Who loves watching the Winter Olympics? Is one of your favourite sports to watch men’s hockey? It may no longer be so because in the 2018 Winter Olympics, all NHL players are not allowed to participate. Professional hockey players from the NHL should be able to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics. The reasons why they should be able to participate is because NHL players are athletes just the same as others and should be able to represent their country with pride, without the NHL players they may lose many profits and the benefits are greater than the risk of the players going to the NHL. To begin, the NHL players should be able to represent their country in the winter olympics. To commence, NHL players are essentially normal athletes, …show more content…
First of all, a reason the NHL isn’t letting the players go is because there’s the risk of the players getting injured. In the end, every game the players play, there’s always the risk of injury, let it be the All-stars, World cup, even the regular season and preseason games, and the Olympics are just as important as these games, so the risk of injury should not decide whether or not the NHL players are allowed to go. In addition, since ratings in South Korea aren’t that high, the NHL’s marketing wouldn't be as effective as previous years. Though the NHL is technically a company, it should not base it’s decisions through profits and should let the NHL players go to the winter Olympics. At last, the NHL has not considered how the letting the players go could really profit the players. The players could really profit from going to the Olympics because it’s let them get out of the country and they met different players and it makes them happy. If they don’t let them go the players may not be as willing to play for the NHL and that may cause the game to drop in skill and effort. If that happens the NHL could lose profit from fans no longer wanting to watch the

Fortunately for the NHL, they had/ have the Chicago Blackhawks, the Franchise to bring hockey back. The Chicago Blackhawks started the 2012-2013 series with a 24 point streak, meaning that they went 24 games with at least 1 point gained in each game. As many people don’t pay attention until the season has hit 20 or so games, the Hawks, had come to break the lockout of that particular attention span causing more attention towards not only the NHL , but for the Blackhawks themselves. As fans joined the progressing bandwagon, the NHL was gratefully coming out of the “drought” with numourus sponsorships with companies, and gaining profit from their
Nowadays in sports especially in hockey we see a lot of athletes come from across seas to play on Canadian and american hockey teams. Some of these players are premier athletes and
After comparing and contrasting the National Hockey League rules and USA Hockey league rules, I think I prefer USA Hockey rules because the game focuses more on the development part of the game where NHL games focus more on pleasing the crowd, and politics are not involved in USA Hockey...to a point. Hockey is a great game that can be played almost anywhere there is ice, and it gives people many lessons in life. So next time you watch a NHL game, think about how it is only to please the crowd and a USA game is to have fun and learn the game more thoroughly.

Ice hockey, a sport that has been in existence for over two hundred years, has become a fan favorite across the globe. From Canada to Sweden, you will be able to find some of the best ice hockey players in the world; both male and female. This pastime has instilled a unique tradition throughout the years of its practice by a combination of both physical skill and mental strength. Although it did not provide aid to globalization, it has created a worldwide culture that many people are proud to be a part of. Since its inception until now, there has been a great deal of gender stereotyping concerning the sport. Regardless, ice hockey will continue to be a lucrative market, as well as a cherished hobby for many years to come.
Before the 1980 Winter Olympics began, the US Olympic hockey team was not expected to do as well as they did. They had many powerhouse teams to beat and the team was just a bunch of college kids who wanted to play hockey. In the end, they had performed one of the greatest upsets in the history of hockey by defeating the USSR, the whom many thought of as the greatest hockey team in the world.
In 1990 women’s hockey had its first World Championship. Team Canada was made to wear pink jerseys as described in Hockey: A People’s History which showed a clear difference in the opinions of men playing versus women, as the women did not get to wear the red and white that the men wore to represent their country. However, this was still an important step. Men’s hockey was introduced to the Olympic Games in 1920. Women’s hockey was not included until 1998. It took 78 years for female hockey players to get to the same level on an international scale that men had been welcomed to. Olympic competition is arguably the best of the best; as countries send their most successful athletes to compete against the best from countries that they may not have the opportunity to play against in regular competition. While it may have taken many years, the introduction of women’s hockey into the Olympics was a clear display of the legitimization of the game. Thanks to the addition, many girls in Canada and around the world have had more exposure to women playing hockey. Especially for Canadian’s, seeing Team Canada dominate so frequently on the world stage has helped the growth of the game for women and has helped with the acceptance of female
When you think of hockey, you would think of people getting in fights or skating. To even play hockey you need to skate well enough to protect yourself from other people. Theses skates are 2.9 mm or 0.115 inches thick, skating is more tiring than running and they require different muscles. You have to be tough enough to take hits, block shots, or someone hitting you with a hockey stick. The puck you play with is 1 in thick and 3 inches in diameter. You have to hit the puck with a hockey stick, the blade is 12.5
People can brake a bone walking down the street, hockey is not any different. In youth
“The NHL (national hockey league) is not in the business of comforting people, they’re in the business of entertainment, and if fighting represents a way to differentiate themselves from an entertainment stand point, then fighting isn’t going anywhere” In the 2014-15 season 1,230 games were played, and out of those games 391 fights were in action. 29.91% of games had fights, 45 games had more than one fight. Taking fighting out of the game of hockey is too big of a risk. I think the fans will be disappointed and the entertainment level will go way down. In my paper I’m going to write about why fighting in hockey should stay and why people think it should also.
The Western Hockey League was a big factor for the NHL. They were considering competing for the Stanley Cup. This made the NHL react quickly. The NHL dec...

The Canadian interest in Hockey as well as the entertainment it gives to people makes it the worthiest of all sports.
As population continually increases in the Southern states, the NHL is moving teams into large Southern cities. In an effort to increase profits and popularity, the NHL has increased the number of teams in the league and moved into Southern cities that have never had hockey teams before. The problem is that hockey is not as popular in the South as it is in the North. This expansion in the South has lead to huge monetary losses to Southern teams and very low attendance numbers. The NHL should not have expanded the league into Southern cities and should keep NHL teams farther North.
