There were so many events that happened that a child should never have to experienced. Our whole neighborhood hated us merely for the fact that we were the only Hispanics in an all white neighborhood. The police that worked in that area were constantly invading our house without a warrant and trying their best to plant something on my uncle to get arrested. The worst time was one Christmas Eve where we were going to drive out to Los Angeles to visit family. One of my uncle's brought his dog and she ran onto my neighbor's lawn. Willie Velasquez, founder of the Southwest Voter Registration Project, was responsible for the growth of Latino voters in Texas that started many years ago. His commitment to politics influenced many people to use their voice by voting. Texas has a rough voting history because over the years numbers have decreased and increased. Intuitional theory it’s defined in different ways for instance, “Institutional theory addresses the central question of why all organizations in a field tend to look and act the same (DiMaggio & Powell, 1983).” This definition illustrates how organizations change their response to their institution based on the environment, and can achieve stability in their own. An organization when it comes to surviving tents to turns its focus outwardly in order, to acknowledge their influence constituencies and the value that they represent. Police agencies are ideals samples of an institutional organization, for the reason being that they have to display in their organizational performance and policy’s that they care about citizens concerns.
Police officers have a significant level of discretion when ethical decision making is incorporated in deciding how to respond to a domestic violence call. For example, officers exercise discretion by deciding how to respond to domestic violence when a situation involves a fellow officer. America is a country in which many believe in privacy within the household and often choose not to be involved in a domestic dispute because families should resolve their own problems. However, discretionary powers abused by an officer are used to dissuade the victim from filing charges against the officer’s colleague. Officers often do not choose to arrest in a domestic dispute because they believe the family, not the justice system, should resolve the problem. If the police officer abuses his discretionary power by persuading the victim to not file charges, then he is going against community policing. This is because, he is not serving the interests of the community, but rather the code of silence within a police department. This discretion is exercised even more when the domestic violence situation involves an off duty police officer. When police officers commit domestic violence against their spouse it is usually explained by the fact that police officers deal with difficult citizens on a daily basis on the streets and as a result of the high levels of stress on the job bring their frustrations home and spouse becomes the scapegoat for his feelings (Wetendorf, 1998:3).
The United States may have one of the strongest governments in the world, but every day someone special loses their life. It displays a weakness in our own government and if we want a promising future this has to change. A good step in that direction would be recognizing my policy memo. My policy memo is: Using Technology and Data to advance community policing. The focus of this policy is through funding; the government has recently funded making new technology for a better police force. This policy research memo will focus on the issue background, then the political environment, along with a policy analysis. Lastly, I will discuss my own options and recommendations on how I would implement the policy.
In my opinion, the many different views of police culture can vary in many different situations. I say this because of the many different views this can be misleading at times. I think what's needed is reform of a police culture that has often infected relations between police and blacks, destabilized respect for cops and the law, and set the basis for the many deaths. The overall image of the police offers is an overview of the public’s perception of the police in reality. Without the public’s view of this police culture wouldn’t have the look it has now. Mexican-Americans are finally gaining representation in city government, representing the 9.6 million Mexican residents of Los Angeles. In any given setting, police officers are responsible for maintaining order within a, sometimes overly chaotic, society. They are given the responsibility of acting as protectors of the defenseless and upholding justice, at the risk of injury to themselves or even the loss of their own life. In addition, it is inevitable that an officer will eventually come into physical contact with an individual, who may be volatile or avoiding arrest, which nonetheless increases the odds of a physical confrontation. The distressing truth is that, although being assaulted is not a requirement of their profession, it is essentially unavoidable.
