One of the most interesting, yet potentially destructive advancements in modern day science is that of virtual reality. Virtual reality is a synthetic life-like experience for any passerby to dissolve into. At the present time, virtual reality is limited to aiding in the construction of safety measures for products, video gaming, simulated thrill experiences, and other quirky pastimes that a pair of goggles and other sensory additions can supply. However, soon enough this technology could very well advance into more sophisticated experiences for more than just cheap entertainments and manufacturing. Allow the following question to guide virtual reality: why would anyone trade total control of reality for uncontrollable factors strewn together? With this in mind, a simple white collar worker could toil all day with a bitten tongue to go home and immerse himself in all of his own desires, which is harmless at first, but what does that imply for human relations? That man, that very individual who uses virtual reality as an escape from day to day life never needs to make a friend or delve into the realm of intimacy. A lustful lover could simply throw their partner to the side and fully embrace another person in virtual reality until the person they “love” is nothing more than physical flesh. One would be pained to see a lonesome lover watch their other make love to a virtual being over themselves, an opportunity opened by virtual reality to fulfill all instincts of the human mind. On the other hand, how would one feel to see another murder in a fantasy, violate, become omnipotent and far, far more in a fabricated reality? Morals are strewn together by a societal likeness of mind as to what is right and wrong, but that would not be needed if there was a way for people to live out dull life in the tangible world, live their life in the intangible, and sleep to reset the
