We are told that this war wasn’t about killing; but about serving and honoring your country. However, one question always stirred up, but can never be answered. What did cause the most horrifying war to ever take place on the battlefield? Nothing. One word could describe World War I: stupid. WWI did not have to happen; there was no explicit reason and was an absolute mistake. To think that during every battle about 19,000 soldiers were killed all for nothing. But there was no legitimate reason to why everyday people were ‘serving’ and ‘honoring’ their country, only to die. People had the choice of peace or war, and yet, time after time, they chose war. After WWI ended a treaty was made, this was called the Treaty of Versailles. Anybody at the time knew that this treaty was the start of another war, of another way thousands of lives would end. This treaty disallowed …show more content…
When countries such as Italy and Germany began to take over their neighboring countries to build of their army, countries such as Britain and France wanted to keep peace through "appeasement." Instead of declaring war and trying to stop the invasions, they surrendered and kept Germany happy. They hoped that by meeting Hitler’s demands he would be satisfied enough and not start another war. However, this only gave Hitler more encouragement and the appeasement backfired. The economic collapse caused by WWI also caused WWII. This period of time was called the Great Depression. The Great Depression began when the stock market collapsed in 1929. It included a series of droughts, bank fiascos, over production of goods, and debts. During this time, many people were very poor and had little or no food at all. After World War I, the government was very weak. Many countries saw this as an opening for an attack. The Germans thought that if they had another chance, and could do it right this time, then they would win a second
“War is unorganized murder, and nothing else” (Harry Patch). In World War 1, which was first called the Great War, there were many causes of the war breaking out. The Great War started August 1st 1914 days later after the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophia, when they visited Bosnia. Many soldiers went to war for no reason but to fight for their country. The Great War was not only affected by the soldiers, but also by the civilians as well. Women replaced men in factories, offices, and shops while the men were at war so that everything would be working smoothly. The main underlying causes of World War 1 were the alliances and imperialism in Europe.
Germany continued to push buttons resulting in the world jumping into a World War. Nations desired to grow and gain more influence. Danger increased while others selfish dictators were trying to bloom. In The Treaty of Versailles an article stated that German troops were forbidden from entering
WWII got its start in the capitalist crisis of the 1930s. Starting with the 1929 U.S. stock market crash, all countries in the world capitalist economy suffered depression, stagnation and massive unemployment. http://socialismandliberation.org/mag/index.php?aid=360
Another factor in causing World War II was the Wall Street Crash of 1929 resulting in a 2-year economic depression all over the world. Not only did these cause countries such as Britain and France to take a less active foreign policy, but also it destroyed the newly found prosperity in Germany and made many people jobless. This led to Hitler
Germany was economically frail subsequent to World War I. The Treaty of Versailles had held them accountable for the cause, and the Great Depression further deteriorated their condition. Germany was ambitious for power and resources. Envisioning world domination, Adolf Hitler, dictator of Nazi Germany, led his Nazi Party to invade Poland in 1939. France and Britain guaranteed to offer military support if Poland were to become attacked; they declared war, initiating World War II.
The Treaty of Versailles, initially created to keep peace in Europe and ensure that another war like World War I wouldn’t happen again, had in fact, backfired and spiraled the world down into a deeper, bloodier battle. The treaty discriminated strongly against Germany, with the loss of territories, military restrictions, economic reparations, and the War Guilt Clause. It caused humiliation and anger within Germany, and led to Hitler and the Nazi Party coming to power. World War II was not only started by Adolf Hitler and Germany, but had a lot to do with the humiliation that Germany felt when the terms for the Treaty of Versailles were laid down. The harsh terms of the Treaty of Versailles may be indirectly related to the cause of World War II, but nonetheless was a huge factor in starting the war.
"The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” (-General George S. Patton Jr). Here within our borders we are the lucky ones, we have been blessed with the pleasure of so many brave men and women; to volunteer in the world's greatest military; and put their lives on the line for something that they believe is a moral obligation. But, think of some other countries, that have conscription (the practice of ordering people by law to serve in the armed forces) laws. We as a nation have some laws on conscription, and if you are male and above the age of 18 you have already signed the slip of paper stating that in the time of war; if our great nation re-instated the draft then there is a great chance you will be serving on the frontline of the next Great War. This brings me to my first topic of this page, is it ethical to have a draft? My second topic that I will discuss will be on if it is morally acceptable to "draft dodge". What I mean on the second topic is if you have a right; that morally allows you to not go fight in the war.
The U.S. military is a strong force and body that protects and serves the American people. Many people support the military and some even disagree with it. What people forget is that without a military the U.S. would be totally over run by foreign countries claiming ground. The military also helps with the nation’s economy boosting the balance of money in the works. Families have trouble with members who serve since there is always chance that they never return but it is because of their service that we are still a free country. Even though the military causes pain to families when a loved one is lost, the U.S. needs a military because with a military the economy increases and that without a military we would be invaded by a dictator or foreign
According to Document 4,In 1938 Britain, France, and Italy met with Hitler to discuss his demand for the Sudetenland. Hitler got what he wanted from this meeting, because of appeasement. Europe was happy with this because it avoided war. This did not benefit the Czechs at all though. For some reason, Chamberlain favored Appeasement.
Conscription, also known as drafting, is a practice that requires mandatory enlisting into any of the branches of the armed forces. This practice has been adopted by the United States at the very least two times before and from what I can remember during World War II and the Civil War conscription was being practiced. Nowadays conscription is not practiced in the United States because there isn’t a need for it. Now, if you want to join the army you can do so by volunteering. However, there are people who believe conscription should be brought back. Some people believe that the drafting of younger people might help these young people develop useful skills and cultivate a sense of unity and national pride. Although all of these are valid reasons,
The United States is an extremely affluent country, however, the U.S. government does not allocate its funds correctly. The government spends entirely too much of the budget on military spending. A segment of the military budget should go towards education. Education is completely undervalued in America and is often pushed to the side in political debates. Conversely, several of the top-ranked countries in education are also flourishing economically. Even though the U.S. is struggling to compete in education, the government has all but given up at this point. There are no signs of increased education spending or a decrease in military spending. How is this country supposed to continue to grow and move forward if the citizens
World War II, like other wars, was a war that was fought as a result of a nation’s belief that they must gain power. This war was the result of Germany's increase in power that was brought about by the rise of one person, Adolf Hitler. World War II was fought between the Allied Powers, which were Great Britain, the Soviet Union, China, and the United States, and the Axis Powers, who were Germany, Italy, and Japan. There were several reasons as to why the war started and how people responded to what was happening. Several people favored a policy of appeasement when they should’ve favored a policy of collective security.
Innocence, having no wrongdoing, is considered a part of childhood. A child, however, is no longer believed to be pure after they become killers. In Africa, innocent children are forced to become child soldiers each day. These soldiers are taken from their homes ,and are told to kill or be killed. Child soldiers can be anyone under 18 associated with an armed force. Children in Africa and among other places are being forced to murder and serve in wars as young as age seven. The child soldiers are drugged and made to kill. In many situations they do not know what is going on and did not choose to fight. Though some child soldiers may choose to fight many are unwillingly sacrificing themselves each day. Therefore, child soldiers should be granted
Leading up to World War II, also known as the Second World War, was the acceleration of the global economic collapse. In 1929 the stock market crashed and nearly half of America’s banks failed due to uninsured deposits and fear in creating new loans. The stock market crash was one of the prime factors in the cause of the Great Depression. With this economic bust, individuals cut back on purchases, causing assemblies to accumulate and an intensification in unemployment rates. Erroneously, it is assumed that the Great Depression caused World War II, while it was a prime factored cause, it was not the only cause.
Israel was not considered a country until the United Nations made it its own country in 1948 because Israel and Palestine were having territorial and governmental issues (Issitt and Montanez - Muhinda). The conflict between the two countries began in the twentieth century. The Jews were living on Palestinian territory and because of that the Palestinians were furious about it. Palestine owned 45 percent of the land and Israel owned the other 55 percent. Palestinians thought this division of the land was unfair because they got less land yet both countries had to share the Holy City of Jerusalem. Also, ethnic and religious differences cause the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The United States got involved with this conflict by joining
