When a new school year arises, so does a new season. This 2015-2016 school year, God has led Spelman's Pinky Promise to be "Fishermen for Christ" which is a new insight for this organization. Many times as Christians we make a mistake by misjudging others, which is not pleasing to God. Sometimes new Christians don't even like walking into a church because they think the older Christians will judge their history.
Well here is the good news, Pinky Promise will be the ones to transform that perspective. We have open arms to everyone without any judgement towards one another as a Christian and a Spelman Sister. We want to cast our net down to others not just to spread the word of God but to help others walk with him. When Jesus started preaching
the word of God, he told Peter and Andrew to follow him. As Woman of God we decided to follow the lead of Jesus too. Matthew 4:19 reads "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" as we continue to follow his words he will lead us to reach others on this journey he has called us on. We invite you to take up your cross and follow Jesus with us.
Roswell Street Baptist Church was once a slave plantation, but now seeks to reach intercultural, and intergenerational body of believers. Martin encourages not to be entrapped by nationalism, but to adopt the view Christ has which is His people, from all nationalities. Marin states, “Indeed, if all nations and all peoples would look to to God and acknowledge God as sovereign, there would be relative international order, harmony, and peace.” (Martin, 212, 2004) Roswell Street Baptist church has the history chains of being a “white supremacist” church that judged anyone: Latino, Muslims, and those with dark skin. Through the years their hearts have changed.
...heart, they may need that one last push or the different perspective a Christian could give them to lead them into Christ’s open arms.
Unfortunately, through the ages women have been unfairly held back in their ability to lead churches from the pulpit. From a historical perspective this issue is pervasive in mostly all churches whether black or white. The issues of sexism and woman 's rights in the black community often take a back seat to racial issues. It was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Injustices also happen in the church. Discrimination, based on gender bias, in the pulpit is a huge injustice to women, especially black women. The success of past and present churches is largely due to the efforts of women who make up more than a majority of most church congregations. Yet the responsibility to lead those same churchgoers is reserved for a man. What a travesty. The chapter eluded to women holding positions of leadership in Christian churches under titles such as exhorters, evangelists, and missionaries, but this does not do justice to the pivotal work that African-American women perform in the church. Regrettably for the Black Church, many black women have chosen to seek ministry opportunities in white denominations as they have shown more progressive attitudes toward accepting women as leaders in the church setting. Women have shown themselves to be pivotal in the church and are more or less the backbone to the body of believers to whom they serve,
Back in my high school, one day out of the month was dedicated to student-led clubs. On these so-called club days, most kids will go to any club just to get out of class. Some exclusive clubs, such as the Chess club, would look down on this. These groups would happily kick some kids, but there was one club happy to see everyone who came: the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The little exposure to Christianity found at this club was all that some kids would get and the moderators of my school’s club knew this. Little by little, this is FCA’s nation-wide goal: to change the world into knowing Jesus Christ. This non-profit organization is responsible for everything from small club meetings in middle schools, high schools, and colleges, to massive summer camps. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes’s website lists the group’s mission which is to present the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church to athletes and coaches and all whom they influence (FCA). No matter whether on the court or in a group-led bible study, FCA focuses on this mission.
In a traditional American family, it is not too uncommon to see the masculine half of a marital couple as the breadwinner while the more feminine half as the homemaker, caregiver, chef, maid etc. Why do the majority of us feel that this is the norm? These “Pink Collar” jobs and duties are so commonly associated with women when they just as equally can be done by a man. There is no law in a society that dictates that it is undignifying for a man to be a receptionist, flight attendant, wedding planner, massage therapist, maid, etc. However, some men deem these occupations to be too feminine. Honestly, I do not see the problem there is no shame in having great hospitality skills, cleaning up and taking care of your family or knowing how to care for and cook for yourself. It is because of this that I feel that the way Sarah Jaffe uses the word “pink collar” is not acceptable, she uses the oxford dictionary definition of the word which is “relating to work
Women have been involved in Christian ministry since the very beginning of Christianity. It has declined and risen according to the acceptance of the environment. The two papers addressed in this essay document the rise of women ministers in the Holiness movement as well as the decline of women in the modern Pentecostal movement. In response to this decline in women in ministry, Courtney Stewart gave points which the UPCI should tackle to rectify the situation.
However, when Michael Landon Jr. and I started on this journey to bring Janette Oke’s world of “When Calls the Heart” to the screen, we believed, like she did when she wrote the original books, that there are many great lessons and virtues out of the Bible from which people of all faiths can, and do, benefit. In fact, most of the great virtues of Western Civilization are right out of the Bible, such as honesty, integrity, compassion, courage, commitment, standing up for what’s right and against what’s wrong. And most faiths adhere to some version of “The Golden Rule,” so my hope for WCTH has always been that it appeals to all people who are seeking God. And I just think it’s good for our culture to have an alternative to zombies, vampires, werewolves, crystal meth dealers and dead body shows on television 24 hours a day. Hope and faith and family are good things for the
Most of God’s people are afraid to witness about Jesus to anyone. Let your life reflect Jesus in what ever you think, whatever you say, what ever you do in the name of Jesus for the glory of God.
Arthur Walkington Pink, otherwise known as A. W. Pink, has been one of the most influential scholars of the bible that I have ever come across, apart from the bible. First, I will discuss A. W. Pink’s history on this earth. Second, I will discuss the theology of A. W. Pink that came from the bible. Third, I will discuss the influence A. W. Pink has had upon the theological world and the influences within politics through the means of theology. Lastly, I will discuss the influence A. W. Pink has had upon my understanding of Scriptures and how that has pushed me to be involved in politics.
Ever since the story of Eve, it has been human tendency to reject God’s word. No Christian ministry is exempt from the temptation to focus more on human desires and needs that on God’s provision and revelation of himself. Women’s ministry in particular can easily become about women’s issues rather than about women gathering together to hear and respond to God’s word.
They believe the best way to do this is by being willing to shine the shoes of others (Philippians 2:4). They accept that their identities are not formed by what they do or what others think. Or, if they can claim some creed, so God will smile upon them. Instead, they know they are the bride of
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John. 1:1) Jesus stated himself, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” (Revelation. 22:13) Jesus’ name is never-ending and filled with power and authority. One can see him still present in the twenty-first century as he was in the first. However, mankind has become too comfortable in their sin for too long. To establish the first century in comparison to the twenty-first, is too much to cover that it is condensed into small pieces and both pro and cons will be elaborated. Firstly, communicating evangelism in action is vital and is still continually done even as the generations change. For the Bible states, “…The everlasting God, the
This semester has proved to be a real awakening to what direction I need to be pursuing in my spiritual walk. I have learned so much through this course. Some of the things that I have learned that have become more important than they were in the past are; the need for silence, the need for community, the need for direction, and above all how utterly helpless we are when we try to “do” everything, including ministry without seeking God first.
There are still those in the Christian community that are perpetrating the erroneous traditional teachings of the Jews pertaining to the prohibiting of women leadership. In America where this practice is upheld there is no growth and in some cases church doors are being closed, because members are leaving. “According to the United Methodist Church, for instance, in 1989 there were 217 black women ministers out of a total 39,700. And in the Episcopal Church, there were 46 black women out of a total of 14694 clergy.” https://www.nyti.ms/29uNGpk It is imperative to note that this error that prohibits or diminishes the woman’s role in leadership is not peculiar to any one culture but to all. “In the African Methodist Episcopal Church there is an
Evangelism is one of the key component for changing people’s lives. McRaney states, “The word evangelism comes from a combination of Greek words for “good” and “messenger.” Evangelism involves bringing the goods. Kent Hunter reminded us that “when Christians witness, they tell how Jesus Christ has changed their own lives. The change in their own lives gives them the desires to share the Good News with others.” Christians must share their testimony to people and spread the gospel so that they can bring lost souls to Christ. God has commissioned every Christian to evangelize so that people will learn about Jesus Christ and accept Him as their personal savior. Matthew 28:19 states, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. Christians are required to spread the Gospel throughout the world and can no longer just attend church. Christians must plant seeds and water the seeds so that lost souls will be saved.
