Throughout my childhood, I had witnessed my parents and uncle helping people solve and cope with problems faced in their everyday lives. Some people suffered from behavior problems, diagnosed with mental behavior and emotional issues. Today, many families need support and assistance for people with disabilities. Over the years, I had observed how my parents and uncle would connect others with resources and referrals to services for people needing help and assistance. Afterwards, many people would return to my office with a visit or follow-up call showing gratitude and thanks for coping, helping and guiding them during their difficult situations and emotional challenges. As I observed my family members making a difference in our community with helping others, this had a major impact and influence me Harris was encouraged to choose a helping profession that had a positive impact on people’s lives. In the past, he reflected how people would always approach him about their problems and the problem solving skills that he possessed. In a personal reflection, Dr. Harris recalled, many stated that he possessed skills and qualities with compassion, a knack for problem solving, strong listening and verbal communication skills. Jokingly, he said to himself, “Why not consider getting paid for counseling people”! Later, he pondering and decided to consider pursuing graduate studies in counseling classes. His professor encouraged him to really greatly consider actually enrolling and pursuing graduate studies in counseling. She saw something in him. His professor really encouraged my uncle by saying, “You need to do this” (meaning pursing graduate studies in social work/ counseling). After realizing and making a conscious decision, he said to himself, “Okay, let’s do this, meaning returning to school for counseling. His professor supported him with this decision and agreed to write a letter of support in his behalf for graduate
