Most often, geography and history are relatively synonymous, because several locations have a resounding places in history. The main concepts of geography such as location, place, and regions are related with the major ideas of history such as time, period, and events. The relationship between history and geography is especially close because they represent two fundamental dimensions of the same phenomenon (Guide to teaching world history 2001-2004). Similarly, by studying the geography and history of Pike’s Peak, one can learn the effect of pike’s peak over Colorado history. The influence of pikes peak in history of Colorado

Pikes peak can batter understood by studying its location. Pikes peak is the highest and most famous summit of United States located in Colorado Spring. The Spanish were the first European to discover pikes peak in 18th century. “The first Americans who saw the mountain are often said to have been the members of the Pike expedition, led by Zebulon Pike in 1806. Pike called the mountain ‘The Great Peak’” (thousand wonders 2014). He attempted to climb the peak but he was not able because of the heavy snowfall. Edwin James was the first American to climb this summit in 1820. James renamed the “pikes great peak” as “pike peak” which later become one of the famous mining area. “In 1859, gold was discovered on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado by Pike's Peak “(Native American). Due to which the crazy rush of people from east started coming to Colorado. This period was said to be “pikes peak or bust”. Many people packed their wagons in large number and came to this area. The small mining boom towns were started building in Colorado’s mountains. After the vein of gold run, many miners moved to different parts of Colorado. Some miners become very rich, where as some miners led a difficult life and left the camps with less money than what they came with. The pikes peak gold rush event is considered as the main event in the history of
The Bullfrog Valley gang was a notorious counterfeiting ring that operated in the wilderness of Pope County during the depression of the 1890’s.The gang’s origin and and methods were mysterious, but the New York Times reported ist demise on June 28, 1897.The remote valley, which follows Big Piney Creek from Long Pool to Booger Hollow, was named for Chief Bullfrog, a Cherokee Who, according to legend, settled there after his tribe’s forced removal from Georgia (the Trail of Tears by the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Bullfrog Valley, an unincorporated community not typically recognized on current Arkansas state maps, is located along the Big Piney Creek near the community of Silex. The main theme in Rising from the Plains is the formation of the Rocky Mountains. “Topography grows, shrinks, compresses, spreads, disintegrates, and disappears” (McPhee 27). The physical features of the Earth are temporary and are always changing. The

As most folks do, when I think of the term “Gold Rush”, it conjures up images of the West! Images of cowboys and crusty old miners ruthlessly and savagely staking their claims. Immigrants coming by boat, folks on foot, horseback, and covered wagon form all over the US to rape and pillage the land that was newly acquired from Mexico through the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo… California. But let me tell you about a gold rush of another kind, in another place, even more significant. It was the actual first documented discovery of gold in the United States! Fifty years earlier…in North Carolina!
This mass rush of people all started in the summer of 1897; George Carmack was back from the Klondike with the gold he discovered in the summer of 1896 (SV; SV) (“The Klondike Gold Rush”). There was another ship, named Excelsior, which docked in San Francisco it also brought another miner and their riches from the Klondike (Stefoff). After the ships docked in Seattle and San Francisco, the word was out. “Even in those pre-Twitter days, word spreads fast.” (Martel). Thanks to the telegraph and many newspapers the gold rush drew many people looking for instant wealth (Stefoff). Once the people heard these telegraphs or saw the newspapers the prospectors were off to the Klondike (Glasner). The newspapers wrote an article on the boats coming to town saying “ A Ton of Gold from the Fabulous Klondike” Actually it was closer to two tons (Wharton).
Colorado also has a rich mining history which began in about 1859 with the discovery of gold and development of new reserves, Colorado’s present day industry is a modern, innovative, safe and environmentally responsible citizen that extracts a wide variety of minerals such as; gold, Marble, and gypsum from the earth, valued at more than $2 billion each year. (Colorado Mining Association, 2007)

Human activity has major effects on geography. When studying the earth you can come to several conclusions about the geography of any particular civilization. Distribution of life in the civilization allows you to analyze whether their geography is their own destiny. Do people control their own destiny? Is geography something that people can control? Technology is really the key to why geography can be overcome by any people.
Maude, A. (2009). Re-centering Geography: a school-based perspective on the nature of the discipline. Geographical Research, 47(4), 368-79.
Since the beginning of humankind, the study of geography has captured the imagination of the people. In ancient times, geography books extolled tales of distant lands and dreamed of treasures. The ancient Greeks created the word "geography" from the roots "ge" for earth and "grapho" for "to write." These people experienced many adventures and needed a way to explain and communicate the differences between various lands. Today, researchers in the field of geography still focus on people and cultures (cultural geography), and the planet earth (physical geography).
Geography as we know is the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these. Among the factors that geography gets to dictate is the distribution of populations, resources, climate, location, and stability of a country.
In this assignment I will explore the links between history and geography and the implications for teaching as well as indicating the implications of these links for the school curriculum; reflecting on relevant literature, my school experiences and university based sessions. Whilst both subjects are distinguished individually in the National Curriculum (DfEE 1999) Pickford et al, (2013) consider the significant cross curricular links between the subjects that cognate the subject area due to their shared concepts and skills. However it is vital that in order to find links, a distinctive appreciation is made for geography and history as unique subjects, to ensure emersion between them is most effective (Turner and Bisset, 2000).
The word geography comes from the word geographia, which means “to describe earth.” Geography is the study of the dispersal and interaction of physical and human characteristics of the earth. Geographers view the world by looking at the use of space and the interactions that take place in earth. They look at patterns and connections between people and the land. Physical geography is the most recognisable and it is an important part of this study. Geographers study the world by looking at a location, place, region, movement, and human-environment interaction. They also use a variety of tools, such as: globes, maps, GIS, satellites and GPS to aid them. Geography is really important because it studies different aspects, uses interesting tools
As regards the relevance of physical geography, it can be claimed that, it has lot of relevance in present times due to its interdisciplinary nature. It is an interesting subject and highly useful in day to day life of human beings.
