Types of dogs:
There are a few breeds used in dog fighting. However, the most well-known breed is commonly and collectively referred to as "pit bulls". Pit bulls are not acknowledged by the American Kennel Club. Rather, ‘Pit Bulls' is an umbrella term which encompasses breeds that are acknowledged and registered with the aforementioned organisation. For example, it includes the Staffordshire bull terrier, the American Staffordshire terrier as well as the Bulldog.
The American bulldog and Presa Canario are both mistakenly referred to as pit bulls. Numerous dog breeds were developed in an effort to come up with the finest fighting machine - ;dogs with a huge and low stature who were bred to be brave and were also conditioned to get into

the ring and sometimes fight to the death. Professional dogfighters and breeders are very meticulous about the dogs pedigree. The fighting breeds referred to as "pit bulls" are normally a mixture of assorted breeds. Apart from their title, debatably, these dogs are among the most faithful and most ill-treated dogs.
Some dogs withdraw when they are worn out while these dogs have been bred specifically for combat, due to their ability to fight to the death. Usually, pit bulls are surprisingly loyal to humans. This particular feature has made them attractive to dogfighters. Possible reasons for their appeal are that they will not be violent towards humans and they will stay devoted. Additionally, they will also withstand neglect and extensive cruelty from their owners. "Super -breeds" such as Presa Canarious and Bullmastiffs are growing in popularity. They are a great deal larger than pit bulls. They were traditionally bred to be persistent guard dogs, if they are placed in incorrect hands it should be of immense concern. These dogs have been crossed with pit bulls to produce more vicious and outsized fighting dogs in various urban areas. Unfortunately, they do not share the placid behaviour towards humans like their pit bull counterparts. After they have been taught to be aggressive they can cause severe harm to humans as well as to other animals. Most of these dogs have been stolen or purposely bred. Fighting dogs …show more content…
are deprived of their five freedoms – they are often beaten, starved, antagonised or injected with steroids to amplify violence. Their lives are spent locked in undersized cages, chained up or in dirty surroundings. Those who lose their fights and those who do not show satisfactory fighting potential are left with their injuries to vend for themselves or they may be killed in the most vicious ways such as by strangulation, hanging or being beaten till they are deceased. Bait dogs: Dog fighting is against the law in most developed countries but that does not mean it does not take place illegally. Underground dog fighting is rife and persists despite the legalities in place. This may be because dog-fighting syndicates are lucrative, given the debateable ‘appeal' and ‘entertainment value' of the dog-fights. Russia, Pakistan and South Africa all commonly practice dog fighting regardless of it being banned. "Bait" animals are sometimes used to examine how violent a fighting dog is and to give them preparation prior to a fight.
Bait animals are typically: kittens, wild animals in captivity, stolen pets (Maltese poodles), rabbits or animals acquired from "free to good home" advertisements. The bait is savaged to death after being released to the fighting dog. The fighting dog does not get wounded because the bait animal has its teeth filed down or pulled, their nails removed and sometimes have their mouths taped shut so that the bait cannot protect itself. There is no way to be certain if a dog was used as bait unless you know the person's intentions. Grave injury, violent behaviour, and panic towards other dogs, scars and so on can be caused by several things other than bait. Giving authorization for a weaker, smaller dog to take on a bigger and stronger dog in a fight does not mean the small dog was used as bait. It is likely the person who authorized the fight actually thought the small dog could beat the larger dog. It is extremely doubtful that a neutered or spayed pet will end up fighting in the ring. For dog fighters, it is about money. Lots of money is made by breeding as well as selling the litters of champ fighters. It is illogical to use a small, weak dog to train another. They do not want to misuse the energy of their dog on anything that will not assist in making them the
best.
Pit bulls, the most dangerous dog to ever live. People like to train Pit Bulls to fight other dogs until they are either hurt or dead. The owners that train the dogs are usually the ones that make the dog turn out to be vicious and dangerous. “Each year, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized, approximately 40% of whom are Pit Bulls”(Moore). Pit Bulls don’t know better to understand which is right from wrong since they’re being raised up to fight and protect. Pit Bulls aren’t good family dogs due to the power of their strength and that they could attack at any moment.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), there is a “great deal of confusion associated with the label ‘Pit Bull,’” as it does not refer to a single breed of dog, but rather to a group of breeds with similar characteristics1. These characteristics include short hair, a wide skull and shoulders, muscle definition, stocky build and a deep jawline, the combination of which create a dog that manages to strike fear into a perfect stranger. The term ‘Pit Bull’ is derived from the bulldog, which was originally bred as a hunting dog for large game, but has since developed into a “loyal companion rather than a working dog.”1 Their history as “gripping dogs” for hunters follows them into modern society, as many of these dogs have been inhumanely pitted against one another as well as other animals for sport and for human entertainment1. It is because of these illegal fighting rings that ‘Pit Bull’ type breeds have become the subje...
There is no such breed as a "pit bull". "Pit bull" applies to mainly 3 breeds but is very often used to describe any medium-sized short-haired dog with a square muzzle.
Pit bulls are believed to have originated in the late 1700’s, when the terriers, typically small dogs bred to catch vermin, were crossbred with bulldogs, a stockier dog whose duty was to catch stray cattle. This produced a dog with a high prey drive with a medium-sized, stocky build and powerful jaws. Contrary to popular belief, the dogs were originally used in the sport of bull-baiting, where dogs would attack the cattle - not other dogs. Since the sport was executed in a pit, the dogs were dubbed ‘pit bulls’ and that name has stuck since. When the sport was banned in 1835, the people who relied on these dogs for an income turned the dogs against each other.
Most of the dogs on this list are common household pets, like the Labrador retriever, and are normally non-aggressive and very friendly. Many times these dogs show no sign of aggression and pose no threat to society. Perspective One Breed-specific laws were put in place with the expectation to help prevent dog bites and attacks. The State and Federal government both came to the conclusion that this is a positive way to promote safety from dog attacks. “Both state and federal courts consistently uphold the constitutionality of breed-specific pit bull laws.... ...
They can suddenly become killing machines and destroy everything including kill people. They even hurt their owners when they are unhappy. Chris Thompson who was one of the people that fend off the dogs said that he had grabbed a pot plant and cracked it over one dog’s head and the shock made them disperse but then they came back and latched onto another person’s hand. A hard pot plant cannot cause any injury on the dog. Mr Keith Kirkpatrick, who is a Brisbane dog trainer and adviser to Brisbane City Council has said, “They’re not a good guard dog because when they bite they switch off. You can tap them on the head but there’s nobody home and their plan threshold is
To say “pit bull,” however, is a vague reference to several pit bull types, which are considered separate breeds by registries like the American Kennel Club (AKC). Each type has a slightly different breeding history; many began with the breeding of bulldogs with terriers to produce a loyal, compact and tenacious breed (“American Pit Bull Terrier”). The standard three pit bull types most often mentioned by name in breed-specific legislation include the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. That is not the extent of the legislation, however, which also includes dogs that “substantially conform to the breed standards established by the American Ken...

Pit bulls were also the preferred guard dog for gangs, thugs and criminals. Since the supporters and detractors of pit bulls hold such disparate opinions regarding the ferocity of the breeds, it is only hoped that further discussion and education will help resolve the sad fate that awaits these unfortunate animals. Simply placing all the blame on the breeds will not solve the problems of dog fighting, overbreeding, aggressive training, and excessive euthanizations. Lastly, the biased, sensationalistic publicity of horrific dog attacks which has destroyed the reputation of the once beloved All American Dog must cease.
There are a lot of facts and information about pit bulls that the public does not know. The media blows things way out of proportion with this breed of dog and doing simple research can shed some light. “There are three main types of ‘pit bulls,’ they are the Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers” (Pit Bull Rescue Center). The Staffordshire bull terrier is originally from England. When it was brought over to the states it was bred with other terriers and the American Staffordshire came to be. Often times people classify dogs that look a certain way as pit bulls, when in fact they are an entirely different breed or a mix of some sort.

They will do anything that they are told to do. Their strength, stamina, and speed fuel the passion they have for their owners. Pit bulls are not vicious by nature; they are good guard dogs fueled by the love for their family; and, they are definitely loyal friends. They have a lower temperament than many other well-known breeds; therefore, they are not vicious by nature at all. They are very strong guard dogs. Dogs that are forced to fight and are conditioned to defend themselves or die. When these dogs get loose, everything is a threat to them and they defend themselves in the name of survival. If golden retrievers were bred and raised with the sole purpose of fighting to the death, they would be just as dangerous as pit bulls. On the contrary, if all pit bulls were bred and treated as family dogs, they would have the same reputation as golden retrievers, if not better, as the statistics found in the temperament test above show.
