Recommended: Positive and negative impacts of raising the minimum wage

A $15 minimum wage will not supply Americans with the change they desire. We catch sight of homeless people on the streets and moms struggling to provide and cannot help to be inspired to lend out a hand and find a solution. The problem is that we need an efficient and non-detrimental way to help people who continue struggling to make ends meet. However, raising the minimum wage to the proposed $15 an hour will not fix the empty stomachs nor pay the unpaid rent. A $15 minimum wage will not work in America for the reason that it will affect further more than just the minimum wage workers, it forces businesses to create loopholes to avoid a downfall and it will change the way we perceive work. Lets put this into perspective. I go to school for several years and pay thousands of dollars to get a degree so that I can have a decent paying job. A majority of entry level jobs with some type of specialized training start at a pay anywhere from $10-$19. I start working for a company in an entry-level position and they offer me $14 an hour. I take the job considering it’s a plesant way to get a foot in the door and my previous job only paid me $7.50. I doubled my pay, but I knew this wasn’t going to be my lifelong standard of pay. I have worked for a few months and one morning as I watch the news I hear that all minimum wage workers are now required to be paid a minimum of $15. I realize that since I make twice the amount of the minimum wage that I don’t qualify as being in a minimum wage position. I still bring in less than the minimum wage workers now and I get angry and question the reasoning for all the hard work I suffered through to get to where I am. My boss doesn’t want to lose all of his workers so he has to raise all of his worker’s pay to the new ratio.
