Imagine a group of students who are stranded on an island by the Pacific because their plane crashed when they were coming back from a trip ,without rules or any adults, and how they lose their innocence and be taken over by darkness. The book, “Lord of the Flies,” by William Golding is about a group of British school boys surviving on an island without rules. The boys will try to survive by being rescued or simply by just becoming savages. One of the main characters, Jack went through many changes, starting from the beginning of the book to the ending. Jack, the most obvious leader since he was natural at being chief, starting off as a British choir boy to a savage hunter. Jack’s first instinct in survival was killing a pig for meat and the beastie as well. As they were hunting for more pigs, the found a big fat sow. The sow was pregnant and got startled when they stabbed her from behind. Jack and the other boys started chasing her, following the tracks of her blood and her squeals for mercy. When they were hunting her the began chanting “kill the beast, cut its throat, bash her in!” The sow was cornered in a field where butterflies danced and the weather was always warm. Jack got on top of the sow and sliced her neck and told Roger to get a stick with both ends sharpened. The head of the sow was torn off and Jack placed the stick where near a crack so, it would be able to keep in place. “A gift for the beast,” said Jack as he was placing the head of the sow on the stick. This quote shows that Jack wants protection. He believes that if he leaves a gift for the beastie then it won’t bother them anymore. The head stood there as if it was smiling directly at you with flies around him and dark liquid coming out. Once he finished placing, Jack and the other boys ran off to make a feast and
