When you think of going to college, and coming in as a freshman, what do you picture? I can tell you all the crazy things I imagined. The first thing was, the parties and crazy trips that I would be able to experience out of state just like the movies showed. Well, like most cases, movies exaggerate what really doesn’t happen in school. For example, “High school Musical”, was a series where 90 percent of those things in the movie didn’t happen to any of us in high school. Something else I thought about was the adult feeling of living away from my mother. It is a lot different than living at home, you must learn how to share a living space with a stranger, or maybe not if you requested a roommate. Everyone going to college must deal with that transition, and I’m not going to say it is easier dealing with the transition when you are closer to home. But I will admit that not being able to go home for every holiday makes the transition harder to go through for your first year and maybe every year that passes. My advice for incoming college freshmen would be to first make sure you appreciate time at home with your family as much as they can irritate you or stress you out. Also, don’t think high school totally prepared you for college courses. I know for a fact my English teachers all four years of high school did not teach me one thing besides how to put a paper in MLA Format. I learned more things in my Composition class within the four months then I did in four years. I am studying in exercise science, I came here initially to get my degree there and go to physical training or PT school after that. But now I am leaning more into becoming a strengthening coach. I can do a few things with this degree so I am not too stressed out with a full decision on what I am wanting after college. I also considered my back up majors if I decided to switch. They have both my backups, which are, business management, and graphic design. Lastly, I came here to play softball. It was my second offer out of state to play ball and since the school fit all my other requirements I chose to study here. The softball program in the past has never been very good.
