Pet Store cruelty Before anyone thinks about going to any Petco/Petsmart store, remember that behind closed doors the love of their animals does not exist. There have been several investigations against animal abuse in their warehouses and in stores. More importantly, the animal abuse being held by these companies is horrific beyond belief. The help for these animals starts with just one person at a time, hopefully bringing justice to these pet store companies. In the future Petsmart and Petco will get what they deserve for what they are doing to their animals, and for sticking behind the abuse of innocent pets. It is sad to see these companies not caring for the animals that they are supposed to be taking care of.

If you ever buy a pet from these stores chances are you’re going home with a sick animal. The animals don’t get care from a Veterinarian at the warehouses, therefore they are not looked at before they are put into stores. A sick animal will not survive for long if they don’t have the care they need, so people that buy animals from the stores won’t know if it is sick before it is too late. “Whenever I have gone into a Petco or a Petsmart I always get the same vibe; miserable fish, crap made in China and all looked after by underpaid unhappy employees” (Manukyan). people often think because it a pet store the workers must take care of the animals very well, but the reality is it’s usually the opposite. Where there are hurt animals in cages, employees often simply just “blow it off”, like it was meant to happen, when, in reality, if the animals were taken care of from the beginning, the employees won’t be so used to seeing dead animals in cages throughout their day. A former Petco employee spoke to PETA, telling her terrifying stories about working for the company. She explained how it became a procedure at the end of the night to count and collect all the dead animals left throughout the day. She continued, explaining that there was so many fish dead by the end of the day that employees often had a hard time seeing if the fish were alive or dead, so they took as many fish they could, put them in a bag, and threw them away. One of the most horrific stories she remembers while being an employee at Petco was when she heard claustrophobic parakeets fighting in a cage. “Running over, a fellow employee and I found that one parakeet had become the victim of frenzied pecking from cagemates-the other birds pecked all the flesh off the top of the of the animal’s head, leaving the skull completely exposed. I begged to be allowed to take the bird to a 21-hour veterinarian to be mercifully euthanized, and
