Although this act was put into place, and women made advances in the workplace, it has not been very effective with the pay gap. Females still do not make equal salaries as men, and the act has been in place for 52 years. When families, or individuals are at or below the poverty line, they do not receive the government help they need, and should be getting. In the study that was done by Son and Bauer, the mothers were eligible for government assistance, but they were not necessarily receiving it. Financial help from the government includes child care subsidies, food stamps, or Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) subsidies (109).
