SSMENT RESULTS In my English class, I am doing a research paper over what I am going to do for a job when I get older. During class we have taken a test called the Holland Code Test. The Holland Code Test tells you what areas you would be most comfortable in by what you like to do. From the results I have learned that I am good in the mechanical area of employment involving fixing and improving objects that are required for the occupation. The test said that I can be a police officer, mechanic of many different occupations, computer engineers, and other few miscellaneous occupations. The average hours would be 40 a week with 8 hours a day , but always being on call. As of the Department of Houston, the dress code is general or casual business attire, unless approved by the governing board(www.shmoop.com). SKILLS The skills required for being a police officer is the ability to use good judgement, problem solve, multi task, mental capacity for empathy and compassion, demonstrate courage, have and use responsibility, be resourceful and assertive, having integrity, and being able to collaborate and engage in teamwork with others. I have most of these skills already form prior occupations, but I need to build on these skills to improve them. Building them would be simple because I can volunteer at police stations to gain work experience, and to take related courses Discovering Policing (Matrix Group International, Inc.). EDUCATION For my career, I will need at least a high school diploma, although many police stations are requiring applicants to have at least a two year college coursework or an associate's degree. Also with federal jobs you would need at least a bachelor's degree (collegequest.com). For Texas is just about averaging $50,000 and for the nation it is just about $60,000. The entry level for a police officer is a about $50,000, mid-level is $53,000, and upper-level is about $57,000. With this it is about a $6,000 raise the longer that I am in the profession. CAREER OUTLOOK The career outlook for it will be average to the previous years mainly because it will grow with the population and as employees retire people will be hired. Some statistics are that between 2013 and 2014 combined 176 people had Fatal injuries with the previous years had higher death rates. Also that between 2013 and 2014 combined 55,860 people had non-fatal injuries also being lower than previous years. The trends with it will come about with how they have to work and what equipment they have to use. REFLECTION With the first video about my career choice it was saying that i have to be alert to any threat to public safety, they also must have training to be able to balance their responsibilities. They must be calm and be able to think on their feet in life threatening situations and also be physically fit . While most are going to require a college degree to work there. The second video was about the skill of reaction, the ability to see how fast you are able to react. They test how fast you can react to situation.
