Arming Teachers:
In recent years, gun violence has become more popular in communities and public areas. One of the most easy targeted places is public schools. Public schools are a vulnerable target for outside threats. President Trump and the NRA (National Rifle Association) are pushing for an alternative to end these kinds of incidents. One key solution is to arm teachers and staff throughout the school and facility (Heim). Arming teachers would be a way to prevent school shootings in many ways. Every staff member should possess a weapon for defensive purposes.
A teacher or staff member may need to take action in the occurrence of an incident where an intruder or a threat is inside of the school. On average a school shooting typically lasts from three to four minutes. It also takes first responders to arrive at a scene on an average of five to eight minutes (Sandell). This also keeps teachers more informed about proper gun safety and how to properly discharge a firearm. Some people seem to have the misunderstanding that “arming teachers” means just throwing a gun at them and telling them to use it when it becomes necessary. This is why most schools have a plan for an incident that a shooter would not be aware of. Also if guns are given to teachers these guns should be out of sight and out of reach from students. The guns should be defensive weapons only and should not be used nor seen for anything other than that. In addition there would a high likelihood of a shooter knowing whether teachers were armed or not. If teachers and staff were armed a shooter is more than likely to avoid that school, knowing his or her life could be in jeopardy as
