Student ethics in the digital age have changed drastically from the ethics of past generations. Cheating and Plagiarism has affected this generation heavily because too many students depend on cheating for them to pass classes and achieve success throughout their schooling. The purpose of this paper is to show the cause and effects of cheating and plagiarism on students, give reasoning to behind why students cheat, and demonstrate the outcome of a whole cheating generation. Students cheat because it is too easy to pick up their phone and find the answers on the internet. Tommy Raskin in “Cheating Students” explains that 59% of students have admitted to cheating on a test because they felt it was the only way for them to pass it. Teachers need to teach the curriculum correctly so students understand the material and are able to feel like they at least have a chance to pass the test. Students also need to take some accountability and prepare better so they don’t get themselves stuck in that situation feeling that it is their only option. It gives the student a false sense of accomplishment. This is extremely bad because then the student will resort to this every single time they decide to do their homework or take an exam. After the student is in to this habit of feeling accomplished after cheating, the world will become very rough when they realize that once you are past your schooling cheating is not an option because you can’t just cheat yourself into a job.
