The PAR-Q is a questionnaire that ask certain questions about your health history to determine if you are capable of starting an exercise program without the approval of a doctor (Howley, 2012). This questionnaire is a clear indication to yourself and your doctor that you are not ready to partake in physical activities because they could cause harm to your current health. The HSQ is a questionnaire that is more in depth, asking about specific questions about health issues and illnesses (Howley, 2012). After completing the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and the Health Screaming Questionnaire I noticed that I answered no to all of the questions that were asked. I was excited to see that the answer to all of the question were …show more content…
The minimum exercise recommendations according to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans my age and cohort should complete at least two and a half hours of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity every week to gain health benefits (“Physical Activity Guidelines”, n.d). Based on my cohort, I should focus most on physical activities that strengthen my muscles as well as, some form of aerobic training. Some more common muscle strengthening activities are things like weight training and resistance training which overwhelm the muscles (“Physical Activity Guidelines”, n.d). Other activities are things like pushups, pullups, sit-ups, and even heavy gardening and lifting (“Physical Activity Guidelines”, n.d). According to the text these activities help to raise muscular fitness as well as bone strength within my age and cohort. Activities for the also important aerobic aspect of the physical guidelines are things like swimming, running, playing basketball, dancing, bicycling, and even vigorous walking (“Physical Activity Guidelines”, n.d). According to the text these activities are endurance activities where muscles are moved for a more continuous period of time which. These activities are exercising the heart which makes the heart stronger over
Kerr (2012) states that there are 3 main types of exercise which are aerobic, strength/resistance training and flexibility exercises. Aerobic exercises will help keep the heart, lungs and muscles healthy, and when paired with a healthy diet will aid in weight loss. Appropriate resistance training will help to improve strength, posture and balance as well as causing the participant’s body to look more toned. Also the build up of muscle will aid with weight loss as at rest muscle burns more calories than inactive tissue. These exercises should be done two or three times a week. Flexibility exercises are important because if a muscle isn’t stretched then overtime it will shorten and become less elastic. Therefore joint mobility will decrease and the likelihood of injuries to muscl...
Staying healthy does not only mean to eat a healthy diet, but also to be active and to provide our body with stamina so it can fight various diseases. According to Myers (2003) around a quarter of a million deaths in the United States are caused by insufficient physical activity. The US Public Health Service (1996) has provided enough evidence towards the effect of physical exercise on cardiovascular (e.g. coronary heart disease) and non-cardiovascular health (hypertension, osteoporosis, colon cancer etc.). They followed a group of people for several years and found a positive correlation between the amount of participants’ physical activity and their health problems. So how much exercise is just enou...
Due to the strong and growing evidence in scientific literature on the beneficial effects of physical activity on health and well-being, the importance of Clinical Exercise Science has increased. Physical activity is defined as any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure. Exercise, is a subcategory of physical activity that is planned, structured, repetitive, and purposeful in the sense that the improvement or maintenance of one or more components of physical fitness is the objective (http://www.who.int/dietphysicalactivity/pa/en/; last accessed on 30 April 2016). Generally speaking, Clinical Exercise Science is an applied clinical branch which deals with the application of various exercise modalities for
To improve health, it is important to maintain a 150-minute per week exercise. To people that want to lower their blood pressure or cholesterol, it is recommended that they complete 40 minutes of aerobic exercise (American Heart Association). This is hard evidence, because studies have been made, and sickness has gone down by focusing on aerobic exercise. It also measures the time that each person should focuses on doing cardiovascular in order to maintain a perfect health.
There are three different types of exercise. They are aerobic exercise, strength training, and flexibility. Aerobic exercise or cardio is where a person's heart rate and breathing rate are increased. For most people, a total of thirty minutes a day for at least three days is the best. Examples of aerobic exercise is walking, dancing, swimming, or anything that gets the heart rate up. Walking is actually my favorite physical activity.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services “adults should get at least two and a half hours (150 minutes) each week of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity ("Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans-)”. Unfortunately, it is estimated that only about 20% of adults are actually exercising the recommended amount ("CBSNews"). This leaves the other 80% of adults at a disadvantage. Inactivity in adults yields even more increased risk than children. Adults who do not exercise and do not get the proper nutrients are more at risk for “high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, stroke, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer ("Why Is It Important? -")”. Unlike children, adults are more aware of these risks, however adults have more reasons to be deterred. The most common reasons adults don’t exercise or eat healthy are that they don’t have time, they feel uncomfortable with their current physical condition, they lack energy due to a poor diet, or they just haven’t developed a habit for exercising ("CBSNews"). The last reason reiterates the need for better physical education
“The main concept is that exercise (a term we will use generically to cover both exercise training and physical activity) does more than change traditional ‘risk factors’ (blood lipids, hypertension, diabetes, etc.; Mora et al. 2007; Green et al. 2008). In this context, there is a ‘risk factor gap’, and exercise appears to be far more productive than it should be based on changes in traditional risk factors alone.”
Exercise is often thought of in a positive light. It is common belief in today’s society that a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine will lead to a long, healthy life. And in the simplest sense of the word, it will.
“With the exception of nutrition, more fallacies exist in the area of exercise than in any other area of health” (Dintiman, Stone, Pennington, & Davis, 1984). Exercise produces significant physical and mental benefits and is extremely vital to life. It substantially improves stamina, strengthens and tones muscles, helps prevent diseases, enhances flexibility, controls weight, and prolongs the quality of life. In order to gain all the benefits from exercise and be truly healthy, it is very important to understand and take action with both types of exercise: anaerobic and aerobic. With the combination of aerobic and anaerobic exercise, an individual will greatly increase their overall health and wellness significantly.
physical efforts. Another important point is that out of shape people has higher probability to get hurt on regular daily activity Physical Readiness Training (PRT). Steady amounts of exercise help manage the fat to muscle ratio of the body. Exercise attracts attention because of its ability to maintain a person’s weight. The simple act of walking burns calories, contributing to overall weight loss. For fitness fanatics, consistent, and more intense, exercise builds muscle. When muscles are not worked out they weaken, and the chances of injury elevates. However if muscles are overused, they become fatigued, and the risk of strains rise. Long term cardio exercise induces long term benefits. Studies have shown, with regular exercise, comes an increase in metabolism. Since exercise improves overall fitness, it helps boost the immune system. Nonetheless don’t overdo it, too much exercise without enough rest can promote colds. Keeping a consistent
