In this week's material , we discuss the process and strategies for writing negative and persuasive messages thoroughly. The 3-step writing process was a highly significant factor in creating both negative and persuasive messages. As stated in the chapters, it is important to be clear and honest and provide evidence to build credibility whether one is giving bad news or persuading someone. The material also touches on ethics and etiquette and proper ways of handling situations such as rejections, negative information, faulty logic, and credibility.
Among the chapters , specifically in Chapter 11, the textbook discusses two different approaches to writing a negative message : Direct Approach and Indirect Approach . Although, the approaches
were listed to help write negative messages , the approaches can be used for persuasive messages as well. The direct approach can be described as "straight to the point "and proceeds with an explanation or reasoning meanwhile indirect is the opposite. The indirect approach begins with a "buffer" which is a statement that is meant to reveal the main idea slowly and carefully and then leads to the "bad" news or news. The indirect approach is commonly used when the receiver may not take the news lightly or one has built a relationship with the receiver and wants to maintain it. On either approach, it is important to close the message on a respectful and positive note. The video "How to be More Persuasive In a Simple Way", further emphasizes how the direct and indirect approach works with one simple example. In the beginning of the video , we are shown an email as an example that starts off with an indirect approach and slowly builds up to a request. However, as the video states and as one can read, this approach could be interpreted in a wrong way and perhaps the "buffer" in the beginning of the email did not work as a benefit. On the second email by using the direct approach, stating the request and then ending it on a positive note , the message is able to sound more sincere and is particularly effective. With that being shown, the way a person structures any message can affect the way an audience can perceive the overall purpose of the message. Therefore, it is crucial to use strategies and techniques correctly for better communication and results.
Summary – It is quite difficult to avoid any persuasive acts while resisting them at the same time. Being prepared with knowledge of how easy it is to be manipulated, controlled, seduced, etc. allows us to open up to the use of rhetoric.
My portfolio absolutely reflects my understanding of persuasive writing. Persuasive writing focuses on the ability to formulate an essay that takes an argumentative stance, but takes the opposition into consideration as well. My portfolio also represents the goals and objectives of persuasive writing. The essays I have written for this course demonstrate that I have certainly developed my critical thinking skills, and developed, or better yet, mastered my communication and personal responsibility skills; but, because of my occasional lack of analysis and issues with word choice, my writing process is not perfected.
Christopher McCandless’ long, fascinating, but an ultimately fatal journey into the wilderness of Alaska is depicted in the biography, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. Late in the of summer of 1990, a very young Christopher McCandless left his ordinary world in Annandale, Virginia to pursue a solitary life in the untamed wilds of Alaska. Many will insinuate that Christopher McCandless’ actions were childish and idiotic, but a stronger argument would be that his unconventional thinking and desire to live life on his own terms allowed him to reach self-actualization.
The purpose of a persuasive text is to change or alter the viewpoint of the reader for it to agree with the author’s perspective. The intention of this specific text is to persuade the reader to help end poverty today by joining ‘Make Poverty History’ and it uses persuasive language and techniques to do this – this essay will explain the effect on the reader and will focus on analysing persuasive language.
Most of us use the art of persuasive thinking every day in one way or another. However, most of the time we do not even realizes that we are using persuasion to influence that person. Unless we use the power of persuasion intended for whatever purpose such as to sell something or influence your intended target of something. There are many ways to be persuasive, but first must understand a few things such as human nature, thinking carefully and learning to control our emotions. When we are trying to persuade someone to accept our message, we are using the art of persuasion. One way to persuade someone into your way of thinking is to appeal to his or her pride is a deceitful persuasion.
In my mind, I have always associated freedom with adventures: mostly with outdoor adventures. I feel the most free by doing the thing I love the most: skiing. I live for those perfect powder days, filled with sunshine and joy. The days when you’re the first one at the top of the chairlift, and what you see in front of you is breathtaking: everything is covered in snow, sparkling from the sunlight. Then your skis dive into deep, fresh snow and you get to make the first turns down the mountain, leaving fresh tracks behind you. You feel like you have everything under control, but you’re pushing yourself to the limits at the same time, trying to go as fast as you can. All your problems disappear, and at that moment, the whole world just makes sense. You feel free.
Persuasion is the force exerted to influence behavior that includes a reflected change in attitude. Everyday we are bombarded with messagesfrom people who wish to influence our behavior and attitudes. Persuasion canbe used to accomplish good as well as bad, though, in my paper I willrefrain from making value judgements and only report the factual aspects. I will discuss the two basic routes to persuasion, the elements involved, andways to protect current attitudes and behaviors from change. When trying to persuade someone, there are two different methods from which to choose-the central and peripheral routes. The central route persuades by usingdirect arguments and pertinent information. The peripheral route persuadespeople by association with incidental cues
I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”
Work, work, work. Students in high school have an astronomical amount of work to do in such little time. Majority of students participate in some kind of physical activity outside of school, and the school want to force them to take subordinate classes like Physical Education that will just waste time and be in place of another class that will ready them for college. Hudson High School should allow the option for students to either play one sport every year, or take two Physical Education classes because it will allow for more efficiency among the students who want to take more classes that will better ready themselves for their college major. Hudson High School does allow for a student to take two flex credits to take the place of Physical Education, but these involve the students
In closing, Persuasion is a powerful tool, both in trying to persuade others and being
I am sure you are like everyone else out there and you want to achieve meaning in your life. There are unfortunately no short cuts to success or to invite meaning and fulfillment, into your experience. They are all the result of self-discipline and consistent commitment. Of course the moment you start down your journey towards the success you have visualized, you will start to enjoy the fruits of your endeavors. The challenge is to remain focused, patient and driven enough to stay on the path you have chosen. This is where discipline comes into it.
Two sided messages present an argument in favor of a position, but also considers the opposing argument. They offer the opportunity to increase the audience’s confidence and trust by asking both sides of the situation, and given that each aspect of the message has been analyzed. Although a speaker will present that they are in favor of a particular position, he/she will recognize the opposing viewpoint of their competitor. If a speaker is attempting to deliver a persuasive speech by speaking in favor of the audience about a particular issue in which they intend to persuade one on they must provide information that will capture their attention. Most times this is followed by a refutation of opposing viewpoints. When dealing with two-sided arguments the main focus is to concentrate on the concerns and persuading the audience that the idea or thought is legit. It is a natural instinct for human beings to be cautious or aware of anything that doesn’t no comply with their viewpoint
I hope everything is going good for you. It has been a while since we see each other. This election has become from sane to insane maybe just little. At least we should be happy with voter turnouts especially younger voters. What do you think of candidates between Hillary, Bernie, and Jill?
Every day, all over the world, thousands of people are killed or injured in crashes that were involved of a distraction of texting or talking on the roads. I believe that many people shouldn't get killed because of social media, texting or talking on the phone, on the roads. Everyone should have a peaceful death, by that I mean we shouldn't suffer and everyone should have at least a great amount of years to live (75 years or more!).
Second step is writing negative-news message, which is need sensitively, clearly and reliable, to help your readers accept your message and move on. Use a language that conveys the audience, by choosing a special approach direct or indirect, and which one is better for you recipient to start bad news with writing non-acceptance main idea, or prepare them with a description before you give them the negative news.
