Informs in Public Schools School uniforms has come up many times in debates in schools around the United States. Many say that uniforms will solve problems in the schools while others say that uniforms violate freedom of speech. The National Association of Elementary School Principals did a study of all the schools across the country and “revealed that one out of five (21 percent) public, private and parochial school principals had either instigated a uniform policy, were currently writing one, or had it on their agenda for consideration. With so many schools and school districts adopting school dress policies, it is important to understand why so many have chosen to do so” (Daniels). Uniforms need to be enforced in all public schools around It is one of the Ten Commandments that God made everyone equal. So today, why is it that so many people are not all treated the same? This is a huge problem at school all across the United States. One solution to this is to enforce not just a dress code, but uniforms. Haynes article states that “even kids who don’t know much about the First Amendment or current law know a lot about ‘free speech’” and argue that uniforms violate the First Amendment (Haynes). One source says, “Many students simply do not like wearing uniforms. They complain that uniforms take away their individuality” and they “are unflattering or uncomfortable” (“School Uniforms”). Although students may be upset that they are required to wear uniforms and they do not like the way they look in them, they must understand why they are being enforced. Uniforms affect more than the appearance of the students. It also effects the inside of students and how they feel as Shelly Marsh, a principal from Johnston County School says, “‘Students ' attitudes are different according to their dress’” (Daniels). It is very important that students think highly of themselves. If they have confidence in themselves, they are going to behave and perform better in school. In Stephen Daniels article he states that “Schools with uniforms say that their students have better self-esteem because without the name brand clothing on display, the students are placed on an equal level. Poorer students do not feel and are not treated as inferior because they don 't have nice clothes” (Daniels). Since public schooling is welcome to students from all backgrounds, it is important that everyone is treated with the same respect. Not only is it important that no one is put down, it is also important that there in organization.
