“To draw you must close your eyes and sing.” Picasso was an artist at even a young age. His mother claimed that he was drawing when he was one. His paintings were beautiful, no matter what was happening or what they looked like (“Famous”). Picasso was one of the world's greatest artists changing people's views of art in that abstract art can be beautiful and yet complex at the same time. On October 25, 1881 Don José Ruiz y Blasco and Maria Picasso y López gave birth to a baby boy. Little did they know that one day, he would be one of the greatest and well known artist of the world. However, Picasso’s father was a painter, a professor of art, and the curator of the local museum (“Pablo Picasso and His Paintings”). His father said he was very impressed with his son’s drawings at a young age. Picasso's mother even claimed that Picasso’s first words were ‘Can I have a pencil?’ At age ten, Picasso’s family moved to A Coruna where a fine arts school hired Ruiz to teach. They spent four years there when Picasso’s father believed his son had become …show more content…
His depression got better and he started doing cheery pieces starring circus people and harlequins. Picasso also met Fernande Olivier who shortly become his lover and appears in many of Picasso's paintings such as Fernande to Black Mantilla. He soon became financially stable and his troubles faded away. During this period, Picasso painted some of his most valuable paintings including his Portrait of Gertrude Stein (“Pablo Picasso and His Paintings”). During Picasso's Blue Period, Pablo was expressing his sadness and sorrow, but during his Rose period, the paintings lead a life of their own. “The type of person is recognizable, not the person itself. The subject is characterized, not portrayed. This, although a step in the direction of abstract art, is not most important feature of Picasso's Rose Period” (“1904 To
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the world’s greatest and most well-known artists, but when he was alive he considered himself to be a complete failure. It was not until after he died that Van Gogh’s paintings received the recognition they deserved. Today he is thought to be the second best Dutch artist, after Rembrandt. Born in 1853, he was one of the biggest artistic influences of the 19th century. Vincent Van Gogh created a new era of art, he learned to use art to escape his mental illness, and he still continues to inspire artists over 100 years later.
Painters paint what they feel. Whether it is at that very moment, or how they have felt for the past five years - an artist’s work is always about how they feel. That is why anyone can tell all there is to know about Krasner and Pollock’s relationship just by viewing their artwork. One reason why I chose them is because I heard a joke about Jackson Pollock in my favorite TV show, Archer. Another reason is that one of his paintings, “One: Number 31,” looks to me like the Vatican’s “Thrown of Satan.” The foremost reason why I chose this couple is that their mutual attractiveness matches, making for a pleasant picture. Although Jackson and Lee’s relationship was charming on the surface, it was volatile. The nature of this might have helped Pollock’s work elevate, but it definitely affected Krasner’s work negatively.
The lenses of capitalism and communism influence how Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei’s art are seen as political critiques. The celebrity persona of Andy Warhol differs greatly from that of Ai Weiwei, however “Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei share an Iconoclastic spirit” (Delaney, M, 2016 p.27). More so their artistic practices both stem from Marcel Duchamp’s, ‘ready-mades’. This essay will consider the extents to which both artists’ can be considered activists. If there were a binary in place to understand the political effects and various ways activism is preformed, Weiwei and Warhol would undoubtedly be on opposite sides of the spectrum. Ai Weiwei would take on the overtly active and outspoken side, while Warhol’s passivity and projected indifference
After his initial Cubist period, Picasso moved through various other stages. He experimented with sculpture and still lifes, and by his death at the age of ninety-two, could be considered "the most famous and talked about painter in recent history."
While his life was building up to the moment he became rich off of his creativity, it helped him become the man he is today. No matter how unique his life has been, one thing has been a constant in his life, along with many others; He was influenced by the color and personality shown through a piece of art, which was the intent in the first place.
Diego Rivera was deemed the finest Mexican painter of the twentieth century; he had a huge influence in art worldwide. Rivera wanted to form his own painting fashion. Although he encountered the works of great masters like Gauguin, Renoir, and Matisse, he was still in search of a new form of painting to call his own (Tibol, 1983). His desire was to be capable of reaching a wide audience and express the difficulties of his generation at the same time, and that is exactly what h...
Hindu believes women are creator, caretaker, destroyer and a lover. Such beliefs are common in both eastern culture and western tradition that can be seen represented in different canvases of many famous artists. From renaissance Michelangelo Angelo to abstract Pablo Picasso, artists have always painted women in different circles of life explaining different paradox of emotional feelings, spiritual beliefs, and physical representations. Explaining such themes in balanced form and in limited canvases was not possible without abstract thinking and imaginative hard work. Such trend in art can be seen in artwork of different famous artists, which they created as per their thoughts and desire broadening meaning of visual arts pouring the spices of science and technology.
From 1904-1906 Picasso used “rosey” colors to convey his work. During this period, he meets his one-day model, Fernande Olivier. She would eventually become his mistress and thus encouraging the start of The Rose Period. He focused his work on harlequins, circus’s, and street performers. More often then not he showed them, not doing acts but on the side alone. (Fox). The majority of colors used were of pinks and oranges. This is the start of his use of primitivism in work. Primitivism is an expression of unsophistication,
Pablo Picasso was fostered for creation, his love for the work he did and for the people he shared it with led him to be the most dominant artist of the 20th century. The foundation for Picasso’s successful life was set early on. He was brought into this world by mother, Maria Picasso Lopez (Bernadac and Bouchet 18), and father, Don Jose Ruiz Blasco (Cabanne 1), on October 25th in 1881, at 11:15 p.m. (Bernadac and Bouchet 17). It was a difficult birth and Pablo was a weak baby, so weak the midwife believed he was a stillborn (Pablo Picasso Biography 8). It was his uncle who realized he was alive, he blew cigar smoke in Pablo’s face to see if the baby would react; when he scowled they all knew Pablo was alive (Pablo Picasso Biography 8). Pablo
Born in 1886 Diego Rivera was born to a wealthy family living in Guanajuato, Mexico. At the age of two his twin brother died and a year later Diego Rivera started drawing, his parents caught him drawing on walls and instead of punishing him nurtured his artistic side by enabling him with the supplies he needed. Throughout his life Diego Rivera was dedicated to art, “He began to study painting at an early age and in 1907 moved to Europe. Spending most of the next fourteen years in Paris, Rivera encountered the works of such great masters as Cézanne, Gauguin, Renoir, and Matisse.” Influenced by the work of such great minds Rivera began the search for his own signature and contribution to modern art, “Rivera was searching for a new form of painting, one that could express the complexities of his day and still reach a wide audience.” Rivera found the medium he was looking for, a form of street art involving murals painted on fresh plaster, he returned to Mexico to introduce this new form of art to the public. Rivera soon sewed himself into the art community in America, “His outgoing personality puts him at ...
One of the many symbols that Picasso used was an anguished mother with a dead child. On the far left of the painting, we can see that a woman’s head is being thrown back and her mouth is wide open, as if she is screaming out on the top of her lungs while holding onto the body of a small, limp child. Perhaps she was a mother who was crying out in pain and despair over the her dead child in her arms. Her eyes, nose and lips were drawn in the shape of tears which may symbolize how much distress she was feeling after she realized that her child became a victim of the

By several accounts, Gertrude Stein posed for Pablo Picasso more than 90 times during the winter of 1905-6. Each session was never quite correct, with many botched attempts and frustrations. Ultimately Picasso sent her away, stating "I can't see you any longer when I look," then created a new portrait of her nearly a year later without seeing her again. It was regarded as a curious mask-like visage, not really an accurate representation of Stein at the time. When others remarked that Gertrude Stein did not look like her portrait, Picasso stated "She will." Eventually Picasso's belief in the 'premonitory powers' of his portraits was affirmed as Stein came to very greatly resemble her portrait, stating in 1938, "I was and I still am satisfied with my portrait; for me, it is I, and it is the only reproduction of me which is always I, for me" (Rodenbeck).
His work is mostly famous with his Cubism events. As he enters its twenty-fifth year, Picasso changed his style of painting. It breaks down and reproduces objects in simple geometric shapes. Cézanne, African tribal art and Iberian sculpture would be the inspiration the painter when it turned to Cubism. (Picasso, P. (1970) With the Demoiselles d 'Avignon that this new style explodes in 1907. That same year, he met Georges Braque with whom he develops the power of Cubism. The two work closely together. To address the problem of representing what exists in three dimensions on a two dimensional surface, Braque and Picasso bring a new answer. They replace the usual codes of color, volume and perspective through a system of geometric signs. They will add to it, in a subsequent phase (synthetic cubism), the use of pieces of various materials (sand, paper, metal, wood, fabric, cardboard ...) to avoid falling into abstract art. Picasso abandons Cubism in 1915. (p25) It had been demonstrated that his work had given a big importance in our current historical events and how it was also given a big importance in his times such as in the support of the cubism
