Would you rather go on a trip in the freezing, frosty cold or the dazzling, bright warm weather? In my opinion, going on week long trips or even small trips I would much rather visit in the summer. In the summer there are more things to do, school work isn’t as important, and it’s safer for everyone. Of course a small amount of people do love winter and all the snow, but from what I know, the majority of people enjoy summer much more than winter. It's lots of fun going on a grade eight trip with all your friends is lots of fun in winter, but when you have one hour of your free time to hang, visit or shop walking into a store with your hat, mitts, coat, boots and even snow pants is very inconvenient. When it's winter at school your always doing tests and your report cards may be just coming out and in summer you are watching movies doing activities and your school work isn’t as important, so going in summer is less challenging for teachers and the district, and besides there is way more tourist parks and even amusement parks in summer! Such as tests are happening, exams and near and but by the end of the year around summer the report cards are done and students are in the classes doing activities and watching movies. Even if when it’s so close to the end of the year teachers don’t have any major work for the students because they can’t mark-so that wouldn’t make sense knowing it doesn’t even count. Around winter students are missing school days (absents) the teachers have to post pone the test for that one kid who missed it. They will most likely have to do it the next day. With all the grade eights missing a whole week is very traumatic. Experiencing the trip in summer won't make teachers worried and won't make students miss the test so it’s like a win-win. If you will, please keep on reading for my last
A student at Ste. Genevieve High School even expressed how she needs the summer break to unwind and not have to care about studying for a class when school would return to session. Another reason students may oppose this change is due to the fact High School students may hold summer jobs to earn some spending money. In certain instances, the year-round calendar may prevent students from holding these jobs or holding them for extended periods of time. One more reason students may disapprove of year-round education is because of extracurricular activities, and how they will be changed or shifted. New teachers can be affected in many ways. Unlike teachers who work in traditional school districts, they do not have the long summer to prepare and acquaint themselves for the forthcoming school year. Along with preparing lessons and assignments, teachers would not be able to take their own vacations and prepare for school
Today many people have a very fixed view about others in different countries, and what the locals from those countries think about Americans. America was formed so people from other cultures could come and make a life for themselves, and so they could come and enjoy the traditions and ways of America. If people could stop and think about all the good things that other countries have to offer instead of all the bad that the media shows, they could learn to appreciate those countries better. People need to be more open minded about going to other countries because without travel there would be no way of learning about other cultures.
Another significant reason is summer vacation needs to be longer. The primary reason for this is children need time to wind down and relax before they have to go back to school. For instance, during the summer children relax and prepare for school, if they...
Attending a year round school will help students retain the information they are taught with greater ease due to the shortness in breaks between times they attend school. An Indianapolis fourth-grade school teacher says, “In this calendar, my goodness, (it takes) two weeks at most.”, referring to the six weeks it normally takes to review the previous year’s lesson to get the students up to speed from the summer break (Johnson). If you are to add twenty days to t...
There are many advantages to year round schooling. The two major advantages for year round schooling is the elimination or reduction in learning loss during summer breaks and improvement of student achievement. Winter, also stated other advantages such as attendance in school, reduction in drop out rate, student attitudes, and teacher attitudes. Less absenteeism by both teachers and students. The students attitudes were more positive to school and learni...
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Back in the early ages, the idea of year-round school would be thought as completely insane, because the farming families depended on their children to be home during harvest time. Now in modern times, the term year-round school is becoming more and more common in the United States of America. Slowly the schools are changing the way they teach, from giving the students a long three month break to a shorter one month break during the summer. The change of America’s high schools to the year-round schedule benefits both the schools and the students because they still get breaks throughout the school year, the children are less likely to forget information, the children would have more time with the teachers to learn, and the parents would not have to pay for childcare during the long summer break.
Young Goodman Brown is a holy man, with a repressed wish inside of him to explore the unknown. This wish came to him through a dream and changed the rest of his life dramatically. The story "Young Goodman Brown" by Nathaniel Hawthorne shows us the possible outcomes of Young Goodman Brown's decision to explore into the forest to find the unknown. Hawthorne also uses symbols in the story to represent good and evil. It is a story about a man whose true identity prevailed and destroys him from the inside out.
As school comes to a closing, children start to get excited. They get to play outside, sleep in, and also not have to worry about tedious school work. But for some, summer vacation isn’t such a good thing. In Anna Quindlen's essay “School’s Out for Summer,” she explains how summer can be a struggle for some families. When school is in session, kids get lunch and if they come to school early, breakfast too. When school ends, families that can’t afford to feed their kids, have to find different way to get food. Quindlen does a great job persuading the readers as to why summer break isn’t such a good thing. In her essay she uses statistics, provides solutions people are trying to do, and she also uses pathos in her essay.
The summer vacation students on a traditional schedule receive could be very beneficial since summer gives time for the students to attend camps or other activities that would allow them to learn. The camp may not be like the learning in school, but students would be able to get a different style of education while having fun. Lynn-nore Chittom and Jeff Klassen, two authors who wrote about year-round vs. traditional schooling say, “Critics also cite year-round school as an obstacle to summer enrichment programs such as youth camps, and note that the balanced calendar model can hurt students and industries dependent on short-term summer employment” (Chittom). If students are going to school all year with only some short breaks, when would they have time to go to camp? Even if their camp is during one of their breaks, the students would have homework to complete, thus eliminating the educational effects of the camp on the student. Also, teen...
I have heard many great things about studying abroad from family and friends. I hear things, including: studying abroad allows one to experience another culture directly, helps you develop new skills that you cannot learn in a classroom, and also helps one learn about themselves. Listening to the people close to me talk about how amazing their time abroad, was made me realize it is something I desire to do. I know this opportunity will be extremely beneficial to me for numerous reasons: I want to learn more about who I am and my values, I have never been off of the continent before, it is a great thing to put on my résumé and will enhance employment opportunities. I will value studying abroad in Italy because this experience will assist me
Summer break should be longer because students can work more, spend time with family members, and students can rest their minds. If summer break were was longer, then students could work more and as long as they wanted to work. Students could get more money when working while on summer break. Students would like working on summer break to get money because they could buy more stuff with their money. Cause the students would have more money from working on their hole summer break.
I agree and think that we should not have that long of a summer when we can just have more breaks but shorter. When summer is that long then what is the point of going back to school because we forget everything anyways during that long break. So I believe we should have a fall break during Thanksgiving, a winter break during Christmas, a summer break that’s not as long, and a spring break.
What are virtual field trips? According to Kirchen (2011) “A virtual field trip (VFT) is a technology-based experience that allows children to take an educational journey without leaving the classroom" (p.22). VFTs can take students all over the world. Teachers have the opportunity to create VFTs that connect to the curriculum. While teachers are able to create their own VFT, there are also trips available for free online. VFTs can be used in any classroom, including early childhood classrooms (grades pre-k to 2nd). Technology does not need to be the most advanced for teachers to be able to implement VFT into their classroom. Lukes (2014) mentioned that VFT can be used using “a relatively low-techs solution that would work on any computer
Through all of the changes of education, one has slowly started to take place all over the world. The education system was created with a three month break in the summer. Slowly, the idea of year round school has been planted in education. Students fear it, but should they? The idea of year round school is not what everyone thinks it is. Most year round sch...
