The Benefits Sports Have on Kids What could you do to prepare your kids for success in the future? Sports are one of the best ways to prepare kids for success in the future for many reasons. According to University of Missouri Health Care, “Sports require memorization, repetition, and learning - skill sets that are directly relevant to class work.”(muhealth). Not only do sports help them become better students, but they also prepare them both mentally and physically and teach them multiple life lessons that will better them in the long run. The great thing about sports is that anyone can participate as long as they have the passion for it. Adapted sports are a great way for kids that are disabled to be able to play against other disabled …show more content…
Ronald Achenbach has been teaching for a total of seventeen years and has been able to help young kids be able to grow and mature (Active). While he was talking to Active Times, he made a comment about having kids set goals, “Setting goals and working toward their attainment creates a drive in kids to succeed that can last a lifetime.”(Active). This is only one example of the millions they will learn as they continue to grow and help them develop into an adult. Some of the more major life lessons kids will learn are accountability, competitiveness, respect, repetition, character, perseverance (active). These skills will all help develop kids into strong leaders for the …show more content…
In contact sports there will be bumps and bruises, but injuries can happen even without sports. If parents will just allow kids to play there sport at their own will then they will never be put in emotional distress, because they are just having fun. Every sport is basically a team sport so there is plenty of kids that will talk to them or interact with one another so kids will be able to make friends without a problem. On team sports there is one common goal they are working for so they all have something in common. Sports will help enhance kids so much with almost everything they will ever need in life, so it is such a great experience for them to go
“Concussion rates for children under the age of 19 who play football have doubled in the last decade, even though the overall sports participation has declined” (Youth Football Concussion Statistics). Football is extremely popular in American culture. Children all across the world love watching and playing the sport. However, many studies have shown numerous possible long term effects of starting the beloved sport when young. Undeveloped brains have a harder time recovering from bumps and blows that occur during playing time. After examining the long term effects of children playing football, it is clear that the tradition of tackle football in youth should be held off until the brain is more fully developed,
Participating in a sport at an early age can be essential to the overall growth process during a child’s upbringing. Whether the participation is through some sort of organized league or just getting together amongst friends and playing, the lessons learned from this can help teach these kids and provide a positive message to them as they develop. There is a certain point, however, when organized sports can hinder progress, which is when adults get too involved and forget about the underlying reason to why they are helping. While adult involvement is necessary, adult involvement can sometimes send the wrong message to children when they try to make participation become more than just about fun and learning. According to Coakley (2009), “organized sports are worth the effort put forth by adults, as long as they do what is in the best interest of their children and put that thought ahead of their own agenda” (Coakley, p. 151). This is a valid argument because once adults put themselves in front of the children and their values, it needs to be re-evaluated as to why they first got involved in the beginning. Partaking in organized sport and activity from a young age can be beneficial to the overall development of children, as long as decisions actions are made in the best interest of the children and not stemming from ulterior motives of adults.
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.
Wake up in the morning, every morning, before the sun has risen. Hit the gym at five in the morning, before long, head to school, and finally precede back to working out and practicing. This is the exhausting day-to-day life of the majority of college athletes. Athletes that spend countless hours working with the result that they can be the best they can possibly be. At their best they make their school millions and millions of dollars and the maximum they can receive out of it, is a free education. College athletes should receive a stipend to play their sport. There is not much of a difference between keeping a college scholarship and keeping a job in a professional sports team, they bring millions of dollars to their school each year, and
It is very hard for kids who do sports to stay on top of sports and school. Kids who play more than
Involving your child in sports is important part of growing up. There are several benefits to children playing sports. The child will learn how to make friends outside of school, church, and family. It will help develop self-esteem and physical skills. They discover what it means to be a member of a team, and how to win and lose with self-respect. Children also need to be active every day; exercise promotes growth and improves physical and emotional health. The Office of the Surgeon General states that active children are at less risk to high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease as well as many cancers (Office of the Surgeon General, January 11, 2007).
College is a huge step that many people take in order to set themselves up for success in the future. From all over the world people with many different goals go to college to learn the necessary skills they need in order to do what it is that they want to do. Whether it’s to be a painter, an actor, or a detective, people go to college to hone their skills to have a lucrative career. Athletics is also one of those things. Many Students go to college in order to properly learn how to advance in the sport that they want to play, or be a professional. While in college you do not usually get paid beyond a scholarship if you are a student. That even goes for Student-Athletes. Student-Athletes was a coined term specifically to show that the Athletes
“Maybe I´m stupid or whatever, but to me if I got a concussion, if I could see straight and carry a football, then I´m not telling anybody”, Ricky Williams, NFL Football player. The argument about whether kids should play football or not is an important topic to argue. People need to understand that the concussions and other injuries are more serious with young kids. The problem is that many people think that it could be stopped by not allowing kids to play at all. Although parents can reduce risk of injury by not allowing their kids to play football, parents should let their children play football because it lets kids follow their dreams, it helps kids become more mature and independant, and if kids use proper technique they can reduce injuries.
Student athletes live very busy lives. A typical school day runs from 8:00-2:30, add in a two- hour practice or game, score a part time job, dive into some family time, a grand slam of homework and catch a little bit of sleep. Students are more stressed due to the many activities they are a part of. This issue affects a lot of people not only in this school district, but most other high schools throughout the country. All student athletes exercise more than other children who are not involved in an extracurricular sport. In school athletics, the players are called “student athletes” meaning that school activities come first. There are strict rules for student athletes, not only on the field but in the classroom as well. In physical education
It 's been outrageous , how many kids get injured per year playing youth sports for school and organizations. The youth who play sports receive plenty medical attention throughout the year due to injuries cause from actions made occuring in games. Health plays a big part in sports because if your are are not healthy many things can go wrong with the body including dehydration, heart problems , and muscle spasm. Playing a sport can be very hard to juggle with school and also getting talked down by coaches and parents. Dehydration is a high possibility because of outside sports that happen in the spring/summer and playing and practicing in humid conditions that you are not well prepared for can be bad and there will be consequences. Parents and
Think of a world where every decision was made entirely by yourself. Think of a world without a government looking out for us and steering us in the direction that is best for us. A World like that would be utter chaos, but we might be closer to it than you may like to believe. Americans like to blame the government for their problems, but in reality they won’t even allow the government to step in and fix simple problems such as obesity in America. Americans would rather refuse help from the government, on the grounds that it takes away from their free will, when it would only take the government 3 steps; regulating the meals of the children in America, Keeping Kids Active, and providing Alternatives to the Fast Foods Restaurants to the General
When a child lacks the natural born talent of athleticism, they can be destroyed emotionally and physically. The 2005 Youth Sports Report Card rated parental behavior and involvement as “unacceptable and needing improvement”(Citizenship Through Sports Alliance,2005). Community sports have “lost their child-centered focus” and has become “too specialized and over interested in parents”(Citizenship Through Sports Alliance,2005). Failing parental expectations, the child will lose any enjoyment felt previously in participation. Their desire to play is diminished, confidence decreases and anxiety overwhelms their innocent minds. Something that was created to add enjoyment and positively influence their life becomes a nightmare that they are unable to cope with. They become humiliated due to inadequately fulfilling their peer 's expectations as well as their
Continuing along this subject line, some teachers however do believe that grading along a curve does not aid students in any way, and rather shouldn 't take place. Kit Richert continues to talk about Dr. Covington when explaining, "Covington believes that every student should have the opportunity to earn an A. This does not mean that they will, but that they have the opportunity to. In his undergraduate psychology classes at UC Berkeley, Covington tells his students that they can all earn As, and that he wants them to focus on interest and love of learning psychology rather than on earning an A." (teaching.monster.com). In doing this, this professor has gone against a system in which grades are dominated, and has rather given his students the
Should students have to take Physical Education every year, or should they have the choice to participate in it or not? Schools are wanting students to take Physical Education every year as a required course. Even though most students probably don’t want to take Physical Education, Physical education should be required for all students because it increases the health for teens, students over exaggerate on the class, and it could boost performance.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
