Zoos have been around for a long time, since 1793 to be exact. They are a good place for families to go to, to enjoy animals that usually don't live near them. In some cases kids can learn and become connected to an animal. But all of this is at a cost, zoos are bad for animals and can often give the animals depression. Zoos are not good for animals and don't meet of of their needs, they need to be shut down or changed.

Animals in zoos often become sad and depressed. In zoos the cages are too small and don't give animals the room they need to live a healthy life. Animals are also sometimes separated or put together, some animals don't do well with others of their kind and others need more animals to be social with. It's not just that though, “Some animals just don't do well in zoos” states Tim Zimmermann a Outside Magazine contributor. Some of the most popular animals in zoos are the ones that do the worst in them and can suffer from depression and eating problems. They way zoos are right now don't fit all the animals needs and the animals can then become sad or unhealthy. Tim Zimmermann said “No matter how natural you can make a cage it's still minuscule compared to its natural environment.” Sure we have lots of stuff that we can do to make the animals feel more like they are at home but no matter what zoos don't really have the room to give them something that the animals can really be fully active in. There are no walls in the wild and that's something that we can't change if we are going to keep the animals contained in zoos. We should try to shift zoos from what they are now to bigger habitats or even national parks. So then they could be right at home and people could still go somewhere to visit the animals they
