Many people wonder how some people are so good at basketball? The most obvious answer to that question is practice, practice, practice. When a person decides in their mind that they want to take up basketball, they have to get ready to put in all the work that comes along with it. There are drills, workouts, and equipment that can and will help people on their journey to learning and eventually mastering this sport.
Before people dive into the workouts and drills, they need to first familiarize themselves with the rules of basketball. This way they will know the correct way to play the game and will be on their way to being successful in the sport. When I decided that I had an interest in playing basketball, my dad advised me to read the rules

before I got on a court. He even quizzed me on them to make sure that I understood them. I didn’t like it at first, but now I appreciate him doing that for me. It was the reason I was able to play smarter and have more success. After I had learned the rules, it was time to move on to the court.
I started the actual physical phase with dribbling drills. First, I bounced the ball freely for a while just to get the feel of the ball. Then, I started the drills with between the legs dribbling thirty times. When I finished the between the legs drill, I began to bounce the ball with each hand for 25 times each. I would then get another ball and bounce two balls at a time for 25 times. The last ball handling drill I would do was my sprint dribble with cones drills. In this drill, I would run from the baseline to the half court line doing different dribble moves through the cones. I would turn around at half court and run back to the baseline again doing different moves through the …show more content…
cones. The next thing I worked on was my shooting. I would stand in front of the goal and work on my form by doing the same shot until I make 25 in a row. Once I completed that I would slowly work my way away from the goal. At each spot I would go too, I would use the same shot and take the same number of reps. I did that until I finished up behind the three point line. For the next drill, I would grab a chair and put it at the top of the key. Once I had the chair placed I began doing one dribble pull up jumpers. I did 20 reps on each side and aimed to get 20 consecutive makes. Since I shot for perfection in practice, the number of shots I made in games increased. This also increased my skill level and confidence. Finally, the last drills I did were focused on defense.
Defense is needed to stop the other person or team from getting any points. If the other person is able to score the ball, the chance of winning the game is decreased. Some drills that I used to increase my defensive abilities are suicides, boxing out, and denying the ball. Suicides are done to build endurance in order to keep up with the other teams. With suicides, I started on the baseline and ran from baseline to the free throw line and back, then from the free throw line to the half court line and back. The next drill was boxing out. These were done to prevent any opponent from getting a rebound and having a chance to score again. With this drill, a person puts a body on the defender and gets into a position where they are the only person with the chance of getting the rebound. Lastly, denying the ball is a drill done to prevent the other team from getting the ball in a favorable place to score. With this drill, you play the opponent a close as you can without fouling them. While doing that, it would be good to get in his face and in an area where it would make it hard for them to get the ball from a
teammate. Following all the steps and drills I have set out, should put any person in a great position to be successful. Like my dad always told me, “Victory loves preparation.” This basically means practicing these steps is the best way to be great in the wonderful sport of basketball.
So, in case you ever find yourself playing basketball, remember to use the correct form, have the proper stance, jump, and follow through. Now that you know all of the steps to shooting a basket all you have to do is put them together. Set your hands, feet, jump, and follow through. It might feel different at first, but the more you practice the more natural it will feel and the better you will
Basketball Rule #2 (pg.51) “(Random text from Dad) Hustle dig, grind push, run fast, change pivot, chase pull, aim shoot, work smart, live smarter, play hard, practice harder”, this correlates because at a practice a couple pages later his coach has them do sprints and he says, “The winner doesn’t have to practice today” He is in the lead and he says, “ I let him win and get ready to practice harder”
Practicing is the second major part of being on drill team. If you don’t practice you don’t look good at the performance. You practice more than you do anything else. We all know the saying practice makes perfect well this was one of my coach’s favorite sayings. I don’t care if it was twelve in the morning if we didn’t look good or as one we were going to keep practicing until we got the chorography correct and until we looked good as a team. Practicing and doing things over and over can sometimes become very
While the most important parts of being a baller can be debated for years and years. I believe all would agree that you have to be able to put the ball in the hoop. That is why I have spent most of my life learning how to shoot a basketball properly. The process is long and requires using muscles all over your body, but with determination and hard work you will become the best shooter you can be.
I play basketball, not only because it gives me a source of exercise, but it also allows me to be engaged in a competitive atmosphere again. To play basketball, you start knowing little and learn from your coach a lot more. It is important to learn how the game works from the different techniques of the game to the rules, goals, and communication that come with the game of basketball.
Willie Mays once said “In order to excel, you must be completely dedicated to your chosen sport. You must also be prepared to work hard and be willing to accept constructive criticism. Without one-hundred percent dedication, you won't be able to do this” In order to succeed it’s required to put everything on the line to survive in the world of sports. Without devoting to sports there is no correct path to success. Nobody will be on the level of competition. Dedication also comes into play where people will need to be better in other areas. Technique is another must have to be involved with sports. If its not possible to do something right then try over and over until it is. Speed is needed to be able to get place to place or to shoot a swift shot. Working out lower body will help with strength which comes back to dedication. Therefore, everything comes back to each other and helps be better, faster, harder, and stronger.
...e you a great shooter. Although I suffered injuries in my past basketball career which earned me a basketball scholarship to play collegiate basketball, I am now more knowledgeable about my position. This knowledge has helped me reflect on myself and my experiences as a player transitioning to a coach. I believe it is important that I educate my players and teach them proper mechanics but also mental set. Acknowledge that the jump shot is more than a motion of physical ability and talent, it takes a great amount of thinking and implying the information you already know to what you learned. All coaches throughout the country regardless of their level should have knowledge of biomechanics and require there staff to also know the following information. This allows the opportunity for kids to learn the correct technique, prevent injuries, and transform them as a player.
Why they need to know the basics of basketball is because of their age they are young and probably have never played before and starting at the very basics is the best thing a coach can do for them which is teamwork. Teamwork is something only the coach can introduce to kids before they start games and positions because without teamwork how can you pass the ball or even play the game there is no I in team as they always have said to kids. “ In order for inexperienced team players to understand teamwork, the philosophy behind it should be explained to them logically as well as shown to them what teamwork is like actually
The most important part of the game of basketball is shooting the basketball, after all the object of the game is to put the basketball through the basket. A shot is taken by a player pushing on the ball and launching it toward the basket and upon the ball hitting the rim or backboard physics refers to this action as a contact force. Using this concept of contact force a shot can be calculated exactly. From a player’s height, the mass of the ball and a given position on the court which would include the distance from the basket it is possible to calculate the exact angle and force the shooter must apply to make a basket every time he or she shoots the ball. Of course if it were this easy basketball would not be as fun to watch or play. The problem with hitting a shot every time with the calculated angle and force is that the ball would have to travel toward the basket with the exact angle and force calculated for that particular shot. What makes this difficult is that the muscles in our body would have to be controlled flawlessly to push the ball with the exact amount of force and to give the ball the exact angle that is needed every time a shot is taken...
What are the differences between basketball and soccer? Both are ball games and team sports, but they are different in some ways. There are three main differences between soccer and basketball. They are the way they use the ball, the number of players, and the positions.
I had always heard playing basketball at a high school level was always the first step in order to become a professional. Though I only played once throughout high school I was still interested in how one could become a professional at basketball. For my senior project I chose to research about it and found out many interesting things I didn’t know about it. My knowledge for basketball grew even more.
One marvelous option on improving the drills and fundamentals are personal basketball trainers. Sometimes called “Professional Trainers”, who usually are ex-NBA or WNBA who are highly skilled in the field of basketball and have mastered the game to help other players improve themselves. Every trainor starts with somewhere with the basketball player and that is drills to improve the player mentally and
...some drills that can be taught during practice, to improve an individual’s volleyball skills. Keeping in mind that the individuals participating in volleyball have the skill to perform new skills but only dependent on the ability of presentation. By performing the drill in a group then breaking it up into the key components (serve, dig, set and spike) the player will be able to have specific points to remember and not be overloaded with knowledge all at once. While the key points are highlighted to the players have them emulate an individual demonstrating a skill and assess each player individually with personal instruction.
Basketball is a running sport; a lot of action takes place. Between two teams they are to score the most points before the time runs out, and at the end whoever has the most scored baskets, wins the game. There is a lot more to just running up and down the court. Though there are rules that need to be followed and consequences that get paid in order for your team to win the game. If a team member is fouled, then the player is to shoot two free throws, and that’s exactly what they are, free shots to get you closer to your victory. IF you step on the line or the ball i...
The common lay-up is one of these, it can be on the left or right side of the basket. Not only that, but, you can take a reverse lay-up, meaning you go under the basket and throw the ball up backwards. As you get farther from the basket you will have to bend your knees more and put more force into shooting it. Calculating the amount of force needed is a very tough element when learning to shoot. Furthermore, different spots on the court are worth different points. For instance, behind the three-point line is three points, anywhere else is worth two points. The only exception to that is a free-throw and that is taken when you are fouled, these are worth only one
