Let us say one has a choice, now in this choice one can decide to stay with their people/ home, or one can be kidnapped and forced to marry someone. In Disney’s movie Pocahontas has a choice, but in reality she was taken from her family. Additionally, the movie is romanticised, but again, in reality she was forced away from her home. All in all, Disney’s representation of Pocahontas is wrong in almost every aspect and has some little stabs at both sides, mostly towards the Powhatans. Disney’s version of Pocahontas is not responsible, respectful, and accurate because the age is way different in reality. So why create an image that is wrong for the audience it is focused towards? To begin, why would Disney create a romance out of something the complete opposite? Pocahontas’ real name is Matoaka, according to “Chief Crazy Horse.” Pocahontas means “naughty one” and the name was given to her by the English. In April of 1614 a man named John Rolfe forced her to marry him as a condition of release (Chief Crazy Horse). In the prime of the empire the British is a force to be reckoned with. The English would fight for resources and controlled a great population who was not even British; navies equal power, and a strong navy the British have. Most believe that John Smith made up the natives being hostile to have the military be sent to conquer more land and resources. John Smith and the Monarchs could gain a lot of money, reputation, and valuables for simply saying the natives took a hostile action towards John Smith and Jamestown; when in reality, the natives wanted to help.
