Michelangelo once said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” By aiming high, one can hope to achieve his full potential. Clearly, this statement is true. As a society reaching for improvement, we must embrace the suggestion that overreaching is essential to progress. Aiming high is very beneficial as it can push a person beyond his limits. If one sets his goals high, it will help him discover what he is really capable of doing. If one’s goals are low, he will never know what he is capable of doing. For example, Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft, and he earns copious amount of money every day. If he stops working and completely shuts down his company, he can still spend one million dollars a day and continue that for 735 years without running out of money; however, he still chooses to work every day. He could have stopped years ago thinking I have done enough, but he chose to keep working; now, the result is in front of us. Because of his high goals, he has made the world an easier and a faster place with his amazing technology. Another example is Alexander the Great, a man who had very high goals, and his goals made him the great leader that people know today. He was from a small place which was known as Macedonia, but his goals helped him conquer most of the known world. If he had not dreamt of such goals, we would have never had such a great leader. In fact, Alexander the Great once said, “There is nothing impossible to him who will try,” meaning that there is no such thing as an “impossible goal.” Setting goals that are too high will push one beyond his limits, and it will make one more dedicated and hardworkin... ... middle of paper ... ..., and setting low goals limits people from discovering what they are really capable of doing. Setting low goals stops people from becoming great. Every great man or woman that the world knows today had high goals. If one asks someone about a famous man or a famous woman who were inspirational and who had high goals and was successful in achieving them, there are going to be hundreds of names popping up in that person’s mind, but if one asks someone about a famous man or a famous woman who had low goals and was successful in achieving them, there will not be a single name in his mind because that does not exist. Setting low goals limits knowledge and imagination, and both of these things are very critical to become successful. Setting high goals will push one beyond his limits, make one more dedicated and hardworking, and make him more experienced and inspirational.
According to dictionary.com a goal is “the result or achievement toward which effort is directed.” A goal is a checkpoint that you strive to accomplish throughout life. Reading Dillards quote makes me think of never giving up on your goals and aspirations because if you have realistic goals and work hard towards them they can be achieved. In “Living Like Weasels” Annie Dillard says humans need to live more like weasels, “noticing everything, remembering nothing” (879). This portrays the weasel as living
Goals are logical and calculated, aspirations are emotional and inspirational, and needs cannot be avoided and are necessary to survival. Goals are typically about meeting, narrowing, and focusing on an outcome. Therefore, they can limit and create a narrow-minded approach of the world. On the other hand, aspirations are expansive and create new possibilities. There are more paths and options available, with a better sense of opportunities as they arise. Needs are finite things, motivating forces that compel action for satisfaction.
For one goal in life there is a multitude of setbacks that come with it, and there is no other way around it. The ones who complete their goals never said this too hard or it’s not worth all of this work. They went head on and faced the walls in their way.Two great examples of people who finished great goals and surpassed the many demanding trails are Kira Salak and Odysseus.
This brings up another point on the negative side of having the desire to wanting to become successful. One must be willing to sacrifice the things of present wants and at certain times even things that are needs. To accumulate the knowledge needed to ac...
...g impractical goals on people who have demonstrated that they will never obtain them. This will only end in unhappiness and disappointment. These people have shown that there is a slim chance that their behavior will drastically change to reflect the goals imposed on them.
Observe this immortal quotation of Henry Ford:"Whether you think you can or you think you cannot, you are right"The truth he successfully conveys is that we are the scribes of our own destiny. It is ambition that makes us think we can be successful, and lack of ambition that makes us think we cannot.
To begin with, large objectives will make you have loads of risks in your life while achieving them since you are willing to do anything to obtain a positive result. For example, when I was eight years old, my wish was to have an Xbox 360 because I wanted to be like my friends, who all owned one. In effect, I decided to go work with my parents at a tire shop in order to earn money to accomplish my dream. Consequently, I worked for three weeks, full of determination, not caring about the dangers I faced, such as having a fatal
This is a charateristc that holds the focus of many studies, debates, and people; but like Bonaparte said, it can serve it’s master for the better, or become a huge hinderance to everyone around it. Ambition, a force that drive humans and animals alike to achieve more, is addressed in The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Jeffery Kluger’s article, “Ambition: Why Some People Are Most Likely to Succeed”, and in W. H. Auden’s poem “Musee des Beaux Arts”, as having both positive effects, such as increased
We are told never to cross a bridge until we come to it, but this world is owned by men who have 'crossed bridges' in their imagination far ahead of the crowd. I was watching the Doctor Phil Show the other day, and he was talking about the five reasons for why successful people are as successful as they are. Number one on the list was a plan. A goal. A destination. An ambition. Without an ambition we have no purpose in our lives. In contrast, a goal can help us get organized and take steps towards achieving what we want in our day-to-day lives. My friend Ryan always used to tell me, and still does; “My life's ambition is to be happy with my place in, and contribution to Society.” That might be a nice thought, but is there really a workable goal there? No! “The ambitious man is essentially a visualizer and an actualizer... He can visualize something, and when he visualizes it he sees exactly how to make it happen.” - Robert L. Schwartz A person who aims at nothing is sure to hit it. We were given a brain for a reason, and this is a perfect excuse to use it.
...f our acts do not have an impact on the ultimate goal. In regard to this response, I would say that it is in our nature to do what makes us happy, whether it is true happiness through virtues or happiness from material things. Either way one is going to do whatever they can to obtain what pleasures their soul. Our acts shape and mold us whether we know it or not. Our acts and decisions shape us, which can change our goals as well. If we perform virtuous acts then our goal will be virtuous which is why all of our acts should be aimed towards that goal.
lifetime goal is to do anything to be successful in life, whether it means to
Jack Canfield's book "How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be" makes aware about how to achieves our goals and uses a specific steps to achieves it easily and effectively. Not only, he explains quotes but also, he tells some stories for successful people which they follow the principle of achieving goals. Also, says Canfield mentions that to achieve our goals we have to write our goals on paper, read your goals at least 3 times a day, create goals notebook and put your goals in front of our a permanent basis. On the other hand, it's important to understand that if we put target goals you will achieve target results. Jack Canfield’s mentions a story that supports “W. Clement Stone”, quote. When he lost their job and he thought it was the end of his life, but losing his job turned out to be the major turning point of his life. The story shows that with every problem in life there is a bright side. The quote I found by “W. Clement Stone”, which is “When life hands you a lemon, squee...
Even if we have dreams to fuel our goals and achievements, they may not always be able to grant us what we desire. We may only end up with just taking a few steps further but always end up being pushed even farther than where we started. Willy Loman was a hard worker who tries his best to strive in order to reach his dream; however everything did not go the way he wished it to be. “Oh, I’ll knock ‘em dead next week. I’ll go to Hartford. I’m very well liked in Hartford. You know, the trouble is, Linda, people don’t seem to take to me”, (I.). Willy was oblivious to want was in front of him, his failure; he was not able to accept defeat causing him to be blind to the truth, “I don’t know the reason for it, but they just pass me by. I’m not noticed”, (I.). The concept of failure and the not wanting to accept in which what is in front of us, is something anyone can relate to. It is a fact that human beings have a nature to aim for something they want and achieve it with high success, and failure is not an option. After all everyone, their dreams, their goals, and achievements just to end up as a failure of a dream. We always want to do our very best, however there are going to be people who will not accept what is in front of there, just like Willy
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
Regardless of the fact that we have different goals and we have different definitions of success, there are common principles which if we employ, can lead us all to success.
