If you have never owned an electric blanket, you really don't know what you are missing! If you have a large comfy bed, get yourself a king size electric blanket that will keep you toasty during the cold winter nights. Electric blankets are perfect for cold the weather areas of the country where if you heat your house all night, you can really run up your utility bill. If you have an electric blanket, you don't have to heat the entire house just to keep warm at night. This makes a lot more sense to save money than heating up all the rooms at night. Why would you want to spend a few dollars every day to heat your entire home at night, when it would only cost you pennies every night for the blanket and it will still keep warm all night. Then you can have your bedspread, comforter or anything else on top of the blanket. Sometimes when you have poor insulation in the house as we did as kids, or it's simply very cold, putting a sheet on top of the electric blanket will keep more of the heat in, in other words you create a sandwich with the blanket in between two top sheets. The best electric blankets will only take about 10 minutes to heat up, and many of them have timers you can set to come on by itself before bedtime. As with most of the electric blankets I've owned, the electric wires embedded in the blanket can be felt, but this is normal and is nothing to be concerned about. If you still are unsure about buying an electric blanket, here are just a few things to consider. You can save money, and the cost of the blanket will come back to you within a matter of a few months as you can keep the temperature in the house down further at night. If it gets colder during the night, you simply turn the dial up and you will stay warm all night, no matter what the outdoor temperature is. Getting into your bed each night will always be warm and toasty. One last thing, and you will be saving energy which should be important to everyone
According to Jason, “costs would fall if people adopt new energy-efficient technologies without a price hike in energy” (Shogren, 2004). A study done by Jaffe and his colleagues concluded that 20-25% of existing carbon emissions can be eliminated if people switched to fluorescent light bulbs, improved thermal insulation, more efficient heating and cooling systems (Jaffe, Newell, & Stavins, 2003). It all comes down to the consumers. Some of the energy efficient technologies are readily available but are still expensive. The driving force to efficient-energy technology depends on the changes of relative price. People will not want spend money on newer appliances especially if the prices are high, and if their current one still functions.
...also save energy by using motion censoring for doors and sinks. The dining rooms and foyers should have dim-able light switches. Another way to save a lot of energy is to make a master switch at the front door that turns off all lights. That way you never leave a light on when you aren't at home. You should use natural gas cook tops and ovens to cut down on electricity.
...t when I fall asleep with the television on I am wasting electricity and causing more pollution to the environment due to the wasting of energy. Also it is bad because it costs you an average of 6 dollars more a month on electricity. To change this habit I could try sleeping with the television off or even use the hibernation option on the television. To fix this issue I will most likely just always put the hibernation option on every time I watch television right before I go to bed. This way if I fall asleep the television will still shut off after the amount of time set runs out. To make this fix I will see if my television has the hibernation option. Most of today’s televisions do have an option which allows you to choose when the television will turn off. Allowing me to save 6 dollars a month on my electricity bill and also help save on the United States energy.
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
Sweaters are the most sought-after clothing item during the winter season. There is a wide range of alpaca sweaters available in the market as well as online stores. Alpaca sweaters offer numerous styles including long and short sleeves, crewneck, turtleneck and v-neck. Alpaca cardigans are also available in varying styles and colors. All these clothing items are tailored to fit and ensure maximum warmth and comfort as well as a stylish look.
To be honest, there is still much that needs to be learned about the security blanket and the role that it may play in the development of the child. Does it cause the child to be independent, or does it simply allow them to deal with a stressful situation better? That is yet to be determined, but one thing is certain, blankets and lovies are popular among children and that is not likely to change anytime soon.
Purchasing a car is one of the hugest or biggest accomplishments that a person can achieve on their own. However, what happens when that purchase turns out to also be the worst decision that was ever made? The purchase was a success and a goal was achieved, but the moment the key is turned and the engine is started the contribution to environmental harm begins. As the car is driven, the gasoline fumes that are released from the car contribute to the other many factors and pollutants that damage the environment. Not only is the purchase now a contributor to the depletion of clean air, but it could also play a part in the depletion of someone’s health. For example, asthma or bronchitis could develop in an adult or child as a direct result of breathing in noxious automotive fumes. Depending on where one lives, there could be strict regulations on air pollution. One must be accountable for any and all contributions made to the demise of what was once a healthy Earth. One must be accountable for his or her own carbon footprint. Some individuals have taken steps to reduce their carbon footprints and cause less harm to the environment by purchasing electric cars.
Climate change. The two letter word so feared by scientists, so ignored by the average human being. What is it that makes scientists fear this phrase so much? For the concept of “climate change” has been seen throughout the history of the earths existence. For centuries, our climate has fluctuated through increasing and decreasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide and climatic cycles. So what is the big deal? The problem, and the reason why this concept instills fear directly into the core of scientists is the rate at which over the past 1,300 years atmospheric carbon dioxide levels have risen. This unnatural increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide, due to the immense amount of anthropogenic burning of oil and coal, affects the transfer
Our country is currently suffering energy-wise, we have been powering with inefficient sources for years now and the harm that it is doing to the country has started to become apparent. Renewable energy is the only way to stop, or at the very least set back the inevitable downfall of our ecosystem. I think that the next big breakthrough for renewable energy is implementing off-grid communities that use renewable sources as their main sources of power, so that we can potentially escape the energy rut that we got ourselves stuck in.
Solar thermal energy is not the best way to heat your home and hot water because it is a very inefficient system. For example Martin Holladay from Green Building Advisor suggests that solar thermal energy is inconsistent. During the long days of summer more hot water is produced than what is needed. But during the dark, cold winter there is not enough hot water (parag. 6-9). This demonstrates that this method of heating is inconsistent and unreliable. During the winter when you need the heat the most, you will not have it. Plus in the summer, when hot water is not needed as much, hot water is produced in large amounts but there is no way to store it for a long time period which makes the system inefficient. As Michael Wolfe states “Devices cannot generat...
While being made out of cheap acrylics, even if it's from a designer with high price points - simply teach yourself to say no.Also quite often, coats that are advertised as "wool" are only some tiny percent wool, and in reality turn out to be consisting of more than 80% nylon and spandex. Keep in mind, that no polyester will keep you warm in a snow storm, and it also gives your sweat a really funky feet smell. Make sure you're buying a thing made to last, especially if you're getting to spend a sum.
It has been proven that an effective, environmental landscape design can cool your home in summer and warm it in winter. Energy efficient landscaping can actually reduce your energy costs by up to 20%, according to the Plants for Clean Air Council” (Benefits of Gardening).
...e comfort is absolutely necessary. Slippers are an added bonus, but socks will do. Slipper socks are fabulous, as they can be worn under the extra blankets. If you have long hair, it must be put up in a pony tail.
There are various ways which one can space heat their house. The most common way is to use a furnace, however, stoves, fireplaces, electric resistance heaters and electrically powered heat pumps can also be used to heat the house. Furnaces run mostly off natural gas and tend to be around 60-90% efficient. Older units can be as low as 50% efficient. Electric resistance heaters are usually around 100% efficient at producing heat. However, this statistic is slightly misleading when thinking about total efficiency because you must account for the electric energy being consumed by the heater. Power plants are only able to produce electric energy from natural gas at about 35% efficiency. Consequently, electricity is more expensive than natural gas to produce, making electric resistance heaters more expensive to operate. This energy cost must also be accounted for when adding up the total cost of electric resistance heating.
...at there is no electricity so you than grab a candle and light it so you can continue your book. It is past your bedtime and you are tired, before you go to bed you refill the wood stove so you don’t wake up freezing like this morning. Before you go to bed you think about how much we use electricity on a day-to-day basis and how much we depend on it to make our lives easier.
