Cash For Grades Essay Underperforming schools aren't good for any student. They have low rating, which usually means that not much learning goes on. They are usually nasty , dirty , and not a healthy place for a student to learn or even attend. Schools don't want to be viewed as a bad place to attend or send students. They want to have a great image to the public. They want to be known as like things like “best school in the district , the best choice for kids.” Reason why they want this reputation is because is because it draws in more students and more students means more money for the school. Cash for Grades program. Even some schools with a bad rating and not many kids are starting the program but that's rarely seen. The Cash for Grades program pays students for having good grades, and passing certain tests with the required test score. The amount of cash you get varies on what kind of school you go to for example, people that go to school with 100s and 100s of kids and live in a high income area can get more money than someone who lives in a low income area with less kids. The cash could go towards better technology, books , and make the campus better for students. It could also go to the community it could make the places around the school look safer and more like a good environment for kids. Even though people disagree and think the money is going towards a good cause there is always a better way all that money can be spent. The money really should go towards making schools a better place . The cash should not be given to all those kids you’ll never know what they might do with the cash they receive. That's a second reason why the program isn't very good or well thought
The teachers use a currency in order to reward the children in a way of “cash” rewards. Nearly 100% of the students in the school are living in poverty at home, are African-American, and are without a preschool education. Older students have been required to fill out applications with references for classroom jobs, followed by attending an interview. To begin, with, school should not pay students for good grades because they are constrained to earn good grades. Evidence from the NEA article claims, “Many teachers also say paying students for grades leads to practical problems in their classroom, including pressure to inflate grades.” This leads to kids trying to get good grades, which can cause stress because if they have one dreadful grade, they will worry a lot about not getting as much money. Even way back then, the whole thinking of giving more money to schools that score higher than schools that score lower seemed like a really dumb way to do things. Now, students have to do testing every time they turn around. The testing not only affects the money the government gives to the school district. It affects the individual students much more. Students that test low are not able to graduate even though they have completed and passed all of their classes.
Giving students a grade that they have not earned hinders the youth’s future educational success. A number of schools are no longer giving a grade of zero on assignments, tests, and exams completed by students. While other school districts continue to give students the grade that is adequate for the work they have done or have not completed. Giving students the grade that equals their work is designed to show students where they need to improve. Many school boards want to stop giving out zeros for work that hasn’t been turned in and give a grade that rages around the “D” area keeping children from falling behind in their classes. Public schools across the nation are being labeled as low performing schools at a very fast rate. Low performing schools (LPS) are schools that do not meet the required standards that state officials set each year for all schools. These standards may include a certain graduation rate, certain goals for standardize testing, and a limited number of behavior referrals. The majority of public schools do not meet these standards. They often struggle with high dropout rates, low standardize test scores, low graduation rates, and disciplinary problems. These problems can truly hinder the future of these schools and the students attending them, so they are placed on the academically unacceptable list; low performing schools list. Although those problems standout they are forming from smaller problems within the schools. Many of the schools on the low performing list lack in the quality and quantity of teachers and books. This causes students not to meet the expected standards on standardize tests. Low test scores can lead to high dropout rates and low graduation rates. Another small problem they face is overcrowded classrooms which bring along the huge number of discipline problems. It can add to the low test scores because teachers are often interrupted with discipline problems while trying to teach large classes. Students who have trouble grasping the concepts that the teacher is teaching and who are constantly involved in disciplinary cases often dropout of LPS. When public schools lose students the state officials cutback on the schools’ finances that they receive to fund the school.
This practice of just promoting kids to higher grades when they truly are not prepared to move on is despicable, because it only hurts the student. Diane Ravitch in her article defines it as “social promotion – the endemic practice of moving students up to the next grade whether they have earned it or not—” (Paragraph 7). The kids that have been treated this way reach high school extremely ill- prepared and disadvantaged academically to their peers. This leads to students struggling and is one of the main reasons kid’s dropout of high school. These poor kids treated like packages on a conveyer belt are so far behind their peers that they truly struggle to keep up, and the teachers can only do so much to help them. It only becomes harder for the teachers if these kids do go to them and ask for help or special tutoring. High schools cannot be expected to have low drop out percentages if this is how the system feels towards
Typically, Americans do not have a second thought when it comes to giving a tip at the end of each meal. They simply calculate how much percentage to give their waiter (whether it be 10 to 15 percent) or they simply lie down a couple of wadded up dollar bills. However, some complain that tipping should not feel like an obligation at every meal, especially if the service is poor. Others argue, why should they be responsible for paying the waitstaff humanly? The reason behind why we tip today is because waitstaff do not get paid efficiently since they go on tips alone for income. Students are required to think a specific way, prepare the way teachers want them to be prepared. Students also have their own opinion, because they are not afraid to be wrong, and need a way to move forward.
Students should be paid for having good grades. According to Psychology Today, the United States has fallen behind other nations in education. In addition to this, approximately one in four students in the U.S. drops out of school before graduation. The main reason for this is that students have little to no motivation. Students are either bored with school, or they are distracted by the other things that go on in their lives such as sports, jobs, friends and their own family life.
School can be frustrating for students. Going to school, doing homework, and then repeating it all over again the next day can become quite tedious. Especially when one feels as if they are not gaining anything from doing well in school, it causes students to have very little motivation to complete their schoolwork. Students might be motivated if there was some sort of incentive for attending school and doing well at it. A law should be passed that requires students to be paid for doing well in school because it gives them motivation, helps them with financial issues, and allows them to learn how to manage money more effectively.

There are many other programs that want back into the school curriculum such as music and shop classes. I found that many changes have been made recently to children school curriculum and that some people think that they only teach children to excel at standardized tests. If a school has high test scores they receive more federal money.
