed to Refuse Vaccination” focuses on the dangers people who choose not to vaccinate are opening to others. The argument stems from the ease with which disease can spread through an unvaccinated community and the threat this poses to those who cannot vaccinate. Because of this danger the author of the article believes vaccination should not be left to choice, but required for the good of public safety.
The simple injections have potential to save thousands of lives every year and they are making the world a safer place. Vaccines can help create an environment where children are not receptive to disease which would have taken lives in previous decades, and for the general population to be healthy, and to keep children safe from illness and disease people should vaccinate themselves. Throughout my research for vaccinations, I didn’t realize the many stances parents could support. I knew previously before researching that many parents didn’t agree with the idea of giving their child a vaccination that could possible cause an issue that wasn’t present before. Although, I always supported vaccinations strictly because of scientific facts; when I read about the many reasons why parents didn’t it was a shock and ultimately overwhelmingly disappointing. Mainly, because it seems like parents are only looking at the few effects vaccinations could have on a child. Overall, I believe that everyone should be vaccinated, not only to help themselves but to help the public from outbreaks that can easily occur if the anti-vaccination movement continues and makes
Doctor Andrew Wakefield had written a paper in Lancet journal in 1998 which suggested that MMR vaccine causes autism. In his research, he found out that MMR vaccine was responsible for bowel inflammation that leads to the translocation of non-permeable peptides into the bloodstream. (American Academy of Pediatrics) This in turn carries them to the brain causing the root of autism spectrum disorder to form. His research was called weak by drug corporations, governments and media companies and was then discredited earning him a fraud reputation. His paper has since raised a decade long argument on MMR vaccine originating autism spectrum disorder. This has caused a lot of parents to withdraw their children from being vaccinated, which increased measles infections.
Vaccines should be put in children when are born to prevent any diseases when they are
Vaccines have been around for hundreds of years now, allowing humans to increase life expectancy tremendously. Vaccines have been a great contribution to today’s science and human health, but vaccines have also brought fourth numerous concerns for many parents. One of the most controversial debates that society is currently facing is whether there is link between vaccines and autism. To distinguish if there is a link between vaccines and autism a closer look must be taken within the research of both. A vaccine is an injected or orally administered substance that contains live(attenuated) or killed pathogens to activate the production of antibodies in the body to produce immunity against a disease or different types of diseases. (Red) Vaccines are composed of different molecules and ingredients, one of them being Thimerosal, an organic mercury compound. (blue) The use of Thimerosal in vaccines have associated the link between vaccines and autism. Autism or Autism Spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological development disorder that can affect an individual’s behavior, communications and social skills. (green)
Although many people get vaccines when they are very young, it is important that everyone makes sure that they are up-to-date on all of their vaccines whether they are teens or adults. According to the CDC it is never too late to get vaccinated, whether you missed a vaccine or did not get all of the required booster shots. Vaccine preventable diseases have not gone away even though many do not infect the large numbers of people that they once did. It is important to make sure that you are protected against these diseases as some can make you very sick or even kill you. It is also important that you do not spread illnesses to your friends and family.
According to The Health Wyze Report, there is an undeniable connection between autism and vaccinations in addition to many others, such as Guillain Barré syndrome, which is permanent paralysis. T Anti-Vaccine Scientific Support Arsenal states, “Andrew Wakefield’s colleague who co-authored the MMR study that linked the MMR vaccine to autism, has been exonerated and his studies have been confirmed (“Vaccines DO Cause Autism-Undeniable Scientific Proof”). Vaccines are supposed to protect people from diseases, but nearly all vaccines lose their effectiveness over time. Sometimes, people become infected by vaccines because of the live viral strands used. They end up getting the exact disease they were seeking protection from. The chances of catching some of these diseases we are vaccinated for are remote and the side effects from the vaccines are so common that it does more damage than good to our bodies. Regardless of whether or not you agree or disagree with vaccines, there are side effects. The CDC lists the mild, moderate, and severe side effects of each vaccine. Although rare, sometimes people have adverse effects. For example, the mild risks from the DTaP vaccine include fever, vomiting, soreness/tenderness/redness/swelling where the shot was given, and swelling of the entire arm or leg where the shot was given. Moderate and uncommon problems include seizure, nonstop crying, and high fever.
Now, one vaccine in particular worries the anti-vaccers; the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella). The reason they think it is bad is because of its high mercury content, caus...
By relinquishing the right of adults to choose whether they get vaccinated or not, the government is devaluing the individual, in essence, the government is putting the collective ahead of the group, this concept is a key foundation in democratic centralism, better known as Communism. Individual rights was a huge basis on the foundation of the US(US Constitution), denying the rights of the individuals to chooses whether they get or not, breaks this foundation(Darrell). Requiring vaccination also brings many issues into play, such as making the time to take all the vaccinations, and many vaccinations can’t be taken all at once, and this results in them breaking their normal schedule. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, a former ophthalmologist, agrees while vaccines are a wondrous thing, but freedom should not be compromised in the sake of universal vaccination(Rand
I Believe that all vaccinations should not be mandatory in the US. I think people deserve the chance to decide what is best for them. Whether it be personal, religious, or health reasons I believe that parents should be able to educate themselves and choose what would be best for their child. While many people agree that vaccinations should be mandatory, there are many reasons as to why they aren't necessary anymore and risks they could present if taken. For example, more deadly diseases have already almost fulling disappeared, less than 50 cases and 10 deaths from tetanus were reported between 1994 and 2011, effecting only a small percentage of the millions of people in the US.
Vaccines. As of Feb. 1, 2009, over 5,500 cases alleging a causal relationship between vaccinations and autism have been filed under the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program in the United States Court of Federal Claims. Vaccines contain hazardous ingredients can cause brain inflammation, which can lead to disorders such as autism. “The vaccine additive thimerosal (found in most pre-1999 vaccines) has been associated specifically with the development of autism and is still found in certain meningococcal, tetanus, and flu vaccines such as the H1N1 vaccine” (Institute for Vaccine Safety, 2009, p. 1). Thimerosal is one of the many hazardous ingredients found in the flu vaccine and has been under public scrutiny for its linkage to autism. The additive contains mercury and when exposed to humans at high level can cause major health concerns including autism. Though the use of thimerosal has been eliminated in most vaccines it is still a prevalent ingredient in the flu vaccine, which people are urged to receive each year. The link to autism is growing stronger each time a child is vaccinated. To stop the influx of autistic children should gain immunity through natural process and not rely on vaccines to do the job the body does
Every vaccine requires multiple doses before showing immunity to the disease it’s trying to prevent. Many individuals worry that vaccines are “temporarily increasing antibodies for a particular disease, but does not equate to immunity to disease.” (Samuelson 4). About “1 million children have an allergic reaction” to a vaccine that can result in death. (ProsCons.org 4). In February 2017, scientists from Germany have tested many vaccines to see what substances were inside the “life-saving” medications. The German scientists found that “small amount of mercury” were found inside “mercury-free vaccine.” (Alber 16). Mercury is a heavy metal preservative found in vaccines that could affect the nervous system resulting in neurological impairment. Arsenic another dangerous substance found in vaccines was recognized by German scientists. (Alber 16). Arsenic is a poison that can give the body skin cancer, lung cancer, bladder cancer, and heart diseases. According to the CDC, most vaccines can have deadly side effects, for example, Rotavirus Vaccines was eliminated from the pharmacy in 1999 because of “life-threatening bowel obstruction or twisting of the bowel.” (Healthy Home Economist 32). Another vaccine with a life-threatening side effect is the flu shots which can result in the “small risk of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.” (CDC 43). Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a condition that makes the immune system attack the nervous system. Pneumococcal vaccine is linked to fevers that lead to seizures that can cause damage to the nervous system. (CDC 43). Is vaccination appropriate for anybody and
Parents deserve the right to choose to get their kids vaccinated or not. People are being forced against their will to have their children vaccinated with harmful substances that could potentially kill them (Cronin).
How would you feel if the right to choose to vaccinate your child was taken away? What if after the child received their vaccinations they contracted a serious illness or even died from the vaccinations? There are many cases that have shown adverse reactions in children who have had regular or mandatory vaccination series throughout their lives. Throughout our lives, we are introducing foreign particles and chemicals into our body by receiving the vaccinations that are mandated by our jobs or school. These vaccinations start from the time we are born and continue until the day that we die. Not only are we not allowing our body to build an immunity on it’s on, but we are also traumatizing our children by making them receive shots on a routine basis. There are many reasons that vaccinations should not be mandatory, but the most important are the number of vaccinations, ineffectiveness, and side effects.
A prevailing argument that pro-voluntaristic individuals frequently make is that vaccines have the potential to be harmful to individuals; a primary motive behind this pertains to an alleged correlation that exists between thimerosal, a component of vaccines, and countless disorders including autism (Benjamin, 2003). According to Barbara Loe Fisher, president of the National Vaccine Information Center, “When you take a look at the ever-increasing numbers of doses of vaccines babies have gotten over the past two decades and you see this corresponding rise in chronic disease and disability in our children, it is out of control” (Benjamin, 2003). Many speculated that the mercury contained within the thimerosal was to blame for this. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), thimerosal contains a form of mercury known as ethylmercury that quickly evacuates the body and cannot cause adverse reactions unless exposure involves abnormally large doses (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Nevertheless, a fair handful of United States citizens are medically unable to receive vaccines; for example, out of a billion people, nearly 250,000 possible vaccine reactions were documented
