What Makes People Change?
What is change? According to the dictionary, change means to make or become different. But what makes people change? Some believe that changing your life shows a lack of self direction. Others believe that it’s important to change things up frequently. One thing to remember about change is that it affects everyone at some point in life. I agree that embracing change is important in a person's life, because if people don’t experience change, how will they grow? This paper discusses some of the catalysts for people to change: leaving your comfort zone, figuring out what matters, acceptance, and overcoming fear.
Leaving Your Comfort Zone
One way to change is by growing your comfort zones. According to Oxford Dictionary,

However, Malala has proven to be fearless. People in her country all have one comfort zone from the culture’s past. Society cannot escape its comfort zone until someone transcends it. Only then, do people grow into their full potential.
Figuring Out What Matters
Another example is in the book, Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom, Mitch grows as a person. Mitch promised to visit Morrie but doesn't come back for years. As Mitch begins regular visits, he sees how Morrie is an respectful friend. He also sees Morrie slowly losing control of his body from his disease. In the end of the book Mitch respects life much more. He values the simple things and doesn’t worry about complex things that can't really be changed. Mitch changes his perspective on life, growing his comfort zones, and decides to follow his passions because life is too short.

When I was 13, I began to get really bad shoulder and neck pain from swimming. I didn’t tell anyone because swimming was my life, my one true passion in life, and I thought if I told people it was hurting me they would make me stop swimming. I kept resisting the fact that it hurt me to swim because I felt it would hurt me even more to stop swimming. The shoulder pain got worse and I told my parents. I began to do physical therapy trying to get it to heal, so I could keep swimming. Eventually it got to the point where it hurt to swim even two laps. I realized and accepted that if I wanted to get better, I had to stop swimming. (tell story about something I make worse by resisting it)As Jim Rohn wisley points out,
Life is like the changing seasons- you cannot change the seasons, but you can change yourself. So the first major lesson in life to learn is how to handle the winters… There are economic winters, social winters and personal winters.
Strength, power and courage was born.” Malala continued to lead activist groups and conferences after being shot. She demonstrates persistence by continuing to speak out about the importance of access to education for women. In her grew courage, bravery and

The journey of Malala’s life has been fighting to get education for young girls of Pakistan. Malala wants to show everyone how valuable girls are and that they don’t need to be hidden away from the public, “My mother always told me,’hide your face, people are looking at you.’ I would reply, ‘it does not matter; I am also looking at them’” (Yousafzai 43). Malala will no longer stand for
Persevering against an old self, that self people are trying to change, will help them achieve their goals.
From our first breath to our last, every person on Earth is in a perpetual state of change. Some of this change is physical, some of it is mental, and all of it is important. One of the most obvious instances of human change is seen throughout adolescence. During this time, both our bodies and our minds change very rapidly, nearly transforming us into completely different versions of ourselves. While it is true that this period of the human life does contains the largest amount of both physical and mental change, it should not be thought of as the only time in our life where change is acceptable. At any other time, though, change is usually looked at as negative. In many texts, when an adult changes, they are usually viewed as fickle or even
Malala’s journey begins in the ordinary world. This is where the heroine is in “a special world, a world that is new and alien to [her]” (Campbell 54). “The hero[ine], uneasy, uncomfortable or unaware, is introduced sympathetically so the audience can identify with the situation or dilemma. The hero[ine] is shown against a background of environment, heredity, and personal history” (Volger). Malala notices that she is born in a society where the males are glorified while the ...

Being shot in the face and seriously injured, did not stop Malala Yousafzai from pursuing her dreams. She did not morally agree with her government’s treatment of women, so she fought for her beliefs. Malala grew up in a rural village in Pakistan and was forced to follow customs she did not believe in. Swat Valley changed to a strictly ruled village with discrimination towards women. Malala created awareness around the world of the situation and stood up for her rights to education. Through Malala Yousafzai’s painful experience with growing up in a dangerous part of Pakistan, she created awareness in hope to regain the rights to educational opportunities for women.
Change is a word that I have constantly heard throughout my high school years. It is a transformation through which everyone goes whether it's for the better or for the worse. For me the meaning and value of change has helped me to focus on the goals I have to accomplish. For others, it is simply just a phase we go through. All of us here have been able to learn and develop from our changes to be come a better and successful person.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
I am adventurous. No I don't sky dive, wrestle crocodiles, or swim with sharks, but when asked by a group of friends to go cliff diving last summer, my best response was, “Sounds like fun!” I had never been afraid of heights yet have never experienced the thrill of cliff diving. All I could ask myself was, “What could go wrong?”
You have a deadline just around the corner. But instead of doing your work you are messing around with miscellaneous things and checking twitter, facebook, instagram, and other social media sites. When doing all of them miscellaneous things you know that you should be working but you just don 't feel like doing any of your work. Most people are very familiar with the term, “ procrastination”. When people like myself procrastinate we waste away all of our free time and put off important assignments and or task until its too late. It may not be “late” but there is usually not enough time to do the assignment or task to the best of your ability. We then panic to get the work done and always wish we had started earlier. For example, I just started my process essay at twelve o 'clock at night,
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
