School shootings is a very serious problem that is occurring around the world today. Many students each year are affected by this scenario. Students who are affected by this violence never end up the same. More than 26,000 children and teens have been introduced to gun violence since 1999. All students who have been exposed to this threat will never forget this tragic event. The memory will never be forgotten, even when they are older. It has left them scars, mentally, of when they were in school. For example, Samantha Havilanda, a student who attended Columbine High, has experienced a school shooting at the age of 16. Samantha had survived the shooting and is now a director of counseling for helping traumatized kids. Even at the age of 35, she has not yet begun to fully recover from her own tragic event and experience in the past. It has been since colonial America that school shootings have been occurring. It has lead for students and teachers to wonder if their school will ever be safe from such a tragic event. Students and teachers shouldn’t have to fear coming to school everyday. School is a place for students to come and learn everyday and have fun. Parents shouldn’t have to worry if their children will make it through the rest of the day. Alylisa Evans, a mother of two children, was very worried when her son was two and in pre-k. Near his school was a man who had went on a shooting rampage and shot five innocent people before authorities shot him. Alylisa was very concerned about her son. When her daughter was in middle school, 6th grade, she had heard on the radio that a shooting had occured at a middle school, but she wasn’t quite sure if it was the school that her daughter was attending.
