According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, everyday almost thirty people die in the United States because of a motor vehicle crash that involves alcohol, that is about one death every 51 minutes (CDC.com). That statistic is appalling because it means that nearly 11,000 Americans die every year because of alcohol related accidents. That statistic does not include the ripple effect that those deaths has on the families of those killed. Our nation is hurting and damaged because people choose to drink, and then drive.
A standard drink is about 8 ounces of beer, getting drunk is not by the type of beer but how much alcohol is consumed. An average person metabolizes alcohol at the rate of one drink per hour (madd.org). In the horrifying teenage life we have, tennagers are more likey to drink a higher percentage of alcohol per hour than an adult. This was said because teenagers in this generation like to party and drink alcohol on a regular basis. Younger people could be at most risk because it is greater chances for a teenager to drive drunk than a older adult who has been drinking alcohol. The reason for the statement above is because as an adult they tend to take responsibility by not driving at all because they are smart or they have a

designated drunk driver. Teenagers on the other hand are stupid and participate without thinking before they do it. Also, teenagers think they are invincible, and think they won’t get got or in trouble because teenagers are so confident in anything they go ahead and do it to show off for friends.
Kids who start drinking younger are seven times more likely to be in a crash.

Over ¼ of 8th graders have tried a type of alcohol. High school students who use alcohol are five times more likely to drop out of school than students who do not drink alcohol or do drugs (madd.org). The statistics above show that people who drink alcohol that are under age have a higher risk of screwing up their. If the United States could be more strict about underage drinking it would decrease the amount of children who die alcohol related dramatically. It would also help more kids to stay in school and get good grades because they wouldn’t be partying on the weekends, they would most liking be doing their

homework.
An average drunk driver will have driven drunk over 80 times before their first arrest. About ⅓ of all drivers arrested for drunk driving end up doing it again. Over 40% of all 10th graders drink alcohol (madd.org). Teenagers who get in trouble for drinking while driving are more likely to do it again because they are young and in college. Peer pressure could also have a big affect on this topic because kids do stupid things in front of their friends to try and fit in, or be accepted into that group of people by drinking beer and driving around.
The number of drunk driving crashes have been cut in half since MADD was founded in 1980. Since 1980, MADD has helped save 300,000 lives in the United States (Madd.org). Mothers against drunk driving founder created this group because her 13 year old daughter was hit by a car that came swerving around the corner while she was walking to church carnival. Candy Lightner founded the organization and it grew into one of the most influential non-profit organizations (history.com). Obviously, mothers against drunk driving organization has helped many people across the United States, and is a good influence on younger people who might volunteer or donate to stay away from alcohol while driving a motor vehicle.
Sobriety checkpoints, which is a traffic stop to check the level of alcohol impairment, which reduces crashes by 9%. Ignition interlocks which are devices installed into cars of people who have been convicted of drunk driving, which prevents operation of the car with anyone that is above 0.04% (CDC.com).
