Recommended: Failure of the League of Nations in the Second World War

The world was plunged into World War II in 1939 for many reasons. The reasons were Japan invading Manchuria, Mussolini's attack on Ethiopia, and when Hitler defies The Treaty of Versailles. Appeasement was one of the biggest things that lead to World War II.Appeasement was giving in to an aggressor to keep peace.It basically postponed the War from happening but did not stop the war from happening . The Most effective response to aggression at this time was collective security because it was using the appeasement to got the countries together and didn't benefit them. One reason that cause the world was plunged into World War II in 1939 was Japan invading Manchuria.Manchuria was an area rich in iron and coal. Japan had been going to other places to invade them and steal their raw materials. According to outside information, they murdered 100,000 innocent Chinese in Manchuria. The world was furious with the Japanese.Therefore the US had chose to place an oil embargo on Japan and would not sell oil to them at Hawaii or any other port until they stopped their actions. The Japanese attack on Manchuria was the first direct challenge on the League of Nations.When this happened many league members strongly protested. Japan just ignored these protests and replied by quitting the League. Another reason for World War II was Mussolini's attack on Ethiopia.Ethiopia was one of Africa's three independent nations. According to outside information,Mussolini had dreamed of building a colonial empire in Africa like those of British and France.Therefore,to get Ethiopia,Mussolini ordered a massive invasion of Ethiopia on October 1935. Europe was happy from this because it avoided war. This did not benefit the Czechs at all though.For some reason, Chamberlain favored Appeasement. According to Document 5, He thinks appeasement is the best way because he believes war is a "fearful thing".He thinks that appeasement will benefit Europe. World War II happened for many reasons,which there is most likely no way anyone could have stopped it from eventually happening. By using appeasement in the beginning,were just giving Hitler exactly what he wanted which was not good at all.But by Collective Security, Europe finally did what was needed to be done to gain back the power that they had just given away.Collective Security is more effective response to aggression because it doesn't let the aggressor get what he wants and to gain too much power over everyone.

Each article of the Versailles Treaty only made Germany more restless, until 1933 when Hitler produced his own gun and pointed it at the Allies. The Treaty had a series of unproportional effects upon Germany and its people. It caused a rift between the two sides because of the alliances that it formed, brewing tension. The punishments enforced upon Germany were unrealistically huge and it increased the wish among the Germans for the nullification of the Treaty. Finally, the accumulated hatred amongst the people gave birth to potential for a revolution. The Treaty of Versailles is, therefore, an indirect cause to World War II, because of the alliances it caused, the punishments it enforced, and the hatred it developed.

Collective Security is when multiple countries work together to strengthen a country in need.
