In couples relationships, we can face the problem of domestic abuse. A research made CONDUCTED BY by professors of psychology, Dr. Neil Jacobson and Dr. John Gottman, shows us that there aretwo types of battering partners,MEN the “Pitbull” and the “Cobra”. In this essay, I will describe the similarities and the differences between them.
Pit bulls and cobras can be alike in some ways. The pit bulls and the cobras both need to be in control of their relationship and both use fear and violence to achieve it. The two types of person we are facing also both had a traumatic childhood in someway (delinquency, witnessed domestic abuse) which can explain their mental problem.
Although pit bulls and cobras can seem to be pretty similar because they
both are battering partners, there are differences in their behaviours and methods. Pit bulls are jealous and constantly afraid of being betrayed by their partner, which means strong emotions take control of them and they’re not thinking and acting rationally anymore. Cobras, on the other hand, are cold and far more calculated, they don’t get trapped by their emotions. There is another difference, when pit bulls are using violence, it is more likely that they use their bare hands to hit or threaten their partner, instead of that the cobras often use weapons such as a knife or even a gun to threaten their partners. IN CONCLUSION, The Pit bull type and the Cobra type both use violence, but clearly don’t have the same psychological traits. One is more passionate while the other one has a more sociopathic pattern. We can learn from that that the psychological treatment will be different from one type to another and when their cases are treated by the police they also will have to take notice of the two different types in order to understand the case (and the suspect) in a more effective way.
Pit bull terriers have a long track record of attacks against people and animals. A 1987 study of a particularly savage attack against a child was documented by four doctors in the hopes...
The reason why Pit Bulls are aggressive is because it’s their nature and that’s the way they’re born. Everyone that is afraid of Pit Bulls says it’s the dog's fault and that it's their nature to fight and kill, but honestly it’s the owners fault for making them that way. “‘Though Pit Bulls have strong jaws and, like most dogs will hold onto their prey after biting it. There is no evidence that a Pit Bulls jaw are anatomically different from those of other breeds’”(Lallanilla). They are more likely than any other breeds to grab a hold of something and shake it. The reason why
Unfortunately in today's world we still hear about men who batter their women. These men, according to two psychology professors from the University of Washington, are divided into two different types: pit bulls and cobras. Pit bulls and cobras have both similar and different characteristics. The separation between those two types is important for the development of more effective treatment programs and the efforts of preventing domestic violence.
They can suddenly become killing machines and destroy everything including kill people. They even hurt their owners when they are unhappy. The dogs stand about 50cm high and weigh between 25kg to 40kg. If they want to hurt people, nothing can stop them. Steve Austin, who is elite dog trainer, said, “Anyone who has a pit bull would never admit it.” In April 26, 2014, the events is from the Daily Telegraph reported by Janet Fife-Yeomans. Pandelis Germanos, who has Caeser and another four pitbull-type dogs which is to prevent his house was got hurt from his Caesar and another four Pitbull-type dogs. When she tried to pull Caesar off her mother, she lost his two fingers. Another true event happened in 27 May, 2013, this events’ source is from The Daily Telegragh. Three vicious dogs savaged a man who is jogging. Due to a neighbours’ help, he did not die. Chris Thompson who was one of the people that fend off the dogs said that he had grabbed a pot plant and cracked it over one dog’s head and the shock made them disperse but then they came back and latched onto another person’s hand. A hard pot plant cannot cause any injury on the dog. Mr Keith Kirkpatrick, who is a Brisbane dog trainer and adviser to Brisbane City Council has said, “They’re not a good guard dog because when they bite they switch off. You can tap them on the head but there’s nobody home and their plan threshold is
The problems caused by domestic violence become more and more serious across the time. Compare with the incidents like car accidents and rape, there are more women getting hurt because of domestic violence. Many researches were carried out to understand men's domestic violence and some of the researchers suggested that the perpetrators of the domestic violence, abuse their partner due to their experience of rejection and shame. Thus, a rejection-abuse cycle existed (Brown, James, & Taylor, 2010). There are four steps in the cycle, which the sense of rejection of man make up a threat to self, leading to a defend against this threat and then results in abusive behaviour.
...ports Illustrated cover photo of a pit bull (Pit Bull Rescue Central, "Breed Information”). Dog fighting made a comeback during the 1980s and the pit bull became the favorite macho dog for dog fighters. The dogs were trained to kill or be killed. Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
Life is filled with many difficulties which affect us all in one way or another. However, we do not all face the same difficulties. If we are to survive we need to first understand what these difficulties or problems are, in order to learn how to deal with them. One such problem is, is domestic violence. It is necessary to determine whether the problem is personal one or due to society (social problems), so that the individuals involved can learn how to deal with their situation.
Ruff! The Pit Bull is a very misunderstood dog that many think is a ferocious killing machine. After researching, I have decided that Pit Bulls are superb pets. Also the media will say that the attack is from a Pit Bull when it is just mutt or some other kind of dog. They do this because it is what people expect to see. With this reputation Pit Bulls are banned in some counties.
The study found that the dogs possessed excellent social skills and the ability to communicate competently and to solve conflicts (132-137). These studies help to prove the group of breeds that fall into the pit bull classification do not have a genetic predisposition to violence and actually have a great temperament. The first study even shows that they have a better temperament than the average breed. It is the bad owners that give the pit bull a bad name.

The media’s attack on pit bulls started when drug dealers were chaining them up using them as a weapon against police. In the media Pit Bulls and portrayed as vicious dogs that attack owners, strangers, and children without warning. There are several other breeds that bite and attack, however you only hear about the pit bulls. For example if on day one a Lab mix bites a child you will see it in the newspaper the following day; day two when a Great Dane bites two adults you will see it on the news the next day; day three a Rottweiler attacks an elderly woman in her backyard and it is aired on all network stations; day four a Pit Bull Terrier bites a mailman and you will hear and see it on every station in the country. This is a good example
There are a lot of myths about pit bulls that are very common and people believe they are true, Is it true that pit bull’s have a locking jaw and can't let go once they bite? This statement is not true, pit bulls have the exact same anatomical features as other dogs. They do not have locking jaws.It is just simply not true.Humans believe that pit bulls bite or attack more than any other dog. Study shows that the most popular breeds at any given time tend to top the list because there are more of those dogs in the general population. Also the American veterinary medical association has found that no breed is more dangerous than any other dog breed. Pit bulls have a more powerful bite that any other dog breed. According to Dr.Brisbin “To the
Abuse has become so common that some people do not realize they are being abused. It is important that this topic is studied because there are many gaps of knowledge to what all an abusive relationship can entail. The goal is to help someone somewhere get out of an abusive relationship before its too late. Whether its emotional or physical abuse, neither is healthy for a person to maintain in. So seeking relationship advice from outside sources, such as popular press articles may be a usual for tool for people who are looking for insight as long as they know to check up on the research involved in the article. This paper will compare and contrast the findings from the article I have chosen to the scholarly research that has been conducted on abusive relationships.
As professional athletes remind us on a weekly basis, domestic violence is a social problem which continues to plague the nation. Through stricter law enforcement, improved hospital reporting techniques, and nationwide education and counseling, this problem can be reduced. Domestic violence has many different names such as, family violence, battering, wife beating, and domestic abuse. All these terms refer to the same thing, abuse by marital, common law, or a dating partner in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence is not limited to physical beating. It is any behavior that is intended to overpower and control another human being through the use of humiliation, fear, and physical or verbal assault. Domestic violence is a very important issue in today’s society because it has such a profound negative affect on the abused, mentally and physically. Verbal abuse can be just as damaging as physical abuse. Verbal abuse is words that attack or injure an individual’s self-image, which eventually shatters one’s self-esteem. In this paper, I will discuss the many kinds of abuses against women, the reasons why women stay in these relationships, and possible solutions to diminish or reduce the problems of domestic violence.
“One woman is beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds in the United States” (Stewart & Croudep, 1998-2012). Domestic violence can interfere with the husband-wife relationship because one spouse is always in constant fear of the other. This violence could vary from physical abuse to ps...
