Clean Up Mississippi Tackles D’iberville Elementary School
I. Introduction
Many people partake in littering because they overlook the consequences it has on the environment due to not properly knowing about the effects. They know that littering is “bad”, but don’t know how or why it’s bad. Litter threatens public health because it is a breeding ground for bacteria, causes car accidents, starts fires, and harms plants and animals, not to mention it could kill them as well. According to the CDC foundation, “Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of families and communities through promotion of healthy lifestyles, research for disease and injury prevention and detection and control of infectious diseases” ("What is

Clean Up Mississippi representatives will show a PowerPoint presentation explain and illustrate the impact litter has on the environment. Representatives will also explain ways on how to reduce litter in the city. This assembly will be an introduction to the school to kick of the anti-litter week as well as reminder on what the rest of week will entail.
Tuesday: Every home room class will participate in creating recycling labels for bins. Bins will be provided by Clean Up Mississippi to each homeroom in the school.
Wednesday: Each grade during their designated P.E. class will take a field trip to the local beach to pick up litter. Parents are welcome to help chaperone and also pick up litter.
Thursday: From the litter picked up on the beach on the previous day, students will create litter artwork such as the following in their art class:

About two weeks before the anti-litter week, the school office will send letters home to parents to explain when the campaign will be and what each day will be like. There would be also an open invitation for family members to come to the school during the week and participate with the students. Along with the letter will be a field trip permission form where parents will fill out if they allow or now allow their child to participate in the litter clean-up day at the local beach. The assembly on the first day of the anti-litter week will introduce the three R’s to make is easier for the student’s to understand what the week is about. The three R’s are reduce, reuse, and recycle. Students can easily remember the three R’s and take this them will for the rest of their life to remember not to litter. Beforehand, the school will communicate with Clean up Mississippi on how many homeroom classes there. Clean Up Mississippi will then purchase the bins and provide them to the classes. Bins can be designated as bottles, papers, cans, and/or plastic. With the returned permission forms, the school will have a count on how many will participate in the litter clean up and arrange how many buses will be needed. For the litter artwork, students can go through the litter with gloves and supervision to see what they can use to create their art. The last
Numerous people may not realize what he or she discards may in fact be of use to someone in a homeless condition, therefore education for the public to instruct them to donate more items should be considered. If collaboration could be made between the local refuse plants and the homeless shelters to help educate the public, more usable items could be donated rather than discarded as trash. This could be as simple as a correspondence attached to the monthly bills for all the residents of a
Florida International University recognizes its contribution to the accumulation of waste considering that it produces about seven million pounds of waste each year (Figueroa, 2010). Unlike other universities that still remain adamant in investing on green practices, FIU has, “governed by the State of Florida under Florida Statute 403.714 and The Florida Solid Waste Management Act of 1988” (FIU, 2011), established its own internal ‘green machine’ or solid waste and environmental protection system via the FIU Custodial Services Office. The university’s efforts in ensuring efficient solid waste management even “far exceeds the minimum standards” (FIU, 2011) required by law. What makes the solid waste management efforts of the university one-of-a kind is the establishment of a “single stream recycling program which means that all recyclable items can be placed into one bin and do not have to be sorted” (FIU, 2011). Nevertheless, despite the use of single recycle bins, proper labeling has to accompany each bin to ensure that only materials that are recyclable are placed in the bins. There are also different sized of bins which are placed stra...
The Pre-K and Kindergarten class studied habitats of various animals and insects. They were given examples and tough how the animals made their homes. The students built a bird house as their project and as something to take home to remind them of what they learned. Finally they went on a field trip to Legoland where they explored and built “habitats” for their families and the Lego people. The first and second grade class learned about marine life and the ocean. They built shoe box dioramas of coral reefs and created art projects depicting sea life as well as learning new facts about the ocean. The students got to go to the Aquarium for their field trip. Finally the third and fourth graders studied the rain forests and their ecosystems. The students built rainforest models and terrariums along with small group discussions on different ideas human intervention and conservation. They finished their week at the zoo where they studied different rainforest inhabitants in
You need just to bring a trash bag along with you on your walks in the woods or other places and pick up the occasional piece of trash that you can see. Even that small act can make a huge difference. You can tell your friends, parents, and other people to let them get involved in helping the
One of my personal goals for the project was to learn as much as I could about the sustainability issue facing us. I did this by participating in all of the projects that were done throughout the semester. The main project that occurred during the semester was the personal sustainability goals that we each set for ourselves. While doing the actions that we pledged to do, we learned different things about sustainability that we never knew before. One of the things that I learned was that, at Clemson, it is hard for students who want to recycle to be able to recycle. There are not the necessary facilities nearby our student housing to place our recyclables. I also learned that some actions that should be done to be sustainable are hard to do in the society that we live in. One of these activities that we do is the needless driving that Americans do in general. Since we live in a moving society, it is sometimes hard to do. An easy thing that everyone can do is to recycle some of his or her wastes. This can be done for most people at little or no extra effort than just throwing your trash away.
I had to pick all of it up because I worked for the school and picking their trash up was a waste of my time because we had to mow and weedeat all the schools and field, all together it was 37 acres total that we had to do at least twice a week, so when they create a mess that my
According to Green Eco Services, 75% of Americans admit to littering within the past five years. To decrease the massive amount of littering occurring on our San Diego State University campus, we must inform students and faculty of the repercussions of littering, motivate our peers to end the vicious cycle, and assist when the issue of littering occurs. Littering is an ongoing issue on our San Diego campus. First we are going to talk about background information on littering, and the many negative effects it has on not only our campus, but also the environment. We will follow up with unsuccessful attempts San Diego State has used to try to minimize the amount of littering and then discuss multiple solutions that the University as well as everyone individually can take part in.
Many a time kids are being forced into activities or chores that they do not wish to be a part of. One of the worst being taking out the trash. Just saying the name releases a wave of trauma and fear. Starting at just the age of 11, I was given the task of disposing the waste. After many long years I have composed facts and reasoning for why I should not take out the trash.
Everyone take a look around you and notice all of the things in this room that are recyclable. From the sheets of paper on your desk to the drink containers you are utilizing, whether they be of glass, plastic, or aluminum. (attention-getter)
Thesis Statement: I believe that addressing an envelope is a very important tool not only to write back to friends and family, but is a tool that you will need to succeed in this new adult lifestyle through payments and job applications. For many college students, this is the first time they are away for an extended period. Not only can this be a stressful time for students, it can also be a time of sadness or confusion. Students may miss their family and friends, or they may be stressed at the thought they are now on their own.
Two lunchtimes a week I take part in my school’s Earth Dwellers Recycling Club. I take part in recycling as I feel that I am actually making a difference to the local environment’s current litter pollution issues. By recycling, more pollution is cut down from our school, and hopefully, our school fraternity will look up to our example and perhaps be inspired to do the same in their future years. I also hoped to gain skills such as teamwork, social-skills, and any other to be achieved. The school does not have to pay extra fees to hire garbage collectors within school, so a lot of hard labour and money is saved. This activity only requires some time, effort and consideration from pupils belonging to the school.
Secondly I chose to contact the Student Council because it is a good idea to involve them as they have an important role to play in school and can help us in turning our plans into action. Mrs Semp (head of the student council) said that everybody would be in favour of recycling because its benefits were obvious, saying and that the student council had an interest in the issue of people not putting items in the bin at all, let alone putting it in the right bin. She also replied to my letter saying ‘I also believe, like you, we should think more about recy...
A grocery bag received from a previous visit to Kroger, which I thought would accommodate all the day’s waste. Nevertheless, my calculation of a container needed leaned to the lesser size. Finally, the need for a full size, thirteen-gallon bag from my kitchen to hold all the garbage created during a whole day becomes necessary. At the end of the experience, the trash collected weighed over two pounds. Whereas the overall contents of the plastic sack are insignificant in the broad overview, the collected debris contained mostly advertisement mailings. Instructing the post office not to deliver them will result in no deliveries, but what happens at that

My main goal for my project was to get the businesses and school to start recycling the cans and bottles instead of just throwing them away. I wanted the businesses and school to understand that a single can bottle can take up so much space in the garbage landfills, not decompose and pollute the air we breathe. I also wanted them to see that, they could recycle and start getting equipment such as pens, crates, and even gloves from recycled paper, cans, bottles, and anything else that is recyclable. Lastly I wanted them to see that they could get money for the recyclables and donate to an environmental friendly charity, such as I did. I was able to get the businesses and school to recycle for a whole month but, I don’t see them recycling and sticking to a plan like I did. They just don’t see the importance of recycling.
