STATE COLLEGE TUITION Do you or your kids plan to go to college? Can they afford it? Your kids may not be able to attend college because some students want to further their education, but cannot afford it. A lot of students have the grades and test scores that meet the requirements, but still cannot afford the tuition. Therefore, state college tuition should be free. An Edward Jones survey finds that 83% of Americans say they cannot afford the expenses of a college education. That’s over half, it’s really a huge amount. For example, on CBS News, David Nguyen, a student in Michigan had a 30 on the ACT and a 3.9 cumulative GPA. Secondly, think about student loans and debt, they follow you for the rest of your life. In recent years, google showed 70% of students have graduated with student loans. The average grad holds $37,172 in student debt. The newspaper reported that Jennilee John, from New Orleans, took out over $60K in federal student loans to pay for her masters in nursing. After school for ten years she worked non-profit to pay off her student loans. That’s a lot of years to work without getting paid. No one should have to go through not knowing how they are going to take care of themselves because student loans has drained every paycheck they’ve received and sucked their bank account dry. Lastly, many students need college degrees to find a decent job. The most common jobs you can get without a college diploma are truck driving, cooking, and hair styling; unless you’re a celebrity. For example, you don’t want to be 45 working at Burger King. Ironically, Drake, ditched his owned high school to play a high school student on the show, “Degrassi.” He only dropped out because he was making money and knew he couldn’t afford college at the time.
