Do footballers really deserve their wages?
There is always a great debate surrounding this topic. Do footballers really deserve their mammoth paychecks? I mean players at their top of their game like Cristiano Ronaldo earn £274,000 a week which is an incredible £1,631 per hour. Just by the time you have read this Ronaldo has earned around £6.30. It's unreal how much footballers earn and is it really justified?
In reality, we could all live without football even if some wouldn't agree. However we wouldn't last a day without doctors, firefighters and police officers, for example, being there to provide us with help and security the world wouldn't be able to function. Seeing the importance of all these professions is it really justified that football players that don't really affect the world in a great deal earn hundreds of thousands a week and police officers a the top rank earn around £1000 a week. I mean we could all live without football but we couldn't go on without police officers. It's just not justified in any way.
Football is a great thing no doubt about it. It brings so many people from all ages and genders together to support their team. Football can be relaxing to watch and can be exciting to be a part of. If we continue to pay to watch the games then the revenue provided will pay for the

Soldiers, firefighters, police officers, doctors are all around us and we fail to give them our appreciation that they deserve. We should be looking up to them as gods for the deeds they do for us and our country, not some footballer who we have never met and they couldn't care for what we think of them. Our opinions on footballers don't affect them personally and some of them only care about the paycheck at the end of the week. Some footballers don't even have the decency to donate a small percentage of their paycheck to charity which is mind-blowing, to say the
But on the other hand, why should a person that hits or kicks a ball be paid as much as someone who saves lives. AFL players may have all this skill and everything else that some other people do not, but do they have the skill of saving lives on a day-to-day basis like a doctor does? Or do they have the skill of teaching children how to read and write like a teacher does? Yes, doctors are paid more but they do more as far as other people’s lives are concerned.
Players do not deserve the money they receive. There are people who do much more than the players do. Why do teachers not get paid millions of dollars to teach kids? Some of those kids end up going on to become professional athletes. Police officers and firemen risk their lives to keep people safe and most of them do not even make any more than 95 thousand dollars a year (Megerian). These athletes get fined more money than that and hand it over like someone just asked them for one dollar. Players have all of this money and do not even do anything worth earning it. Why do they get this money? It is because fans value athletes more than the important things in life like education and family.
There has been an extensive debate over the years about college athletes being paid and I honestly don’t see why there is a debate about it at all. The NCAA has strict rules about players receiving benefits from the school in forms of helping players and their families in the form of paychecks or even helping pay bills. College sports bring in an enormous amount of money for the schools every year and are expected to be given nothing in return. Sports do not only bring in money to schools but also more students and fans. The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) have taken several players’ records and rewards from them for the simple fact of getting benefits from the school and that is just not acceptable (Allen 115). Athletes are just like every other student in the way of having to pay for housing, food, bills, and more. Having to balance school and sports gives athletes no time to have jobs which means they do not have a way to bring in money to pay for the essentials of going to
Do athletes get overpaid? Is it fair that the average NFL player gets paid 1.9 million dollars a year while the average heart surgeon gets paid 533 thousand dollars annually? I think that professional athletes don’t get paid too much. There are multiple reasons that proves that their pay is not excessive. Their careers are short, they risk their body for our entertainment, and they motivate children.
Changes can be made to try to make the sport safer, but as time goes on players will continue to get bigger and stronger, and we can’t change the fact that it is a full contact sport. Injuries will be inevitable, some will be minor and others can be fatal. Is a human life worth less than money or entertainment? Players risk the chance of a healthy future every time they step on the field. The human body is not made to take that continuous and ferocious impact game after game. Many players sell themselves short while putting their bodies in harm’s way which increases their probability of health complications down the road. If the violent aspect of the game is not addressed, it will negatively impact the future of players and the sport. Hopefully, the studies and research that is made public can somehow find a way to make the game safer for the players. Until that day comes, football is much too dangerous and not worth the
Athletes are being paid hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars to entertain us. They work less hours than the average person and make considerably more. Athletes all around the world are paid handsomely because they are talented and have extensive knowledge of their sport. But, is that knowledge and talent really worth what they are earning every season? Compared to some of the most common and needed professions are athletes really earning their paychecks? It’s time to take a deep look into what requirements besides natural ability athletes really need? How many hours are they expected to put in a week and what their job really is.
Football is more than just a contact sport. What are often disregarded are the benefits that come from the game. The life lessons that young players learn when playing this game are irreplaceable. It molded me a young man into a wholesome human being. One who applies what he learned in football to the outside world. Football has taught me a lot about myself as well as responsibilities in the work
Do you think professional athletes are overpaid? You might think they earn more than what they are worth for playing half a year, but athletes have many things which contribute to their salary. Some of these things include their earnings from endorsements, ticket sales, performance, merchandise, their social contributions, and TV ratings. Although there are many factors that contribute to their salary, professional athletes may be overpaid because as a society, we contribute to their success. So, in the end, part of the athlete’s salary comes from the people who support the sports in the first place. These are just some of the reasons why athletes are paid so much money.
Football is all about money. Money is football. On the other hand, there is a case to be made for money having a positive effect on football. Some may argue that English football – not to mention the British economy – has benefitted hugely from the cash that has flowed into the game from commercial interests in the form of sponsorship, broadcasting rights and merchandising. If it was looked at as a normal business most people including football fans would likely be lauding the success of the Premier League which would be a massive business success.
The NFL need to improve their safety on players that play in the NFL. Also for the men that play in the NFL and take all them hits they deserve more money then what they get. Most players in the NFL catch brain disease once they leave the NFL. Also most NFL players go broke when they retire out the NFL. NFL players get on drugs while they in the NFL which hurts them when they retire. The NFL has bad effects on the players of the game during and after there career.
Playing football is not P.E. but it’s a job (listland.com). The NCAA has modernized to take full advantage of the new kinds of media. It takes around $11 billion dollar every year (jstor.com). Even though money is going around them, the players receive nothing (uwiretext.com) It’s being given to the industry. The NCAA says, “It is their tradition” (NCAA.com) If football players were paid, it would teach the financial responsibilities. Under the new college football playoff system, the five power conferences will make a minimum of fifty million dollars each. (prezi.com). The money can also persuade people to stay in school and risk their life by putting it on the line. Crime rates will slightly decline because of the percentage of people who play football but corruption reducing.
Once again, after a successful season, Shadle Park was defeated by a Big 9 school in the first game of the regional tournament. This reoccurring event has led many to believe that the four year football program puts GSL students at a disadvantage compared to other districts. A junior high school football program would not only increase the competitiveness of the students but also have more important consequences.
When addressing the value of entertainment, there is without a doubt, that we as a society value entertainment highly. But there is no reason that these athletes, who are here to merely entertain us, get paid higher wages than those that save our lives and teach us such as medical doctors and teachers. I find it ridiculous that players make millions of dollars a year, and yet demand more. The entertainment that these athletes provide is solely entertainment; it is not essential to the function or productivity of society. If I were to become a professional football player I would not complain about my salary for many reasons. I am playing the sport that I love and getting paid for it. The minimum wage for football is well over $100,000 a year, as is for many professional sports. These reasons by their lonesome are enough to warrant that the salary professional athletes are paid is suffice.
Sport has always entertained and influenced our lives. It creates dreams for children and goals for adults. However, many fans are oblivious to the millions they pocket each year. It is without doubt that our sports stars are grossly overpaid. Their annual earnings exceed those we make in a lifetime, even when compared to highly qualified professionals.
Firstly, I think that entertainers’ athletes are paid so much because they deserve it. An actor isn’t going just wake up one day and say, “I think I’m going to be an A-list act...
