Introduction
It requires a lot of reflection and is so complex that even Psychologists have studied it for years without completely understanding what the complexity entails; it is called personality. Personality is so important in our relations with others because it is our lifeline or link between communication and people. Usually when we meet someone, we end up describing him or her in type categories such as: tall, short, bright, witty, amiable, or pretty. While these general descriptions are accurate, they are just a small part of what may or may not represent a person. What actually represents someone is their personality but because human beings are so complex, we use adjectives as a partial description in a simplistic but futile attempt to understand them.
Personality interactions with others.
There are many different types of personalities and it is important to understand what type you have as well as the people that you are around the most. Most people have heard the expression, “know your audience,” and it simply means that you must know who and how you are i...
Many psychologists throughout many years present theoretical approaches in an attempt to understand personality. Hans Eysenck’s approach of personality differed from that of Sigmund Freud and his psychoanalytical theory of personality. Eysenck’s theory of personality relies on the scientific basis of biology in explaining human personality. Although Freud’s theories are intriguing to an open mind, Eysenck’s approach made measurable scientific sense. He relied on the use of trait and factor analysis, which is a statistical method. Freud relied on faith and his personal opinions based on observational research to reach the assumptions that set forth his theories (Feist & Feist, 2009). Eysenck and Freud did not agree on anything about understanding how and why the mind operates the way, it does.
The field of psychology is a discipline, originated from many branches of science. It has applications from within a complete scope of avenues, from psychotherapy to professional decision-making. The flexibility and versatility of this field reflects its importance and demands in-depth analysis. Psychology was a division of philosophy until it developed independent scientific disciplines. The history of psychology was a scholarly study of the mind and behavior that dates back to the beginning of civilization. There are important details from previous theory psychologist, research have contributed to behaviorism approaches and have contributed towards specific current behavioral practices. Contemporary behavior therapy began to emerge into distinct practical and core learning theories concerning the needs and knowledge engaging cultural and professional differences.
What is personality and why do we study it? For more than 100 years psychologists have been trying to define exactly what personality is and is not. According to our text, personality is defined as “consistent behavior patterns and intrapersonal processes originating within the individual” (Burger, J., 2005, p. 4) The seven major approaches to personality are Freudian psychoanalytic, Neo-Freudian psychoanalytic, trait, biological, humanistic, behavioral/social learning, and cognitive. No one approach has been able to determine exactly how personality is formed, but each of these approaches has helped add to a higher learning of possibly how personality is formed. In
My paper is based on an article from the text’s web site (chapter 9) entitled “Lack of sleep ages body’s systems.” The basic claim of the article is that sleep deprivation has various harmful effects on the body. The reported effects include decreased ability to metabolize glucose (similar to what occurs in diabetes) and increased levels of cortisol (a stress hormone involved in memory and regulation of blood sugar levels). The article also briefly alludes (in the quote at the bottom of page 1) to unspecified changes in brain and immune functioning with sleep deprivation.
One explanation was that we form impressions using some kind of gestalt or whole picture, with each piece of information influencing the others. An intelligent & warm person generates a positive impression an intelligent & cold person generates a negative impression. Asch’s experiments on formations of personality impression suggested that when adjectives describing a person are presented in sequence, the first adjectives have more impact than the later ones.
I believe our personalities make up who we are and how others perceive us at times. Personalities are our own unique qualities, that we possess as individuals. In writing this short paper, I have found that psychologists use assessments to define an individual’s personality to determine their qualities and what makes them different from other individuals. Through the Big Five Personality test, I found it difficult to define and understand an individual personality
Psychology is the investigation of the mind and how it processes and directs our thoughts, actions and conceptions. However, in 1879 Wilhelm Wundt opened the first psychology laboratory at the University of Leipzig in Germany. Nevertheless, the origins of psychology go all the way back thousands of years starting with the early Greeks. This foundation is closely connected to biology and philosophy; and especially the subfields of physiology which is the study of the roles of living things and epistemology, which is the study of comprehension and how we understand what we have learned. The connection to physiology and epistemology is often viewed as psychology, which is the hybrid offspring of those two fields of investigation.
Everyone wants to be on their best when they are in front of an audience, but is it really your true personality at that point? I do not think
The president of the United States is mostly known as one of the most important positions in the entire country. The president is the leader of the nation, the person that people look up to and depend on to take care of the nations needs, and also the person who gets blamed when situations turn for the worse. Each of the presidents have their own character and personality. Some say that the presidents performance in office is shaped by their personality. James David Barber, a political scientist and author of The Presidential Character, is one of these people and broke down personality into three major parts; character, style, and worldview.
There are four major theories of personality, which have different types of advantages but also disadvantages. These are personality theories are known as the Psychodynamic, trait or five-factor model, humanistic, and social cognitive. First the Psychodynamic theory, this theory is known for both the ideas of Erickson and Freud. Erikson thought that personality underwent through several stages and depending on which stage you were at, there were different types of conflicts or problems.
In every different environment, we project a modified aspect of our personality to display preferred behaviors that are appropriate for that setting we encounter. As I see myself, others may have a different perspective, such is the case with all people. Over the years my microsystem has diminished from a large system to one that has been tailored to consist of individuals that are like minded. This enables me to express my personality unfiltered without being judged. Within my micro system that consists of my immediate family the my most intimate self is more revealing of true identity.
Individuals have different behaviors depending on how they feel, think, want, or what they do because these things change from moment to moment. This paper will be writing about personality and how this can be influence by different factors. The writer will explain how personality can be in a child learning environment and influential adults in life and how these influences shape those behaviors. These changes show how the personality is and help to recognize, and understand the individual.
Our personalities are what distinguish us from each other beyond our appearance; without them, we would all behave and react in the same way. Personality is the reason we are outgoing or introverted, persistent or blaze, and anxious or calm. We each have different levels of these competing characteristics that make us unique. But why are personalities so varied? Personality is determined by an array of factors from genetic and biological to the personal experiences and decisions we have faced from the day we are born. The complexity of our personalities cannot be simply explained, and for this reason there exists many different theories of how it’s developed and personality is still deeply under study. I went into this subject with an open-mind
The concept of personality has numerous definitions (Fatahi, Moradi, & Kashani-Vahid, 2016). Schultz and Schultz (2009), define personality in its broad sense as the manner of an individual’s behaviour in different situations. This essay explores the nature of personality, with the intention of highlighting its flexibility. The results of numerous empirical research studies are examined in order to investigate if, and how personality changes over time. It will be argued that an individual’s personality has the ability to change throughout their life.
To each their own…..right? Is this really the case when it comes to personality? We all have our own unique personalities that make us who we are and influence our daily lives, which might cause us to pose the question, “How much control do we have over these traits?” Furthermore, one might ask, “Is there a way we can control these characteristics or are they given to us from birth?” In order to recognize my own distinct personality traits which have contributed to the person I am today, let us take a look at my “psycho-auotbiography.”
