Drunk Driving According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, everyday almost thirty people die in the United States because of a motor vehicle crash that involves alcohol, that is about one death every 51 minutes (CDC.com). That statistic is appalling because it means that nearly 11,000 Americans die every year because of alcohol related accidents. That statistic does not include the ripple effect that those deaths has on the families of those killed. Our nation is hurting and damaged because people choose to drink, and then drive. A standard drink is about 8 ounces of beer, getting drunk is not by the type of beer but how much alcohol is consumed. An average person metabolizes alcohol at the rate of one drink per hour (madd.org). In the horrifying teenage life we have, tennagers are more likey to drink a higher percentage of alcohol per hour than an adult. This was said because teenagers in this generation like to party and drink alcohol on a regular basis. Younger people could be at most risk because it is greater chances for a teenager to drive drunk than a older adult who has been drinking alcohol. Over ¼ of 8th graders have tried a type of alcohol. High school students who use alcohol are five times more likely to drop out of school than students who do not drink alcohol or do drugs (madd.org). The statistics above show that people who drink alcohol that are under age have a higher risk of screwing up their. If the United States could be more strict about underage drinking it would decrease the amount of children who die alcohol related dramatically.
