Plagiarism is in a since stealing. You are taught at a very young age that stealing is against the law and if something is not yours you should not take it without permission. Now, plagiarism is against the law because the person who plagiarizes stole information that of the person who sat down to do the research to make the work that available to you. Doing this is not honest and also a very young age we are all taught that we must be honest in order to be a productive person in society. This type of plagiarism is not as serious as outright plagiarizing however, some educators wants students to put in the work to create assignments that are specific to that class. This type of plagiarism is not illegal because the original author, who is yourself, has given permission for you to reuse the information that is associated with the work. This is still plagiarizing, but, there are many ways that a student cannot plagiarize or self plagiarize. Self-plagiarizing does not challenge the student further who may come up with a new way or approach to something that they did not see before. The very first thing that a student needs to know how to do to avoid plagiarism is to know how to correctly cite a piece of work that is not their own. Citing work gives credit to the original author and helps to make a student’s work more scholarly. When citing work that is not your own a student must use quotation marks. This shows that the student used an outside source to gather this information that is being presented in the paper. Citing information that is not your own helps to take away the copy right infringement. However, this defeats the whole purpose of school. If students are plagiarizing to get by, not only is there no creativity and originality, but it would not benefit them going on in the real world. It will not teach them how to use their brain to think critically on what they are doing. Depending on the severity of the plagiarism, consequences can vary. Some of these consequences could be getting kicked out of college, losing your position at a corporation or institution and possibly running into the risk of finding employment

While many students understand and comprehend the first clause of this definition, many encounter problems with the second part - the thoughts part. Many students in today's educational system are frequently unable to develop their own thoughts, opinions, and ideas relating to the subject matter that they are studying. However, when people at a university are educated according to the ways set forth by John Henry Newman in "The Idea of a University," their ability to create original concepts would be cultivated to the point, where they do not feel the need to plagiarize and cheat. Newman also states that in the end, the university will produce citizens that can give back to society (48). Jeffrey Hart makes a similar point in "How to Get a College Education." Therefore, according to both Newman and Hart, an honest person will be fashioned by the university. Since honesty does not breed cheating, should not cheating then be minimized? Plagiarism and its sister cheating are plagues on society that only serve to corrupt it. Nevertheless, the education given by a university can diminish and, perhaps, even eradicate the disease by instilling in students, a sense of honor, and implementing harsh penalties on those caught cheating or plagiarizing.
My first memory of plagiarism is from grade school. I can remember having to do book reports. The teacher would always say, "write this report using your own words, do not just copy out of the book". So what did we do, we used a combination of both. In grade school we didn’t realize the seriousness of plagiarism. For the most part we didn’t even really understand what the word meant. It was something the teacher talked about when she assigned essays or book reports.

So to answer the question, "is it worth plagiarizing?" The answer is no. Why would you want to take the risk of getting kicked out of college? You're paying for your education and you're going to let it all go because you didn't want to do the work on your own? That's pure laziness and it shows that you don't care.
The impact of plagiarism can be a self-destructive for a student. On the other hand, plagiarism may cause an instructor to feel betrayed and disrespected by a student.

In order to properly address a student who decide to turn in plagiarized assignment, a teacher must require that the student re does the assignment giving him or her a second chance. The artists from PPP point out that it is much more difficult for good work to breakthrough into popular culture because there is so much of it. Comparing the arguments by CAE with the ideas in PPP reveals that artists breaking through into popular culture has always been difficult, but it is difficult today for different reasons than it used to be. If you’re not able to get accepted into a college then how can you get a good career/profession? That small plagiarism that you did in high school could affect you and your life for a long time. You wouldn’t have thought that a small simple copy and paste would affect you that much but in reality it does, just because it’s not ethical. There are always consequences to unethical actions. Then there are also legal effects/consequences you will have to face because plagiarism isn’t legal, you could get into a lot of trouble and charges for fraud or copyright infringement.

Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement are two terms that mean different things yet are routinely mentioned as synonyms for each other. This is not the case. The underlying reasoning for people who choose to plagiarize and infringe on copyrights involve some of the same ethics and morals, but from a legal standpoint these terms mean different things. This paper will point out the similarities and differences between the two terms. It will first give some meaning and perspective behind each term then it will go into the details of what each term means. As teachers and adults, we are responsible for stopping this trend and educating students about the consequences and dangers of plagiarism. I believe there are a variety of reasons individuals plagiarize. First, students are insecure with their own ability; they don’t believe they can do the work therefore they take others. Second, students believe they can get away with the act because they know others who have plagiarized, and there were not any consequences. Lastly, students are uneducated on what plagiarism is and do not know the consequences of their actions if they commit an act. These ideas will be the focus of the position taken on plagiarism in today’s academic society.
