Employment Insurance is something the rest of the world thrives over their work employment but it’s also something the U.S. does not have all the privileges. For most people in the U.S., employment insurance to them seems to be given to those who already have jobs and don’t really the benefit to aid them. But as soon as they see someone with no job, no benefits, and no privilege simply asking out for people to benefit to the sick and unemployment, they’re automatically deemed as “greedy” or “lazy” for their poor life style. Most people feel like not everyone should be given the benefits that they were born into simply by money, knowing not every American was born in middle-higher class families. So why should we give them benefits? Simply, …show more content…
Plus, were not talking about anyone in the hospital and/or giving birth. Let’s talk about the people that have or need these benefits in their lives as worker. Regular benefits will help lower income families and help them if the face unemployment, tight job findings, and minimum wage jobs. Benefits for the unemployed will help people facing homelessness, being hungry, and poverty. So by providing these benefits to these people, this county won’t look like a land of lost hope. Tight job offers in this economy are very much a real thing and is also providing evidence that benefits are needed in these situations. It will also help provide even more jobs suitable for those in need. Basically saying going to college won’t always help with what job you want, but something else needs to happen more in order to get that job you want, so benefits will happen. “Closure of several steel operations in recent months left more than 1,000 workers jobless temporarily…” says Karlee Weinmann (1). The Insurance for minimum wage is especially an important topic to discuss. People have to work two or more jobs just to earn their quota for money to pay bills and so forth, which could be agony of people and stress could pull a toll on them. These benefits could be the key to an easy, stress free life of no complications. People will understand that this also applies to being in school while working or even dropping out …show more content…
Knowing that half of this country is oppressed by the thought of this ever happening because since they already deem us as lazy, dumb, or poor because apparently you need to bore into a rich lifestyle to have that privileged life because all you needed was money to get by in this country. So that in thought, the benefits that may be provided to you or to any lower class citizen will help this problem of no one having the right to feel safe for themselves, their family, and their co-workers. The modern America is a growing problem with this work ethic and privileged status, so by that we need to stop and give this country equal opportunity no matter their social status or job occupation
Why should we be the ones to pay for someone to sit around at home? The answer is one simple word, welfare. There are many reasons why people mooch on welfare, rather than going out and working. The only jobs these people are qualified for are minimum wage jobs. As Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickel and Dimed, worked at minimum wage paying jobs and reported the hardships that people had to go through on a day-to-day basis. A critic responded by saying, “This is simply the case of an academic who is forced to get a real job…” Ehrenriech’s reasoning for joining the working-class is to report why people who mite be on welfare, continue to stay on welfare. Her reports show there are many hardships that go along with minimum waged jobs, in the areas of drug abuse, fatigue, the idea of invisibility, education and the American Dream.
In today’s America, there are many people who would either be disgusted at the very mention of Welfare or be highly grateful for its existence. I believe that in order for welfare to be more effective in America, there must be reform. From the time of its inceptions in 1935, welfare has lent a helping hand to many in crisis (Constitution Rights Foundation). However, at present many programs within the system are being abused and the people who are in real need are being cheated out of assistance. The year after the creation of welfare unemployment was just about twenty percent (Unemployment Statistics). The need for basic resources to survive was unparallel. Today, many people face the same needs as many did during the 30s. Some issues with
It is important for people that they have to leave the labor force when they would actually like to carry on in their jobs, supporting the retraining of older workers, helping people with young children stay employed, changing disability rules so that partially disabled people can work while receiving some benefits and through many other policies. Doing this is not only good for the economy, but would prove popular too by giving people jobs who want them. Few people leave work due to health or other conditions. (Sanderson,
The United States spends vast amounts on its healthcare, while falling short of achieving superiority over other developed nations. One cannot overlook that the deepening recession has left many without jobs and therefore lacking health insurance. According to Fairhall and Steadman, (2009), even though the recession is hard on all, it is worse on the uninsured due to health care and insurance cost rising faster than incomes. Nevertheless, even those with jobs are lacking in health insurance due to employers, who provide insurance, are increasingly dropping their sponsored insurance. Many find that purchasing a health policy or paying for medical care out-of-pocket is cost prohibitive. “Since the recession began in December 2007, the number of unemployed Americans has increased by 3.6 million,” (Fairhall & Steadman, 2009). In 2009 it was stated that approximately 46 million Americans were uninsured, however not all of that number is due to the inability to afford coverage. According to a 2009 story written by Christopher Weaver of Kaiser Health News, 43% of that number should be classified as “voluntarily” uninsured. This subset of uninsured Americans consist of nearly half being young and healthy; therefo...
As part of the Affordable Care Act, beginning this year Medicaid will expand eligibility to include all uninsured individuals under the age of 65 whose incomes fall at or below 138 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, or about $32,500 for a family of four. However, the 2012 Supreme Court ruling that upheld the law also allowed states more flexibility concerning what parts of the ACA they can implement and said that those same states would not lose federal funding for their existing programs. This result would leave the decision to opt out of the law's provision into the hands of state legislators. While twenty-six states have chosen to expand healthcare coverage, twenty-one states have not and four have yet to make a decision. The state of Florida is among those not seeking to expand coverage and that decision alone could cost Florida millions of dollars a year in tax penalties. As conservative and liberal state lawmakers square off into a maelstrom of debate over whether Medicaid should cover more people, thousands of uninsured Floridians will be caught in the crossfire.
Until Obama-care, The United States was one of the only developed nations that did not provide some sort of health care for its citizens. To most other nations that do provide healthcare, it is because it is considered a human right that all people should be entitled to. That hasn’t been the case in America, however, where only those who could afford it could have healthcare plans. Those who stand to gain the most from universal healthcare are the already mentioned 45 million americans who currently don’t have any form of healthcare. For many of these individuals, there are many obstacles that prevent them from gaining healthcare. 80% of the 45 million are working class citizens, but either their employer doesn’t offer insurance, or they do but the individual can n...
The healthcare reform debate has been politicized in the United States for many years where there have been deliberate efforts by various stakeholders to ensure that they push for the reforms that are in line with the cost-benefit aspects that they have already envisioned. In this paper, I will attempt to prove that the reforms that have been witnessed in the healthcare in the recent years have not been effective and helpful to the society as a whole. When President Obama came into office, he promised to oversee great reforms in the healthcare which is his government he face much priority in the social policy aspects. The congress managed to pass the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).
...ican welfare system has many flaws and I have identified major problems and possible solutions/policy recommendations. We can’t completely dismiss government assistance because we are a land of the equality of all and should be proud to have services that help the less fortunate. However, we must identify people who misuse and people who become too comfortable. We can’t continue to fall deeper into debt by supporting people who are not making an effort to support themselves. Nonetheless, we should help and assist those who are constantly trying to become educated, skilled, and experienced enough to become self-sufficient. I will close with a quote from the article about welfare helping a lady survive while she was studying. Currently she has a degree and a job as a manager. “I had clear goals,” “I wasn’t raised to sit at home expecting a check to come in the mail.”
The Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, is a new health policy created by the American federal government. Its purpose is to make healthcare more affordable and friendly for the people. Unfortunately in some way that does not prove to be the case. It is becoming apparent that Obama may have made some misleading statements to help get the ACA put into action. The ACA is sprinkled with many flaws that call for a reform such as people’s current plans being terminated, high costs, and at minimum some people’s hours being cut by their employers.
A $15 minimum wage will not supply Americans with the change they desire. We catch sight of homeless people on the streets and moms struggling to provide and cannot help to be inspired to lend out a hand and find a solution. The problem is that we need an efficient and non-detrimental way to help people who continue struggling to make ends meet. However, raising the minimum wage to the proposed $15 an hour will not fix the empty stomachs nor pay the unpaid rent. A $15 minimum wage will not work in America for the reason that it will affect further more than just the minimum wage workers, it forces businesses to create loopholes to avoid a downfall and it will change the way we perceive work.
The United States of America is supposed to be the greatest nation on earth. We are supposed to celebrate freedom and praise equality. We are all supposed to have the opportunity to live a nice, long, wonderful life. There are quite a few problems that make the above difficult, to say the least.
Universal health care is medical insurance provided to all the residents of a country by their government. Out of all the major industrial countries, The United States is the only country without a universal health care system. In 2010, President Barack Obama signed a health care reform law making it illegal to be uninsured in America, which is a major step towards it. Universal Health Care should be mandatory in America because it gives everyone an opportunity to receive more equal care, the overall health of the population would increase and current insurance plans are unaffordable for many Americans.
Public assistance is a fair and non-discriminating form of assistance offered to whom qualifies for it. The open support is for those who need it, or those who pay taxes for others to apply it to what the individual is in need of. Social Welfare is a disposal program that gives cash, medical insurance, beneficial consideration, provisions, housing, and different things that individuals require so as to endure life disadvantages. Individuals who can get assistance from these welfare projects are children, older folks, disable, and other people who can 't help their families on their current salary. At first it worked primarily to provide federal grants to the states to maintain mothers with dependent children. The program works with individuals
I didn’t realize that the social factor was actually a big deal. People that only have a high school degree are eight times more likely to depend on public assistance programs unlike college graduates. I think that not depending on public assistance is good. We do not need everyone living off of welfare. We need more people getting a college degree and wanting to work as well. “For every female high school student who goes on to attend college, society saves $48,600 over her lifetime. For every African-American male who goes on to finish college instead of dropping out of high school, society saves $294,000” (Top 10…). Since the female decided to attend college she is getting a better education and won’t be living on public assistance and the society saves a lot of money. If everyone went to college the society could save so much more money.
This makes it more difficult for families to get back on their feet when they’re struggling with employment and economic hardships. I plan on hiring disadvantaged patients to perform simple duties around my office, in order to receive free office visits or a salary. This means that healthcare would be one less bill they would have to worry about. If the patient choses to have a salary, I will put 25% of their salary into a bank account for them. This money would build up over time, and eventually the money would be theirs. By providing these patients with employment opportunities, they will be able to afford healthcare as well as have financial
