Peruvian Andean Agriculture
Peru has great geographical zones and climate which makes Peru an important agricultural nation. Peruvian Andean agriculture grows and produces a mass variety of potatoes and other crops such as maize. The region has developed agricultural methods that allow cultivation of potatoes. The use of terraces allows cultivation of potatoes on steep slopes which are at different altitudes. The region is at 4000 meters above sea level and the agricultural system involves cultivation of maize at lower areas and potatoes at medium altitudes. Socioeconomic and environmental factors pose a threat to the agricultural activities to the Andean region in Peru. This research will provide some detailed description of the Peruvian Andean …show more content…

The ecosystem functions require agricultural knowledge and skills supporting the annual productivity of potato. It includes water management to keep up with the leaf-level photosynthetic capacity (Atkin 1). Tropical forest contributes to the terrestrial carbon cycle and implicates foliar water storage capacity. Potato leaf nutrient concentration the variation in photosynthetic efficiency. Potato roots are the storage units of the potato and because of the water management systems, the plant stores most of the nutrients in its roots. The photosynthetic capability allows in climate condition management focusing on water systems. The knowledge on terraces and irrigation systems provides the tools required for water management, therefore, agriculture nourishment are at different …show more content…

Pests and diseases, are more technical issues, farmers not only cite family members and neighbors as their primary sources of information. (Godtland, Sadoule and Janvry 8). Pests and disease limit the satisfaction of food needs as they destroy the stages of production. However, the extension systems to the farmers provide crop protection measures knowledge which include the selection of resistant potato varieties and input of organic matter. The cropping systems developed by the Peruvian farmers allow them to grow healthy crops which are resistant to infections of pests and diseases. Pest and disease management programs are one of the methods used in maintaining the ecosystem conditions which increases biological activity in soil and enhance stabilization of the crops. As a result, the farmers have richness in
