I am Andrew a student from SAIS. I need to address a pressing issue that will begin to affect your community soon, unless you take action. I understand you grow palm oil in Malaysia. Palm oil trees are a great source of income, however they may lead to the destruction of your farmlands due to soil erosion. It is necessary for you to take action against soil erosion because without action it will harm you in the future. Your miracle crop that your village relies on for income is the leading cause of your soil erosion issue. Before you land was a palm oil plantation is hosted a complex ecosystem with many different plants. This complex ecosystem protected the land from soil erosion. Now that you have turned the land into a palm oil plantation
the ecosystem is gone. Palm oil trees are unable to hold the soil alone. Soil erosion is also caused by your slash and burn farming style. Burning your lands, while efficient and cheap, weakens the soil and makes it more prone to soil erosion. Soil erosion can cause multiple issues to your community. Soil caught by the wind will pollute your village. Eroded soil is no longer able to host palm oil trees, and will reduce your production in the future. With less stability in the soil your village will be more prone to dangerous flash floods. These effects of soil erosion are and will continue to endanger the sustainability of your plantation and village as a whole unless immediate and decisive action is taken. It is necessary to discontinue your practice of slash and burn farming. Abstaining from burning your palm oil trees will not only allow your soil to recuperate but it will also allow for an ecosystem to grow in you plantations. This aforementioned ecosystem is your main shield against soil erosion. There are difficulties in enforcing the discontinuation of slash and burn farming. In the short term it will increase the necessary manpower and time to replant and new field with palm oil trees. However in the long term it will protect your village from the harmful effects of soil erosion.

1. Initially, I would like to discuss the process of what hydraulic fracturing is and the process that takes place.
Take, for example, that livestock agriculture and the plant-based agriculture specifically used for feeding that livestock utilizes 30 percent of land on Earth. With crops in high demand to feed the many animals that are slaughtered or otherwise used by humans, it's been found that the soil has lost a great deal of its nutritional value and has eroded to the point that, in the United States, nearly 33 percent of topsoil is diminished.
Introduction Palm oil is considered an essential ingredient for the production of foods and other products in which human use. The Orangutan Project (2015) states that ‘palm oil is derived from the fruit of the oil palm tree’, and the ‘palm oil plantations are the main driver for deforestation in Indonesia’. The harvest of the palm trees for the production of palm oil affects the ecosystem as it can affect the environment. This investigation highlights the advantages of the palm fruit providing nutrients, it is essential for the production of products, and this production being that palm oil can reduce poverty. The negatives of how the production of palm oil negatively affects the environment, the habitat of the animals, and social consequences such as the loss of income.

For my “How to do” speech my goal was to share with the class an interesting and informative way to learn something new. Due to the speeches time limit, I knew I needed to be well prepared. I wanted to be less nervous before and during my speech. While presenting I was nervous, but I didn’t really have time for these feelings to sink in because I was focused on the information I wanted to share with the audience. I enjoyed presenting in the second group of speeches so I could see my peers different types of speaking style. The audience seemed alert and interested in my topic which made it a little bit easier for me to speak, because there weren’t any distractions in the room from people not paying attention. I think part of that was because
As many of you may know, 2013 has set the record for the driest year in California history and this drought has continued into 2014.
The study’s methodology was qualitative. While the study recognizes that palm oil plantation increases deforestation and consequently reducing biodiversity, the authors argues that the demand for palm oil up to the year 2020 can be met without any reduction of forest cover through the improvement of yields and conservation of degraded land. In particular, the study notes that while palm oil plantation endangers orangutan’s habitat, the authors suggest that encroachment of orangutan’s habitat could be reduced by up to 30% through the use of sustainable land use initiatives and policies. Overall, the findings of this article suggest that is there is a need to advocate for an environmental sustainable biomass industry in Malaysia in order to protect the natural habitat for
Over the past few years I have grown to be even fonder, through my volunteer work

Hello everyone! Today I will be speaking about global warming but before I begin, how many of you believe that global warming exists and that the human population is the primary cause of global warming? The philosophy of agriculture to live harmony with nature is deeply rooted in ancient agriculture and still practiced in India, China and the Andes. Organic agriculture reflects this philosophy, but the recent history of concepts such as organic, bio dynamic, natural farming and other related concepts, can be traced back to early in the 20th century. Conventional agriculture differ from organic farming in terms of usage of chemical fertilizers which increase the nutrient of the soil, usage of genetically modified seeds for better crop production as well as the use of antibiotics and hormones in animal farming. In Malaysia, the major agriculture crop productions are rice, fruits and vegetables (including palm oil production). China is in the first ranking for agriculture sector followed by India and United States of America. Since organic farming is practiced by many countries, without further ado, let’s take a look on how it can affect the environment and its implementation.
