Pillow Angels are mentally disabled children by various birth defects. Most Pillow Angels are unable to talk, and or walk. The term Pillow Angel was first used by the parents of Ashley, because she always laid on her pillow unable to move because her brain is severely damaged. Pillow Angel is a term for mentally disabled individuals that have their physical growth stunted by various medical procedures. These procedures make it convenient on the caregivers and give the individual a better quality of life. The procedure of females can include a Hysterectomy which mean removing the uterus, to relieve the risk of the female getting pregnant and so that they don't have to worry about having menstrual cramps and or their menstrual cycle. for female can also include Breast Bud Removal, removing the almond sized gland to make it easier for placing the individual in wheelchair with harnesses. These procedures are a simple surgery if the female is pre-puberty. “The Ashley Case” is one of, if not the first, cases of pillow angels.
When Ashley's’ parents started her treatment she was 53in(135cm) tall and 65lbs(30kg) in weight and she will remain the size of a 9 year old. Ashley is at a stable 54in(137cm) tall and 75 lbs(34kg). Ashleys had Hypotonia(Low Muscle Tone), Difficulty feeding, Choreoathetoid(involuntary Movement), and developmental delays. Approximately 600,000 hysterectomies are performed each year. The whole topic of Pillow Angels are very controversial because people think that it is not morally and, or ethically right. Some people think that doing a hysterectomy on a child is not right, but if all the child can do is lay in bed and have to rely on somebody else to change them and move them from place to place, How do they expect the child to carry a child, and by removing the uterus it eliminates the horrible pain the little girl would go through when they have their menstrual cycle. Some People also think that isn’t right to remove a little girl's breasts’ but, if the child not have a uterus and will not get pregnant they will not need them to breastfeed a baby, but it would also be hard to put the child in a chair with a harness if they have breast that grew with puberty. I think that it is

A woman in the film explains that, she lack of so much information that in the day after the surgery, she was cut and sew with black thread and she said “O my God” what have they cut me. In addition, she mentions that she was a total ignorant, but she feels that she wasn’t forced to do it that she went on her own free will, but if she would have been told of other childbirth methods she would have done it. Also, another woman said that the gynecologist told her that she was going to have the tied tube procedure that consisted of having her Fallopian tubes tied, but she didn’t know it was also
As I walked up the street toward the front of Grace Cathedral, I was in awe at the size and ornateness of this cathedral. It was tall and wide and looked very much like the churches we had been studying in class in the prior weeks. As I got closer and closer I began to make out The Ghiberti Doors, also known as the gates of paradise. These are the main cathedral doors made out of bronze, and are replicas of the originals which stood centuries ago at the east entrance to the Baptistry of Florence Cathedral (the Duomo) Italy. I approached and spent about fifteen minutes, just examining all the different engraved scenes within the ten sections in the two doors. After I had finished looking at the Ghiberti Doors, I entered through one of the side doors, since you are not able to use the Ghiberti Doors, because they weight too much. Before I stepped inside the cathedral, I pulled out my text analysis and read over it, so that when I entered I could examine whether or not this cathedral exuded the same sacredness as the cathedral in the text analysis. I feel this Cathedral really does exude not entirely the purity of heaven, but does seem to somewhat separate you from the outer world, as Abbot Suger spoke of. Also, it brings in some of the surrounding beauty from St. Denis, such as the sapphire and stained glass, as well as the gold plating.
Gynaecological surgery refers to surgery performed on the female reproductive system For the purpose of this essay, I am going to discuss the role of the midwife in the care and management of a woman who has undergone a hysterectomy. Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus (Oxford Dictionary of Nursing, 2014). It is major gynaecological surgery and the immediate post operative period is a very important time for recovery. As with every surgery, there are the associated risks attached. According to O'Connor et al, 2004, there is a 2% risk of infection, haemorrhage 0.5% and mortality 6-11 per 1000 regardless of which surgical method is used for the hysterectomy. Therefore, I am going to use relevant literature and guidelines to discuss
The “Ashley Treatment” also referred to as “Pillow Angel” was based on the controversial set of medical procedures undergone by the Seattle child named Ashley X. Ashley was born in 1997 and was diagnosed with static encephalopathy of unknown etiology. She’s able to breath on her own, sleeps, awaken, and response to environmental stimuli; however, due to the cause of her severe developmental disabilities, Ashley is unable to raise her head, sit up, holds an object, walk, talk, and must be fed through a gastrostomy tube. Also, according to Robert W. Newsom, 2009, “ Ashley is able to experience the cognitive and emotional life of, at best, a typical 3-to-6 month old child.”
A few weeks ago The New York Times published the article Hopeful Start for First Uterus Transplant in the U.S. The article talks about the candidate who will be receiving the first uterus transplant and the expected outcome (Grady). This is exciting news for many women in the United States, but there are a few people that don’t share the excitement. Although there have been uterus transplants performed in other countries before, bioethical issues still arise. There have been some heated debates on this issue in the past, and both the supporting and opposing sides make good points. The truth of the matter is that even though there is risks uterus transplants can benefit women and medicine a great deal.
After describing the specifics of the procedure, Tisdale reveals, “I am speaking in a matter-of-fact voice about ‘the tissue’ and ‘the contents’ when the woman suddenly catches my eye and asks, ‘How big is the baby now?’…I gauge, and sometimes lie a little, weaseling around its infantile features until its clinging power slackens” (712). It would be quite impressive to not be absolutely disgusted by this statement. Not only do they encourage abortions, but they deceitfully and mendaciously word things so that women are unaware of how drastic their choice to continue with the procedure is. Although her view is absolutely preposterous, it is not that surprising after continuing to read through the rest of her article.
Imagine being in excruciating pain from a gaping hole in the back of your neck. Then you hear a slight “whirr” before your brains are sucked out through a tiny tube. Sadly this happens to many babies each day because they are unwanted, inconvenient, or imperfect. The abortionist first delivers the baby breech style except for the head, scissors are then jammed into the head at the base of the skull, and the brains sucked out, the skull then collapses. This procedure is commonly known as partial birth abortion or Intact Dilation and E...
Dozens of couples in the United Kingdom are opting to have this done so they can give birth to free from disease
While watching “Half of the Sky” video extras, there were short videos of women telling their story. There were multiple stories dealing with women having too many children because that was all they were supposedly good for. A woman in a video died because she had complication during labor. She had three babies within three years prior to her death and that was not uncommon in her country. If a woman were not able to conceive a child, they would never find love, it is the Survival of the Fittest. This was causing an over population as well causing diseases in the females that were sometimes fatal. A fistula is a hole in the vaginal wall that lets feces come out of the vagina, which are caused during childbirth. These women are left by their families due to their smell and are humiliated because there is nothing to help them. There are two million women living with a fistula and only 14,000 are treated each
In Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel Beloved, many of the central themes about slavery tie back into present day issues of race. It is no secret that in our nation there is an issue of race, and there always has been. It has faded since slavery was abolished in the late 1800s, however it is still a present day concern which deserves recognition, as well as, a solution. The best way to get over the issue is to admit that there is indeed a problem of race still alive and well within the United States. Today, race is a touchy subject, and is often talked about delicately, and many will point to things, like the fact that our president is black, to support their opinion that the race issue is over.

Partial birth abortion, which was banned by the Senate, was a major practice used by many around the world. In this procedure the abortionist, whom is guided by the use of an ultrasound, grabs the baby’s legs with forceps pulling the baby into the birth canal, ever so carefully delivering the entire body except for the head. Following the partial birth, the abortionist jams a pair of scissors into the bay’s skull, slightly opening then to increase the size of the hole. The scissors are then removed and a suction catheter is inserted into the hole enabling the brain to be drained and skull to collapse. The dead baby is then removed from the mother’s birth canal. More highly utilized is deliberates induction of a miscarriage. This procedure is practiced everyday all over the world and only takes approximately fifteen minutes. The cervix of the women is dilated with rods allowing a tube to be inserted into the uterus. The fetus and placenta are then “vacuumed” out. The uterus is then scraped with an instrument known as a curette to make sure no products remain behind.

Would a man sacrifice his body to abide children, since his wife had a hysterectomy? In this story, Thomas Beatie had given birth to his second child born. Originally a woman, who had sex-reassignment surgery and legally changed her gender from female to male, however, he kept his female reproductive organs to bear children, since his wife could not produce children because of the removal of her uterus. The general theme of “Beatie Pregnant Man” revolves around the pursuit of happiness. The decision made from both people was what made the family caring and happy. Thesubject may be dealing with the media giving the public false statements about the family. Six different organizations on the phone doing a conference called them saying, “you can't go public.” That they cannot talk about this, it needs to be hidden. And that they need to be embarrassed. Thomas states that, “But as far as, you know, doing it for the fame, I have to say I'm infamous.” Even though they are incompatible and deceitful about sexual characteristics, the outcome of undergo towards their children of growing up in unusual circumstances, after all they are eventually an acceptable representation to others.
Everybody; old and young have active an imagination, but we all express it differently than others. For me I express my imagination with my artwork. For example; when I was younger I watched a lot of cartoons just like any other kid. My favorite cartoon at the time was He-Man. I loved the show so much that I frequently dreamt and imagined of being strong like him, but I knew it could not be possible so instead of dreaming, I drew up an entire comic book of myself being a super strong super hero just like He-Man all thanks to my vivid imagination and artistic ability. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has done something similar.
