Plagiarism is in a since stealing. You are taught at a very young age that stealing is against the law and if something is not yours you should not take it without permission. Now, plagiarism is against the law because the person who plagiarizes stole information that of the person who sat down to do the research to make the work that available to you. Doing this is not honest and also a very young age we are all taught that we must be honest in order to be a productive person in society. Educators are teaching students not to plagiarize and in that same instant we should lead by example and not plagiarize. “In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud. This type of plagiarism is not as serious as outright plagiarizing however, some educators wants students to put in the work to create assignments that are specific to that class. This type of plagiarism is not illegal because the original author, who is yourself, has given permission for you to reuse the information that is associated with the work. This is still plagiarizing, but, there are many ways that a student cannot plagiarize or self plagiarize. Self-plagiarizing does not challenge the student further who may come up with a new way or approach to something that they did not see before. The very first thing that a student needs to know how to do to avoid plagiarism is to know how to correctly cite a piece of work that is not their own. Citing work gives credit to the original author and helps to make a student’s work more scholarly. When citing work that is not your own a student must use quotation marks. This shows that the student used an outside source to gather this information that is being presented in the paper. Citing information that is not your own helps to take away the copy right infringement.
