Right to Carry a Concealed Weapon
Who has the right to carry a concealed weapon? Some people have different views on who should carry a concealed weapon. I believe certain people should have the right to carry a conceal weapon. A weapon is not a toy and should not be able to put in everyone’s hand. Too many people have died due to mistreatment of a gun. You need to know how to handle a gun, and safety issues that comes with a gun.
Some people who shouldn’t carry a concealed weapon are young people, mentally ill people, people with violent felonies, and the young. Some people might think some mentally ill people should carry guns. Some say it depends on the diagnosis of their mental problem.
Hopefully everyone agrees that a young person should

They are not competent to make the right choices when it comes to using a gun. They might have a break down and want to hurt everyone around them by using a gun. Their state of mind changes from day to day. For any reason, you’re committed to a mental institution voluntarily or involuntarily should not have the right to carry a conceal weapon. Especially if you see a psychiatrist on a regular basis for mental issues you should not be able to carry a gun.
People with psychotic behaviors could think someone is after them and really, they’re not. From that, that person could harm someone for the wrong reason. Also, people with chronic depression should not be allowed to carry a weapon for their own safety. They might try to commit suicide with the weapon. By not being allowed to carry a weapon it can save the life of a suicidal person. Carrying a gun can danger the life of that person or others.
Any person that has been charged with a violent crime should not be allowed to carry a weapon. The chances are the majority of those violent criminals will use their gun for crime. That’s taking a big chance putting a deadly weapon into a violent person’s hands. I think people with non-violent crimes should be giving a second chance to carry a weapon. But they should keep a close eye on them. Don’t just put the gun in their hands forget about
“Guns don’t kill people, people do.” This is a well known statement that is oftentimes considered true. However, it is not completely true. Someone who is mentally ill may be unable to make logical decisions and the perception they receive of reality may be tainted by the illness. Gun laws pertaining to those suffering mental illnesses should be more restrictive. Weapons such as guns make committing an act of violence, especially when there are multiple victims, much easier. It is difficult to assess the probability of a person to commit a violent act that harms anyone including himself/herself. Therefore, gun laws need be monitored very closely and made more consistent throughout each state in order to prevent violence that could occur in the future. To make any system effective, every state must have the same laws and regulations, as it is easy for a person to travel to a state more lenient on gun control and purchase a gun from a store that will sell firearms more openly.
“The right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment supports conceal and carry by stating “the right to bear arms.” That statement should be exemplified as to have a gun in public. People need to have a weapon ready for use in case of emergency. Not in a car or locked up inside a house, but in reach of the certified personnel. According to the opposing side on ProCon.org, the article Should Adults Have the Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun states: “the amendment is not unlimited and should permit weapons only to citizens who can prove a ‘justifiable need’” (“Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun” 3). The article also has a women’s opinion on Conceal and carry. She stated “women need to be able to defend their home and defend themselves if they go out. It 's just a safety issue” (“Right to Carry a Concealed Handgun” 2). In order to feel safe, and have a reliable self-defense mechanism should be a justifiable reason for Conceal and Carry
Law abiding citizens should have the right to protect themselves against criminals. You are less likely to suffer an injury when attacked if you are carrying a handgun, as opposed to other methods of self-protection. The right to carry a concealed handgun is protected by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution states “the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed” (ProCon.org 1).Carrying a handgun could keep a lot of people from being killed during a public shooting incident. Concealed handguns protect citizens from violent crimes such as burglary and robbery. Most criminals are armed and you don’t have much of a chance of survival if you are not carrying a
The second amendment grants all Americans the right to bear arms. The ability to hold a firearm at any time as long as the firearm is registered. In the United states, all it takes to hold a firearm is a background check and a safety class. In a short reading from the “American Now” book a short article By Christina Tenuta called Responsible gun ownership saves lives she asks “do Americans really need guns?”, but are the guns really the problem? Although the second amendment requires some decent documents , the qualifications to obtain a firearm needs to be revised to a mental check, a family history check , and also to make it a priority for reinforcement to check on the registered firearm every six to twelve months.
Everyone has had that time in their life where they feel that they would be safer if they had some sort of protection, concealed carry is a great option for protection. Over the years it has been growing in popularity, more and more people are going out and getting their concealed carry permit. With more and more people going out and getting their permit, some may view it as dangerous, while others feel it is a necessity. Concealed carry is essential because, it allows added protection, has certain restrictions that the person must meet, and if guns are handled properly they are not as dangerous
People with mental issues or not mentally stable should not be able to own any kind of firearms.People that want to be eligible to own a firearm should be checked mentally and physically. There were many cases where a person that was not
Although it seems straightforward, the US constitution leaves a sort of ‘grey area’ when speaking of concealed firearms in public, the second amendment speaks of militia related interest, not self-defense related interests. The second amendment defines the right to keep a firearm in a household, which was normal for the time; but the ever-changing world and constant threat of shootings means we should leave it to police officers to handle crime. One major argument, however, is the thought that ‘if everybody was armed, everybody would then be able to protect themselves’. Sadly, we do not live in a perfect world; we live in a world where more guns leads to more accidents. Also if everybody was armed, Criminals and under-the-radar insane people would all want to perform heinous acts against society. In Gun Control by Earl Kruschke he states, “Someone who keeps a gun in their house for self-defense is more likely to injure themselves than to ward off an attacker” (Kruschke 34). That means owning a gun for self-defense and recreational use is statistically not worth doing, but it may offer some much needed peace of mind. Many citizens believe that owning a gun in a home can be an effective way to defend their
Should the 2nd amendment be revoked or changed? Many Americans would say “No,” stating that guns are dangerous and times have changed. Others might argue that having the right to bear arms keeps people safe and less threated by the outside world. In this debate, both sides of the 2nd amendments constitutional rights will be argued. The upcoming presidential election has been influencing voters to revoke our 2nd amendment rights which could change the democracy on which our country was founded.
For many years, America has witnessed mass shootings within it’s borders. In 2015 alone, there were 372 mass shootings (Oldham). The question most Americans are faced with is: do we need more gun control or is gun control the problem? With more gun control, it can be made mandatory that protective devices are used on firearms to prevent accidental harm. Gun control creates mandatory laws such as the requirement for an individual to pass a background check before he/she is permitted to purchase a firearm. Gun control has also been proven to prevent suicides due to the increased difficulty of obtaining a firearm. Those who believe that gun control is the problem claim that by removing one 's firearms, you are endangering them to threats that
Many shootings sere committed by those diagnosed with a mental illness. “Laws cannot regulate responses to emotions, mental illnesses, or past events that foster the concepts and motivations of a killer” (O’Brien and Stanton). What causes these laws to not regulate certain people is that they have a certain mental illness or emotion. Laws cannot regulate the internal emotional force. Laws can only imply to those who are capable of understanding and complying with them. “Emotionally unsound people who wish to find weapons will find weapons through any means necessary” (O’Brien and Stanton). A person who happens to have a certain mental illness may not realize that what they are doing is wrong. Usually the mentally ill find their weapons through taking them from their family members or from purchases that they have made. People that have a mental illness or are on a medication are just one reason why gun control needs to be implied more. A person that hap...
This is caused because the more guns there, are the less violence there is. Dangerous criminals will think twice about robbing someone that has a gun. A victim with a gun is no longer a victim because they can not fight back against the attacker. Therefore, they can save their lives and save lives of the public which need help at that moment. Lott states, “The estimated annual gain from 1992 from allowing concealed handguns was over $5.74 billion” (House Report). This states that when a decline in violence goes down the amount of money goes up. Concealed guns can only benefit everyone in multiple ways. Concealed weapons can help create the feeling of safety and reduce violence. No one wants to live in
... middle of paper ... ... Responsible citizens should have a right to carry a gun in order to protect themselves from those who obtain it illegally. All in all, responsible adults should have the right to carry a concealed handgun.
As of 2013, all 50 states allow concealed carry of handguns (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps), although a few states don’t require a permit and the standards for licensing vary greatly from state to state. In the U.S. most states are “Shall Issue” states. This means they will grant anybody a permit that meets certain guidelines such as being 21 or older and not having any felony convictions, a history of mental illness or domestic abuse. A handful of other states are “May Issue” states. In these other states, such as Maryland, a permit will only be issued if you can prove you need it. This can be a large obstacle and these states will usually only issue permits to people in the public eye, wealthy individuals that are well-connected or business owners frequently transporting large sums of cash (Concealed Carry Reciprocity Maps). Although the requirements and standards are different wherever you may live, one thing holds true- concealed carry permit holders are rapidly growing. The market for handgun training, concealed carry courses and smaller, more concealable handguns have opened up. When concealed carry was first gaining popularity there were two very different schools of thought. Some thought that violent crime would decrease, as criminals would fear the everyday person that just may happen to be armed. Others thought that having people carrying around concealed handguns in public would lead to an increase in violent crime with people losing their temper and shooting each other. When analyzing the data and crime trends, it is clear that with this influx of concealed carry permit holders there has not been a corresponding increase in violent crime.
Guns have a long history in the United States. Guns are used for self-defense but they are also used for hunting. Since guns are a part of the American culture, it is almost impossible to get rid of all the guns in the country. However, by training people how to use the guns properly, give people the right mental care, and limit the people who can have guns could stop school shootings in America.
Gun safety is very important in the matters of teaching people that firearms are not a toy. One should always treat the gun like it is loaded. Too many people choose to play around with guns by swinging them around, tossing them to people, or aiming the gun at other people and pretending to shoot them. These are signs that people are much too immature and should not be handling a firearm.
